So, this is pretty gross, but to each her own (placenta smoothie). ::shudders:: After extensive research, pregnant Jordan Thiering decided she wanted to take the afterbirth (placenta) and whip it up in a smoothie. When she talked to her OBGYN, she was told to check with the delivering hospital. The hospital told her she would need a court order. “I grew my baby, I grew my placenta,” Thiering said. “There should be no one that can tell me what I can or can’t do with it.”

Heaven forbid one of these special snow flakes feels excluded for not working as hard as some of their classmates. Plano Senior High School, located north of Dallas, has decided National Honor Society students will not be able to wear the iconic white satin stoles to their upcoming graduation. Local news reported:
National Honor Society (NHS) stoles are frequent sight at high school graduation ceremonies around the country, but one Plano Senior High School student is frustrated that he won't be allowed to wear one when he puts on his cap and gown next month. According to school practices, students are not allowed to wear NHS regalia.

As a result of her Twitter war with Donald Trump, Elizabeth Warren's false claim to be Cherokee has been back in the news. For a comprehensive account of how Warren used the false claim for employment purposes, then tried to cover it up through misleading claims of family lore and refusal to release records, see Elizabeth Warren Native American / Cherokee Controversy. Warren is called out as being even worse than Donald Trump by Terese Mailhot, a Canadian First Peoples [what in the U.S. we call Native American] writer at Indian Country Today, Trump and Warren Are Racists, and I Won't Defend Either:

Twitter has lost one of the funniest accounts in a long time due to possible pressure from the thin-skinned officials in Russia. The social media platform suspended five accounts that parodied Russian officials, including the popular @DarthPutinKGB, who regularly mocked Russian President Vladimir Putin. They have reinstated a few, but the Putin one remains suspended. Good news: The famous @DarthPutinKGB has returned, but showed much displeasure: Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 11.26.24 AM Unfortunately, this is only one of many cases over the past four years that have shown the Kremlin will unleash its power across the world to silence its critics.

Bernie Sanders made some waves recently by putting two well-known anti-Israel polemicists on the Democratic Party platform committee, Cornel West and James Zogby. It looks like a platform fight over Israel is in the offing, A Split Over Israel Threatens the Democrats’ Hopes for Unity:
A bitter divide over the Middle East could threaten Democratic Party unity as representatives of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont vowed to upend what they see as the party’s lopsided support of Israel. Two of the senator’s appointees to the party’s platform drafting committee, Cornel West and James Zogby, on Wednesday denounced Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and said they believed that rank-and-file Democrats no longer hewed to the party’s staunch support of the Israeli government. They said they would try to get their views incorporated into the platform, the party’s statement of core beliefs, at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in July....

Legal Insurrection readers will recall that security was tight at the Donald Trump rally I attended, and was full deployed after the event to avoid a another Albuquerque-style riot from occurring. Most San Diegans were thrilled that our police department was diligent about implementing effective security measures. However, progressive activists were exceedingly unhappy at the level of containment our police force achieved. A group of their "leaders" held a press conference in Barrio Logan, the staging area of anti-Trump marchers that day, to complain about....martial law!

Last fall a large group of Dartmouth students who are also Black Lives Matter activists, marched into the school's Baker-Berry Library and caused a disruption. This was no small affair. Campus Reform reported that students in the library who were simply trying to study alleged physical and verbal assaults such as “F*** you, you filthy white f***s!” An investigation was launched, and the Alumni Relations office has now concluded that no punishment is warranted.

Faculty associations have been a focus of anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) activity. Unlike at universities, where there are counter-balancing constituencies, such associations can be hijacked by relatively small percentages of the membership, who take over committees and national councils. This allows the agenda to turn away fein the academic purposes of the organization, and instead, to turn the organizations into anti-Israel activist platforms. We have seen that play out at the American Studies Association and some smaller associations. The American Anthropological Association just finished membership voting on a BDS resolution, but the results have not been announced. The faculty association warfare on Israel is getting very personal:
