Mia B. Love won a historic nomination at the Utah Republican convention on Saturday to run for Congress in the newly-created 4th Congressional District.

Love was the first black woman elected mayor in Utah’s history, is the first black woman nominated for Congress in Utah, and if elected to Congress, would be the first black Republican congresswoman. ...

Just minutes ago, Mia B. Love won the Utah-04 nomination at the Utah Republican Convention.  Love received 70.5% of the vote on the second ballot, defeating Carl Wimmer who received 29.5.

The result is a shock except to those of us in the blogosphere who have been following Love.

UPDATE (9:40  pm): Voting finally starts, after delay caused by bickering in the voting for another district.

UPDATE (8:15  pm): Love and Wimmer advance to round 2.  Love 53%, Wimmer 30% on first ballot.
