Germany has offered Joe Biden a "Marshall Plan for democracy" in the wake of the U.S. Capitol riot. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Friday called on the incoming Democratic administration to join the European Union in backing a "wide-reaching pro-democracy initiative" to counter the "enemies of liberal democracy."

European leaders and the mainstream media on the other side of the Atlantic came out in unison to condemn the violence in the Capitol Hill. The leaders of the three leading European powers, the United Kingdom, Germany and France, found the harshest words to criticize pro-Trump protesters responsible for the mayhem.

The German government has estimated the financial cost of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic at around €1.3 trillion, or $1.6 trillion, for the year 2020, the country's media report. "Across Europe, the number of infections since the start of the pandemic is now above 8.2 million and more than 258,000 people have died from COVID-19," French TV network EuroNews confirmed on Saturday.

Iran and other rogue states are covertly working to acquire German technology for making nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons, Germany's prominent intelligence agency confirmed on Friday. Tehran was using front companies to deceive German firms into selling dual-use equipment and sanctioned WMD technology, the intelligence service of Germany's Hesse state disclosed in its annual report.

Amid growing concern over antisemitic violence on German streets and anti-Israel activism on the country's campuses, the U.S.-based policy research institute Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) has published a detailed report looking at the activities of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement in Germany.
