California Governor Gavin Newsom, who faces a recall election soon, plans to use a budgetary "surplus" to send billions of dollars back to California taxpayers and "undocumented" residents.
If approved, the state would give $600 checks to workers who earn up to $75,000 annually, with $500 bonuses for tax filers with dependents and undocumented families.

California state Sen. Josh Newman (D) dropped his bill that would reveal the names on recall petitions:
State Sen. Josh Newman, a Democrat, said Tuesday he’s pulling the bill due to pressure from supporters of a likely recall election against Gov. Gavin Newsom, also a Democrat. Newman’s bill would not have applied to the anti-Newsom effort, but that movement’s supporters vehemently opposed it, saying it would violate citizen privacy and intimidate voters.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom delivered his State of the State in an empty Dodger Stadium instead of the California legislative chamber in Sacramento. It may have been a very apt venue, as the speech was empty of both hope and solid plans for more sensible pandemic policies. The address was, however, dark, full of terrors, and rich in social justice blather.
