Don’t let Operation Demoralize win the midterms, vote

It’s hard not to feel that in the run up to every national election the mainstream media and ‘progressive’ cultural infrastructure gaslight us into believing Democrats are destined to win.

Gaslighting is a term I never used to use much before, but it fits;

Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, making them question their own memory, perception, and sanity. Using persistent denial, misdirection, contradiction, and lying, it attempts to destabilize the victim and delegitimize the victim’s belief.

Instead of gaslighting, I’ve used the phrase “Operation Demoralize” to describe the mind games played to keep us home. Here is what I wrote in 2012, Operation Demoralize is working just as planned:

It’s November 7.  Barack Obama has won.  The Republican presidential strategy has failed.  The media is jubilant.  The right-blogosphere is going through a serious introspection.  The left-blogosphere is dancing on our graves and shoving it down our throats.  Four years of fighting the Obama agenda was for nothing.Oh, I’m sorry.  Let me correct that.  It’s September 9, not November 7.  The rest of the paragraph above can remain as originally written.Operation Demoralize is working just as planned.

At 7 p.m. on November 7, 2016, election eve, I wrote again about the tactic, Operation Demoralize Is in Full Swing:

This race is too close to call.A shift in any state could change the outcome. The Real Clear Politics No-Toss Ups map (Featured Image) has Hillary winning by a few electoral points.She could win by a few, lose by a few, or win by a lot. It’s that volatile.Overall, she’s up about 3% in national polls. You can’t ignore that. I’d rather be up 3 than down 3 any day….But to to read the headlines, it’s over. Trump is done. Turn out the lights, write the obituaries, the election is history.This is the same tactic always used….I think Hillary is the favorite going into Election Day because the electoral map favors Democrats. But don’t think that the premature celebrations are honest or legitimate – they are just narratives intended to demoralize Trump voters.

At 7 a.m., the morning of Election Day 2016, I had a tongue in cheek post, Election Day 2016 Morning – Awaiting Hillary Clinton’s Historic Victory,, I went through the seemingly definitive media pronouncements that Hillary would win, including this video:

And these forecasts from Nate Silver and the NY Times, respectively:

I cautioned at the end of the post:

But the day was young. And he who laughs last, laughs best.

I don’t think I actually expected to laugh last, but oh boy:

The prognosticators about the 2018 midterms are in almost precisely the same place — almost to the percentage point — as to the House that they were the day before the 2016 election as to the presidential election.

If you needed a reminder, this is what they think of you:

I don’t know what the result will be in the midterms tomorrow.

But please, get out and vote. Get your friends and relatives to vote. Don’t be gaslighted. Don’t let Operation Demoralize win.
