There was a time that student government resolutions divesting from Israel were all the rage, and the center of the anti-Israel movement on campuses. We covered many such battles, most of which were defeated, though some passed. They always were purely symbolic acts, since student governments have zero power to divest university investments, and universities regularly reject such student resolutions.

Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee conducted confirmation hearings for several judicial appointees including Texas Supreme Court Justice Don Willett. Willett has been nominated for a spot on the fifth circuit. An avid Twitter user, Willett is a bright, humorous spot on the social media platform. Prior to the hearing, many a politic-watcher wondered if Willett's Twitter feed would be questioned. And it was.

Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock used a bump stock attachment when he murdered 58 people. Following the massacre, lawmakers of all political stripes, gun control groups, and even gun rights groups like the NRA agreed the bump stock, which enables rapid fire shooting on some semi-automatic rifles, was not fit for public use. “Fully automatic weapons have been outlawed for many, many years. This seems to be a way of going around that, so obviously we need to look how we can tighten up the compliance with this law so that fully automatic weapons are banned," said Speaker Ryan at the time.

A non-coup coup has apparently happened in the southern African country of Zimbabwe overnight. I noticed last night on Twitter that the military started to take control in the capital city of Harare, but denied it was a coup because they planned to target criminals around President Robert Mugabe. This is HUGE. Mugabe has served as president/dictator since 1980 when the country achieved independence from Britain. The military claims it's not a coup, but have placed Mugabe under house arrest

Don't think for a second that the attack on Sean Hannity's advertiser's led by Media Matters has anything to do with Hannity's coverage of or interview with Roy Moore. The Moore coverage is just a pretext to carry out a plan to attack conservative media, Fox News and Hannity that has been a Media Matters project for many years, led by Angelo Carusone. The plan was hatched years ago, as we wrote about in 2011, Media Matters Plans “Guerrilla Warfare and Sabotage” on Fox News And Conservative Websites.

Papa John's, the pizza restaurant chain headquartered in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, has been on a mostly bad publicity roller coaster for several weeks. The company's founder and CEO John Schnatter spoke out against the national anthem protests at NFL games, claiming they were hurting the company's bottom line.

One of the key reasons President Trump won last November was his stance on illegal immigration.  Between the wall and his promise to provide relief to ICE agents whose hands were tied by the Obama administration, the president won a first: an endorsement for a candidate in a presidential election from the ICE agents' union. ICE, like (too) many executive agencies, has been polluted by Obama appointees and loyalists, so the ICE agents in the field are not getting the support they need to meet the president's illegal immigration goals.  Indeed, ICE managers are reportedly making questionable calls like ordering ICE agents not to wear bullet-proof vests because doing so "might offend" illegal aliens. A contingent of ICE agents frustrated by their management have launched the website JIC Report in the hopes of getting the Commander in Chief's attention and letting him know that they are being hobbled by Obama holdovers who flout the president's illegal immigration agenda at every turn.

Monday, Donald Trump Jr. published a series of tweets which included screen shots of Twitter private messages between himself and Wikileaks. According to a report in The Atlantic, the messages, along with thousands of documents were turned over by Trump Jr.'s lawyers to the congressional committee investigating Russia's meddling in the 2016 election.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced that the Senate's tax bill will have language to repeal the individual mandate in Obamacare. From The Hill:
“We’re optimistic that inserting the individual mandate repeal would be helpful and that’s obviously the view of the Senate Finance Committee Republicans as well,” McConnell said.
