Shades of Alice in Wonderland's Queen: "sentence first — verdict afterwards." On Joy Reid's MSNBC show this morning, Dem Rep. Maxine Waters doubled down on her earlier statement that "my greatest desire is to lead [President Trump] right into impeachment." Asked by Reid on what grounds she would impeach the president, Waters offered no evidence but said "I believe" there's a connection between Ukraine, Trump, and Russia, and "I think" Trump "colluded" with Putin during the election.

South Korean officials indicate that North Korea just test-fired a ballistic missile, the first such test by the rogue nation since Donald Trump was inaugurated.
"The South Korean government and the international community are working together to take punitive actions appropriate for this launch," acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn said. Trump, when asked by reporters about the missile launch, declined to comment. A White House spokesman said Trump was briefed on the launch.

Ben Shapiro recently visited the campus of Ferris State University in Michigan and had a fascinating exchange with a student about transgenderism. Shapiro's position is that calling yourself another gender doesn't make it true. He also posits that his main problem with this issue is proponents trying to force him to deny reality and play along. During recent decades, the left's Gramscian march has allowed it to conquer several institutions: education, media, religion, and entertainment. But at the same time, it has become clearer lately that (except for the charismatic Obama) the left has been losing at the ballot box, both on the national and state level. At the moment, the majority of state legislatures and governors are in GOP hands. Both houses of Congress are as well, and of course the presidency.

A group of academics has published an article in the socialist publication Jacobin in which they advocate for a "federal job guarantee."  This proposal entails a guaranteed minimal income of $23,000 per year and "rising to a mean of $32,500" to people who do not have jobs.  This money would come, of course, from tax payers who do have jobs, most of whom can ill-afford the tax burden this "spread the wealth" scheme entails. This idea has been batted around by socialists (and communists) for decades and is again rearing its ugly head.

Colorado and Washington, two states that sell marijuana legally, enjoyed hefty sales on the drug in 2016. Colorado sold more than $1.3 billion worth of marijuana and marijuana products while Washington saw $972 million during its 2016 fiscal year. The legal sales meant more tax revenue for the states, which brought in $200 million for Colorado.

Protesters at President Trump's inauguration became violent, setting fires, vandalizing property, and antagonizing—even injuring—law enforcement officers.  The indictments of 146 additional rioters were handed down this week. The total of those indicted on felony rioting charges is now 209.  A total of 230 persons were arrested in conjunction with the rioting, and twelve of those cases have been dismissed.

President Trump's "shock and awe" approach continues with a massive crackdown on illegal aliens in Southern California.
Federal immigration officials say 160 people were arrested across the Southland over the past week during a crackdown targeting “criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants and immigration fugitives.” The arrests took place in six counties during what U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials described as a “five-day targeted enforcement operation” that began Monday and wrapped up around noon Friday.

I recently blogged that a whistleblower revealed startling evidence that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency rushed to release a widely-cited paper that exaggerated global warming and was timed to influence the Paris Agreement on climate change. Despite the clear evidence of science fraud, big government bureaucrats are still promoting climate change policy. In fact, a group of long-time Republicans who have held high-level government positions are now promoting a "carbon tax" to address changes in global weather patterns.
