Like millions of Catholics this past Wednesday, I attended Mass and began the season of Lent by having an ash cross marked on my forehead. One student who also observed Ash Wednesday and went to school with an ash cross was forced to wash it off by a teacher, despite pleas from the boy that it was a symbol of his faith.

We were the first website to pick up on the star potential of Ludmya “Mia” B. Love. I remember calling her on her cell phone in early January 2012, before she received any national attention and before anyone thought she had a chance of winning the Republican nomination in Utah's 4th congressional district.

Earlier this year, Kemberlee blogged about former Massachusetts governor and former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney announcing his Senate run in Utah.  Romney is running to fill the Utah Senate seat being vacated by Senator Orrin Hatch (R). He failed to secure the Republican nomination yesterday and will now run in Utah's June primary against Utah state representative Mike Kennedy.

This made its way into my feed and I selfishly decided I would not suffer in solitude, thus this post. Wednesday morning, Utah's House of Representatives tweeted a music video explaining how a bill becomes law. The bastard child of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song and School House Rock's, "I'm just a bill", "Fresh Prints of Bill Here" is painfully cringe-worthy, but cute and endearing in the way your Grandma misuses a completely random pop culture reference. If you're not triggered by memories of your 16-year-old self mortified or struck with giggle fits watching your parents try their hand at the whole "being cool" thing, then I'm not sure you can fully appreciate the awkwardness that lies ahead.

The Republican's longest-serving senator will retire at the end of his term this year. Sen. Hatch is 83-years-old and serving his seventh Senate term. Utah Senator Orrin Hatch released a video statement Tuesday announcing his plans to retire into public life.

Former Massachusetts governor and twice failed GOP candidate for president Mitt Romney is reportedly quite seriously contemplating a Senate run in Utah.  While the senior senator from Utah Orrin Hatch (R) has not announced any plans to retire, it appears that the Utah GOP is ready for Romney. Romney is no stranger to Senate campaigns; he ran against Ted Kennedy (D-MA) in 1994 and lost.  Utah, however, may be just the ticket for Romney who has high approval numbers there and is a favorite among the Utah GOP.

President Trump's eraser and Twitter feed seem to be more effective that Obama's pen and phone. In the last days of his insipid administration, the former president created the Bears Ears National Monument in Utah with a stroke of his pen, claiming thousands of square acres of land for the federal government. Now, President Trump indicates that he is going to trim back the size of the land grab.
President Trump on Friday told Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah that he will shrink the size of Bears Ears National Monument, a 1.35 million-acre piece of land former President Obama designated as a national monument just before leaving office.

The Cook Political Report (CPR), a non-partisan group that analyzes elections, has changed the ratings in 12 districts across the country for the House 2018 elections as Democrats gain strength. It's important to note that the ratings have not gone directly to Democrat, but it shows that these districts have become vulnerable. Only one went from solid Democrat to likely Democrat, a plus for the Republicans.
