Apparently, the criminal element in Chicago doesn't take time off at Christmas. An alarming number of shootings and connected fatalities took place in the city this weekend. ABC News reports:
Bloody Year in Chicago Continues with 12 Killings Over Christmas Weekend Two men gunned down on a porch in Chicago on Christmas Day were among 12 people slain in the city, where an epidemic of killings continued during the holiday weekend.

We featured this video last year and liked it so much, we’re doing it again. Christmas flash mobs have become very popular over the last few years but so far none have matched the outstanding effort put forth by the Opera Company of Philadelphia in 2010. The Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah is a staple of Christmas music for good reason but when singers from multiple groups joined to create this moment on video, history was made.

Back in November, we told you the story of Professor Nancy Shurtz of the University of Oregon, who wore blackface at an off-campus campus Halloween party. She claimed she was emulating a black author she respected but it still set off a firestorm. Many of her colleagues signed a letter asking her to resign. Scott Jaschik of Inside Higher Ed has an update to the story. The investigation isn't over yet but the school has made one determination. Here are some highlights:
