Michelle Obama Just Says No To 2024 Run

Michelle seems content to live the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

Michelle, we hardly knew ya.

Okay, maybe we knew ya too much.

Long ago and far away, we anxiously expected Michelle to ride in on a donkey in 2020.

She teased, but never delivered.

Part of why we pushed so hard for Michelle to run was the spectacle of it all, particlarly versus Trump.

But surely in 2024, with Joey Babbles sinking in the polling? Democrats: Save Us Michelle! (May 23, 2023):

Joe Biden’s approval ratings are in the sewer, and a majority of Democrats want someone else to be the nominee in 2024. A supermajority of Americans don’t want another rematch of Biden v. Trump.

Enter one Michelle Obama.

Or at least the thought of Michelle Obama….

We are now in Barack Obama’s third term, with the Team Obama running Biden doing damage beyond their wildest dreams.

But to complete the fundamental transformation of the nation laid out by Barack Obama, a fourth term is needed. And it’s far from clear that Biden is the guy to do it, or Kamala Harris.

Alas, Michelle seems content to live the lifestyle of the rich and famous, and will not be running in 2024, NBC reports:

Former President Barack Obama has said he’s “all in” for President Joe Biden’s re-election effort. But a question nagging at many Democrats is what role his popular spouse might play.

Democrats nervously looking ahead to November say they want to see Michelle Obama playing a bigger role in the campaign. Some even whisper about the possibility that she might replace a politically hobbled incumbent on the 2024 ticket this summer — making her a fantasy candidate for members of both parties, albeit for different reasons….

“As former First Lady Michelle Obama has expressed several times over the years, she will not be running for president,” said Crystal Carson, director of communications for her office. “Mrs. Obama supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ re-election campaign.”

She will “not be running.” I’m still not so sure, Democrats may demand it at the convention if Joey Babbles seems poised to lose.

I hope this is true.

On the one hand, I’m pleased that the media won’t have another Obama to worship for however long the campaign runs.

On the other hand, watching President Trump debate her into a quivering heap of self-pity would be hilarious!

For the first time in my adult life I am proud to hear you say that about my country.

TargaGTS in reply to irv. | March 5, 2024 at 9:35 pm

I’m hugely skeptical we’re going to see any presidential debates this year and I think this is probably true no matter who their nominee is.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to irv. | March 5, 2024 at 10:34 pm

    That would be racist.

    / someone had to…

Biden would not give up without a fight. Jill, that is. He is not about to step aside. In any other age, he would be looking at a 50 state debacle. But the system is so rigged that the outcome is in doubt. Surreal.

It will be interesting to watch Biden get under Trump’s skin. His cruelty will be front and center. Another excellent Biden decision. Bring on the red lights.

If not Obama, then who?

Michael cannot dance with the skeletons in his closet, and his handlers know it.
Kamala is term 4.

Like Prof. Jacobson, I’m not so sure. This is how the DNC describes a ‘pledged delegate;: “Delegates elected to the national convention pledged to a presidential candidate shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them.”

IANAL, but ‘shall in all good conscience’ doesn’t mean ‘shall’ or ‘must’ or ‘are bound to’ (the GOP actually uses the word ‘bound’ when describing how pledged delegates MUST vote on the 1st ballot). I still don’t think it’s a coincidence that the DNC is having their convention in Michelle Obama’s home town, the first time they’ve held a convention in a non-competitive state since 2004 in Boston…John Kerry’s hometown.

Michelle Obama ain’t running. She wants nothing to do with the rough and tumble, sharp elbows of politics. As it is she enjoys a very opulent lifestyle and basks in the near unanimous praise and adoration of the d/prog. She is always on the list of ‘hey how about X as a potential candidate’. Just as Colin Powell she is happier to be liked than risk being unlocked as a candidate.

As soon as she makes a move towards replacing Biden all that changes. She moves from semi protected status as Spouse of a politician to being the politician and becomes fair game. She doesn’t want the scrutiny or the headache IMO.

PrincetonAl in reply to CommoChief. | March 5, 2024 at 9:54 pm

    This seems right to me.

She is fine with surrogates deploying rough and tumble against others, but doesn’t want to deal with it herself or interrupt her posh lifestyle for actual work.

however, she would have no problem lying about not running and then “reluctantly” being begged to run to save the day. I just don’t see her doing it if victory wasn’t assured – she is not going to risk losing – and that’s not the case if it involves a brokered (broken) convention. It could be very hard for her.

But I do have to think Barry and Michelle are thinking hard how to beat Trump behind the scenes. So we haven’t exactly seen or heard anywhere near the last of them in this campaign.

    Anything is possible.

BONUS QUESTION – Has Michelle Obama said a word publicly about the kidnapped Jewish girls being held in Gaza, like she did for the kidnapped Nigerian girls?

Answer – No. because 1) they are Jews, and 2) Using Joey Babbles’ terminology – “You ain’t black.”

I would trust anything an øbama says about as much as l would trust the alligator who lives in the pond behind my house.

BierceAmbrose | March 5, 2024 at 9:48 pm

Joey Babbles

That’s hilarious. I think I’m gonna add that to the rotation.

thad_the_man | March 5, 2024 at 10:23 pm

yeah that there is a rumor that Biden drops out and Nikki Haley becomes the dem nominee.

Let’s see how much time is spend attending the DNC Convention in Chicago before any conclusions are made.

Sure Big Mike will not run.

Called it months ago.

I will believe it Nov 6 and she is not the nomination

Milhouse in reply to Skip. | March 6, 2024 at 5:34 am

If Biden runs and wins in November, they can still substitute someone else until the electoral college votes in mid-December.

TargaGTS in reply to Milhouse. | March 6, 2024 at 7:35 am

The reality is it’s a lOT more complicated than what you describe. While it’s perhaps possible they substitute someone, there is no process for this detailed in the Constitution or (unbelievably) in any federal statute. Congress did have to grapple with the situation in the 1872 Election when Horace Greely died after the Election but before the Electoral College met. Luckily for the House, Greely lost the Election, so whatever happened to his Electors was ultimately inconsequential, only a footnote in the Congressional record. The House ended up counting the Electors who voted for other candidates and simply not counting the Electors who faithfully voted for Greely, which is why the 1872 Election shows 16 Electors not being counted in the final Congressional tally.

It was also an easier situation to resolve for Congress because at the time, there were few (if any) state laws then that bound Electors. My guess is what would happen in this situation now is entirely dependent on which party controls the House, both at the time of the death/incapacitation and at the time to certify the Electoral College. If an opposition party is in control, they would likely prefer not to certify any votes for alternative candidates, preferring to force the VP-Elect to choose a VP using the 25th Amendment after Inauguration Day. And honestly, that is probably the more democratic way to resolve the situation.

Milhouse in reply to TargaGTS. | March 11, 2024 at 1:53 am

No, TargaGTS. It’s not complicated at all. Neither the constitution nor state laws have anything to do with it. Both parties have rules for replacing a presidential candidate who can’t serve. At any time before the Electoral College meets, the DNC or RNC can replace their candidate. The only issue arises if the candidate dies after the electors have voted.

Also, if no president is elected by Jan-20 the VP-elect does not become president. He remains VP, and merely acts as president until a president is elected. So the 25th amendment does not come into play and he cannot choose a VP.

CommoChief in reply to Milhouse. | March 6, 2024 at 9:45 am

In an academic/theoretical sense sure. In a practical sense? Pretty sure a great many people would find it unsettling and more than a few would find it intolerable.

Does this open the door for Whoopi Goldberg?

BONUS QUESTION – Has Michelle Obama said a word publicly about the kidnapped Jewish girls being held in Gaza, like she did for the kidnapped Nigerian girls?

“I’m like all Americans watching the images coming out of the region,” the former first lady said Sunday during an appearance at New York City’s 92nd Street Y. “I can say that, as a mother, I cannot wrap my arms around how people must be feeling. I can’t get the images of those young people who were gunned down attending a music festival because those kids were the age of my daughters.” Her husband, Barack Obama, prayed for “the safe return of those who’ve been held hostage.”

Never mind Joe Biden’s melted brain; even Trump should not do a debate unless we get someone other than the usual DNC shills as moderators.

Good luck trying to get someone both would agree to, but I might suggest Joe Rogan.

Or me. Let them go at it one-on-one and I will control the microphones and watch the clock.

Perhaps with a list of 3 pointed questions each to be inserted when one or both start to wander away from anything of substance.

Don’t get too confident–we’re overlooking two important points:

1. She didn’t prepare this–her staff did.
2. It says that she’s not running. It doesn’t say that she wouldn’t accept the nomination at the convention. After all, Bill Clinton taught us the importance of knowing what the meaning of “is” is.

“No Obama will be involved in the 2024 election, and whatever you do, don’t look behind the curtain.”

GWB in reply to FinbarOS. | March 6, 2024 at 9:42 am

Puhlease. 0bama wasn’t even running things when he was President, much less now.
    This isn’t a third 0bama term. It’s a third people-who-ran-0bama term.

barbiegirl ny | March 6, 2024 at 9:32 am

Riiiiiiiight. Don’t be surprised if there’s a last minute switcheroo. All they have to do is see how badly Biden is doing, and they’ll throw Michelle in at the last minute for a fourth Obama term. Then she’ll hand the presidency over to her vice president–assuming she really didn’t want the job. Put nothing past these criminal bastards.

Stop trying to make “fetch” Big Mike happen!

Seriously, there are some persistent people trying to believe that Michelle 0bama will be their great black feminist savior (or bete noir). She doesn’t want it, has never wanted it, and will never want it. She’s lazy* and certainly doesn’t want the hard work of a Presidency with its low pay. She would rather sit on her backside and let the money and adulation roll in. She is much more about being a celebrity than about being someone with power.

(* She couldn’t even handle a regular podcast.)
