‘Dream Defenders’ Protesters Furious That DeSantis Staffer Ate Cake During Their ‘Occupation’ Of Gov’s Office

‘Dream Defenders’ Protesters Furious That DeSantis Staffer Ate Cake During Their ‘Occupation’ Of Gov’s Office

Give that guy a raise: “Ron DeSantis staff eating cake while Floridians are in crisis. Typical.”

I was going to do a serious post tonight, really. There’s a lot of heavy stuff going on.

But then I saw a tweet by our old “friends” at Dream Defenders. You remember DD, don’t you? They are the activists who formed after the Trayvon Martin shooting, with the help of the Tides Foundation. Over the years they turned into a toxic stew of Israel and America haters, but mostly Israel.

We first wrote about Dream Defenders in 2015:

Anti-Israel activists have been attempting to hijack the Ferguson, Eric Garner and #BlackLivesMatter protests since early August, just after Michael Brown was killed.

I documented the infiltration and hijacking in a series of posts and an Op-Ed in The NY Post:

This is all part of a larger effort, particularly on U.S. campuses, to use “intersectional” theory to tie domestic race issues into Palestinian complaints about Israel, among other ways, through exaggeration and in some cases fabrication of alleged Israeli training of U.S. police. That way, any use of excessive force by a U.S. policeman is cause for anti-Israel activists to blame Israel and try to stoke hatred of Israel in domestic communities….

The group produced a video … of a “flash mob” it organized in Nazareth in Israel (which they referred to as being in “Palestine”):

In 2016, we did an exhaustive research post, Dream Defenders: Defending the Dream of Anti-Israel Activism:

We wrote recently how BDS is a settler-colonial ideology, in that it invades, conquers, and subjugates other movements to advance anti-Israel actvism.

There are few instances where this is more apparent than Dream Defenders, one of the key groups in the Black Lives Matter movement.

Dream Defenders was initially formed to protest ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws in Florida, in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting.

Yet, following the pattern of many organizations who organize under the ideology of ‘intersectionality‘, Dream Defenders has transformed itself from an organization fighting for a change in the criminal laws of the state of Florida, into one which is identified with the bizarre attempt to link Black Lives Matter to the Palestinian cause. The struggle to protect young black men in Florida and elsewhere in the U.S. from allegedly unlawful police violence apparently also involves ‘liberating’ Palestine, i.e. the destruction of the state of Israel, and bizarre crushes on terrorist organizations like the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine….

This post will look deeper into the evolution of Dream Defenders from a local organizing committee in Florida into a national movement inciting against Israel.

In the course of just 3 years, the movement evolved from a group of college students and activists into a national organization celebrated by traditional ‘radical chic’ celebrities such as Angela Davis, and newer ones, like Marc Lamont Hill; was invited to the White House to meet President Obama; has organized propaganda ‘delegations to Palestine’ with high visibility on social media; has endorsed the BDS movement, advocating boycotts of Israel; celebrates terrorist movements, such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine; and culminating in members of Dream Defenders authoring the highly controversial statement endorsing boycott as the official position of the Movement for Black lives, and smearing Israel as an ‘apartheid’ state that practices ‘genocide’.

Read the whole post, it goes into excrutiating detail on the role DD played in the rise of BLM.

I haven’t thought much about Dream Defenders in the following years; they hold periodic protests, but no longer are at the center of the BLM or other universes. Somehow I’m on their mailing list, and they have a habit of announcing grand protest plans that are going to change everything, and change nothing.

I got an email blast about a plan to take over Ron Desantis’ Governor’s office today.

EMERGENCY PRESS RELEASE

HAPPENING NOW: DREAM DEFENDERS OCCUPY GOVERNOR’S OFFICE AND DEMAND MEETING AND END OF RIGHT WING ATTACKS ON DEMOCRACY ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Dream Defenders lead an alliance to challenge the right wing attempt to dismantle American democracy and establish a new Confederacy.

Dream Defenders are currently occupying Ron DeSantis’s office and demand he come home to face his constituents; and to inspire other states with similar extremist governments to take action against the right wing attempts to dismantle democracy and establish a 21st century confederacy across the United States.

“Gov. DeSantis and Republican lawmakers have chosen to attack many of Florida’s most vulnerable and historically marginalized communities with policies that attack who they are, who they love and how and what they learn,” said Dwight Bullard, Sr. Political Advisor at Florida Rising who is currently sitting down in the office….

And so they did. So much drama!

But then I saw this on Twitter, and got a good laugh:

That guy deserves a raise.

He was waiting for the exterminator to finish up his office.

The states need to have the same laws that the federal government has to use against these progressive fascists. Obstructing to legislature, etc

Based.

“Let them eat cake.” — some famous dead person

“Yum!” — anonymous DeSantis staffer

Steven Brizel | May 3, 2023 at 10:10 pm

This mob should be shown the door by police

Eating cake = mockery of their self-importance

Priceless.

The left can’t stand being mocked. So our response, pour it on.

Floor it – PEDAL TO THE METAL.

Devil’s food cake?

The next attack on Desantis.

He ate Jello Pudding.

Bill Cosby was once the spokesman for Jello.

Therefore Desantis endorses roofie rapists.

De Cake Dance!

Oh my gosh, I’m actually embarrassed for them.

The Gentle Grizzly | May 4, 2023 at 3:15 am

They’d be angry if they couldn’t be furious about something.

Chicago erects a “wall”. NYC tells them to stay away. Martha Vineyard (Obama et al) “deport” them. DEI or DIEversity

Paul Compton | May 4, 2023 at 6:30 am

I totally support their DEMAND .. (for the ) .. END OF RIGHT WING ATTACKS ON DEMOCRACY . If there are such attacks I totally support ending them.

I am, however, WAAAAY more concerned about all the left wing attacks on democracy, and demand the end of them too!

Is morbid obesity a requirement for Dream Defender membership?

Amazing how fat one can get in the absence of gainful employment.

I tire of hearing Palestine spoken of as a once-legitimate nation state that Israel has been illegally occupying since 1948 or thereabouts.

So many lies…..

The idea that the office staff are lounging on yachts is hilarious.

Every Republican and his/her staff are issued yachts, mansions, and stretch limos. Word is they’re all getting private jets in 2024..

BierceAmbrose in reply to HamiltonNJ. | May 4, 2023 at 8:05 pm

Well, yeah of course they’re getting issued private jets. How else they gonna fly to those climate crisis / de-carbonization group-gropes?

While I applaud the man for eating cake in their faces, I think an ice cream cone would have been more insulting. With colored sprinkles.

They think that what they’re doing is important and people should pay attention? When this happens in the future they legislators should adjourn for the day while the “protesters” are arrested and thrown into prison.

CommoChief | May 4, 2023 at 9:43 am

‘Face his constituents’…ok take up every single ‘protesters’ ID to determine who among them has a FL ID. Then ask them why such a large number appear so…..large. We all put on a couple pounds as we age despite our best efforts but many of these folks don’t appear to be making any effort at all.

If they are visibly failing to take care of themselves why would we be inclined to allow them to set policy for anyone else? A few pounds are one thing. Obesity is quite another and demonstrates lack of self discipline, hypothyroidism aside, which I would wager isn’t the case with the majority of these folks in the photo.

Thoughts:

1) Yet, they apparently think “their problems” can only be solved by “our money”; and

2) Most of them look too fat to physically remove. Obesity continues to be the dominant health problem among the oppressed.

WTPuck in reply to Strelnikov. | May 4, 2023 at 12:00 pm

With all of the people moving to Florida, I’m sure there’s a construction crane around they could use for deadbeat removal.

BiteYourTongue | May 4, 2023 at 10:32 am

Looks like a bunch of over ripe slugs..

inspectorudy | May 4, 2023 at 11:46 am

I wonder if any of them have ever heard or read any of Heather McDonald’s stuff about the numbers of “Police” brutality towards black men? It is very small and doesn’t reflect the number of times the incident was caused by the black man resisting arrest. Even then the numbers are still very small compared to the crimes caused by the same group. Every anti-cop group ignores the basic cause of the problem and refuses to address it which is the destruction of the black family.

Obviously just more trans genocide!

ChrisPeters | May 4, 2023 at 4:12 pm

I hope the cake came from Masterpiece Cakeshop!

The DD group believes it is entitled to big-time respect. It appears like they are looking for respect in all the wrong places.

We need to find out who the staffer is and send him another cake–I’ve never seen cake put to a better use than demonstrating how insignificant the left’s tantrums are
