Disney Pulls Simpsons Episode in Hong Kong Due to Line About China’s ‘Forced Labor Camps’

In November 2021, Disney+ removed the sixth episode in The Simpsons’ 16th season because of a reference to Tiananmen Square.

Disney caved to China…again.

Disney dropped an October episode of The Simpsons from its platform in Hong Kong because of one line. From Politico:

The episode — first shown in October last year and titled “One Angry Lisa” — features a scene in which Marge Simpson takes a virtual exercise bike class with an instructor in front of a virtual background of the Great Wall of China. The instructor says: “Behold the wonders of China. Bitcoin mines, forced labor camps where children make smartphones, and romance.”

Disney+ is unavailable in China since the “law forbids foreign streaming services.”

Disney+ is available in Hong Kong. But that doesn’t matter because China has recently tightened its grip on Hong Kong.

We cannot upset Communist China, especially since China keeps Disney’s pockets stuffed with money. You all know I love capitalism and making money. But when you act all woke and progressive, I expect you to put all that above profits. Disney has no problem bashing America, as Mike blogged this morning.

The Simpsons episode is 100% correct.

In November 2021, Disney+ removed the sixth episode in The Simpsons’ 16th season because of a reference to Tiananmen Square.

The family visited China, including Tiananmen Square. The square has a moment repeating China’s talking point about the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre.

It also has a line of tanks with one of Marge’s sisters in front of them, referring to the infamous tank man.

What is the rule of thumb for formerly family friendly Disney?

1. Communist China: kiss their butt
2. United States: shove it down their throat

Fine. You also can’t buy a Region One DVD of Song of the South.

They don’t just censor for China.

One could argue that it’s a racist decision to cancel Song of the South, since James Baskett won an Academy Honorary Award for his portrayal of Uncle Remus. You can download the movie from the Internet and burn your own DVD.

The only good cartoons are those which begin with a Whoopie Goldberg (aka Caryn Johnson) disclaimer. This is why I don’t stream content. Everything gets saved as files, if not for me, for the future generations.

Disney also censored the episode “Stark Raving Dad” where a man from a mental institution talks and sings like Michael Jackson. I’m waiting for them to censor all the episodes with Apu, now that he’s been canceled.

If you’re worried that the Chicomms own The Simpson’s, I’d urge you to be more worried that the Chicomms own General Mark Miley.

Labor and environmental arbitrage in not so novel Green deals and pathogenic progress.

Disney should pack up and relocate to China. A-holes.

We should slap tarrifs on China’s streaming service, if they have one.

What does CCP-China have to do with the separate-system governed Hong Kong; can’t they free speech all they want there?

Oh, wait.

Nevermind.
