Schumer Singing Different Tune Than the Press on Democrat ‘Comeback’ Talking Point
Listening to mainstream media and Democrat narratives, one might think that President Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats are on the comeback trail after several successive months of plummeting poll numbers and the rampant Democrat infighting that spilled over into the public sphere over the last year or so ostensibly due in part to procedural and policy disagreements between Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema and Biden.
The reasons cited as evidence of the so-called “comeback” is the CNN-described “string of wins” Biden and Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) scored over the summer, including the passing – and signing – of the bogusly named “Inflation Reduction Act.” Gas prices are also inching down, and the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade is credited with a supposed “surge” in Democrat enthusiasm ahead of the fall midterm elections.
But the reality is that Democrats are still in serious trouble, and all one has to do is look at the thoughts of Independent voters to see why.

And that poll was taken before Biden’s bitterly divisive “Dark Brandon” speech earlier this month.
In a poll after the speech, nearly 63 percent of independent voters thought it went way too far, saying it represented “a dangerous escalation in rhetoric and is designed to incite conflict amongst Americans.”
Further, the needle has been moving in the GOP’s direction in a few key Senate races as well, including in the Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto vs. Adam Laxalt race in Nevada and the battle between Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican nominee Herschel Walker, the latter of who has led in three straight polls after trailing Warnock for most of the summer.
Joe Biden’s polling average also is still languishing in the low 40s. Doesn’t sounds like much of a “comeback.”
Between Biden’s disastrous “MAGA” speech, his dictatorial move on student loan forgiveness, and the FBI’s Mar-a-Lago raid, it would seem that momentum has indeed shifted back to Republicans (if it ever even really left), something Schumer reportedly acknowledged in so many words during a private dinner on Monday according to Punchbowl News sources:
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer privately told a group of Democratic senators Monday night that Speaker Nancy Pelosi is “in trouble” and Democrats are going to lose the House.These comments came during a dinner at Trattoria Alberto, an Italian restaurant on Capitol Hill frequented by lawmakers from both parties. Senators at the dinner included Chris Coons of Delaware, Mark Kelly of Arizona, Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, Tom Carper of Delaware, John Hickenlooper of Colorado, and Dick Durbin of Illinois.The comments are in stark contrast to Pelosi’s declaration in recent days that not only would Democrats keep the House but they’d add to their slim majority.[…]→ Schumer said that if the election were held today there was “a 60% chance we hold the Senate, and a 40% chance we hold the House.”
Perhaps Schumer’s seen internal numbers concerning him, which may have prompted his rant. Or maybe he saw this recent write-up from the New York Times which suggested that “polling warning signs” were “flashing again” for Democrats.
Whatever the case may be, other worrisome news for Democrats is that inflation – and rising food prices, most notably – continues to be a huge problem for average Americans, not to mention the issue of escalating interest rates and Thursday’s news that mortgage rates just went over 6 percent, which “is significantly higher than this time last year, when it was 2.86%.”
As we all know, elections can, of course, turn on a dime. But one thing is for sure: The purported Democratic “comeback” of 2022 has, at least at this stage of the game, been greatly exaggerated.
