Media bias against Republicans has always existed but has reached a new high in the age of Trump. Talking heads on cable news frequently blur the lines between news and opinion. Supposed journalists openly root against Trump and for his opponents. It has gotten so bad that even Jill Abramson, the former executive editor of the New York Times is calling out the "paper of record" over bias.

Berlin will be lobbying the United Nations to secure a permanent seat at the Security Council for the European Union, German state media said. "Over the next two years, Germany's main concern will be to try and ensure that the European Union as a whole is given a permanent seat," public broadcaster Deutsche Welle reported Tuesday. This year, Germany takes up the non-permanent seat at the Council for a two year term.

Seems like only yesterday that Kanye was taking a break from politics. But that was late October and 2019 brought with it a brave new world. In case there was any doubt about where Kanye West stands, his first tweets of the new year indicate the rapper is back on the Trump train.

The Women's March has lost celebrity followers and local chapters as more people pick up on the anti-Semitic beliefs of those at the top of the food chain. The slow drip started to hemorrhage in November when Tablet magazine exposed the hatred inside of the leaders. Now actress Rosanna Arquette threatened to boycott the march if the organization doesn't do anything about its leadership.

California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom will officially become governor on Jan. 7th. On his way out of office, our current governor is leaving in his trademark "Moonbeam" style. For openers, Jerry Brown blamed rural Californians for not wanting higher taxes to help fight climate change.
Chuck Todd, host of MSNBC’s "Meet the Press," asked about how California’s new gas tax hurts rural residents who need cars because they don’t have access to public transportation. He cited an article from CityLab, which said the gas tax "punishes people for not having access to transit options," but Brown bowled right over Todd’s research and blamed rural Californians for not being on board with his agenda.

Two professional associations of police leaders and chief law enforcement officers in Georgia have condemned the virulently anti-Israel and undeniably antisemitic “Deadly Exchange” campaign. That campaign, led by 'Jewish Voice for Peace', falsely blames Israel and American Jewish organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), for U.S. domestic police practices and problems in minority communities.

2018 was a mixed year for film overall. There were several notable studio blockbusters worthy of discussion but for the first time in my adult life, I found myself predominantly attracted to smaller independent/personal films this year as opposed to the largest studio blockbusters. I enjoyed Avengers: Infinity War as much as anyone else but it was far from the film that inspired me to think about it obsessively and watch it multiple times. That's not to say that big-budget studio films don't find a home on this list. They certainly do.
