Add Boston Marathon Bombing to pile of Failed Eliminationist Narratives

Add Boston Marathon Bombing to pile of Failed Eliminationist Narratives

It started with Bill Sparkman, the part-time Census worker who went missing and then was found dead, setting off an avalanche of mainstream media and left-blogosphere accusations that he was the victim of anti-government “right-wing” hate.  It turned out that Sparkman killed himself, but there were few if any apologies coming.

The Sparkman accusations were based on nothing more than a desire to demonize the newly formed and rapidly growing Tea Party movement as terrorists and un-American.  It was as if they were hoping for an act of Tea Party violence.

Yet there was a theory behind the madness, the Eliminationist Narrative created by Dave Neiwart of Crooks and Liars about an “eliminationist” radical right seeking to dehumanize and eliminate political opposition.  It was a play on the over-used narrative of Richard Hofstadter’s “paranoid style” in American politics.

The Eliminationist Narrative was aided and abetted by an abuse of the term “right-wing” to include groups who are the opposite of conservatism and the Tea Party movement.

In the case of Sparkman, the accusations were just Another Failed Eliminationist Narrative.  And the Eliminationist Narrative would fail time and time again:

We can now add the Boston Marathon Bombing to the pile.  The wild speculation that there was a Tea Party or “right-wing” connection proved false.

It turns out two Muslim Chechens apparently inspired by jihadist videos and ideology turned on the country which welcomed them with open arms.

Just another Failed Eliminationist Narrative, for which there will be no apologies.

CNN: Pressure Cooker Bomb ‘Right-Wing’ Signature:

An article published on CNN’s website makes an unproven claim that pressure cooker bombs like the ones used at the Boston Marathon terror attack are a “signature” of “right-wing extremists.”

The article says (emphasis added) :

A senior U.S. counterterrorism investigator told CNN that pressure cooker bombs have also been a signature of extreme right-wing individuals in the United States who he said tend to revel in building homemade bombs.

This specific claim that “pressure cooker bombs have also been a signature of extreme right-wing individuals in the United States” appears to be completely unsubstantiated. Not a single example is given even in the CNN story itself of anyone other than al-Quadea using a pressure cooker bomb.

He talks about leftists and their problems, but his goal was to destroy industrialized society. Sounds more anarchist than “Right Wing” to me.

How many more times will the progressive liberal MSM play the card and get it wrong? They’re batting a perfect whiff atm. I think their on base percentage is just as bad.

Great post, exposing the systematic attacks on conservatives. People that want smaller, more responsible government are certainly a threat to the “collectivists” and their henchmen in the media.

“two Muslim Chechens apparently inspired by jihadist videos”

The videos were surely important in their “continuing ed”, but it seems the brother had to make a trip to the terrorist “Mecca” in Chechnya to see the “glorious light” of violent jihad, and be fully immersed into that world. Or maybe a family member led him into that way. I believe it takes face to face shepherding. And blaming it on “those videos” is too much like Benghazi, ignoring coordinated action, as I see it.

We were even warned by Russia (they are saying another government, I first heard it was Russia) about this older brother. So the info they had didn’t come because they heard this guy was watching these videos. He had other important connections, it would seem.

I love that our pals at the NYT opine today that America has alienated these ‘isolated’ fine immigrant men, and we make it easy because there are enough weapons to kill anyone you want. Awww, it IS our fault after all!

My mother spent the last few days worring if the FBI will come after her, she just bought a pressure cooker at Macy’s with her credit card. She’s happy these ‘fine boys’ were exposed as the violent terrorists they are/were; she can make soups and stews in peace.

Thanks Professor. I am reading a 1992 book this morning created before Bill rain for Pres but thanking Hillary for reviewing the manuscript. Pushing a shift formally to Industrial Policy and calling it human resources-capitalism.

I just read a bogus economic analysis and then followed up on the footnote to check the cite. Hofstadter. Now I know why his name rang such a bell.

False beliefs. We really are dealing with an organized effort to instill false beliefs so we will all change our behavior accordingly without that being so obvious.

Nice list above of all the attempts at false narratives to go along with those mindsets we are all supposed to be developing. Lord knows K-12 education and higher ed and now grad programs are all doing their jobs. And the last few days were certainly enlightening on the one armed cartwheels the media will do to disregard inconvenient facts. Even when the consequences may be more exposure to murder and mayhem in the future.

And there was the unexploded car bomb in Times Square. Bloomberg speculated that it was the TEA Party, and when it turned out to be a Muslim (Faisal Shahzad), Bloomberg was quoted as saying, “I’m disappointed.”

On a different note, I find myself baffled by your statement “It was as if they were hoping for an act of Tea Party violence.”

“As if”?

That’s like saying “It’s as if Jimi Hendrix played the guitar,” or “It’s as if Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier.” No. It’s a definite. They WANT Tea Party violence. They dream of it like a little girl dreams of a pony for Christmas.

“Field of Dreams” The Journalist’s Cut.

While puttering about in his huge upscale garden one day, David Sirota hears a voice whisper, “If you write it, it will happen,” and sees a vision of a baseball diamond. Soon, Sirota is feverishly transforming his garden into a baseball field.

The final scene sees Sirota at bat, with a full count. He brazenly points to the wall in right field. With eyes closed, Sirota swings at the pitch with all his might.

The final credits start to roll as the umpire shouts, “Strike three!” and Sirota opens his eyes to see the pitcher, the catcher, and the entire ememy team all wearing tricorn baseball caps.

He screams at the fans as they chant, “USA! USA! USA!”

As for ourselves, we need to remain on ‘Lunatic Narrative’ in relative to the left.

If you have to lie, distort, play with language, and hide facts by omission in order to present your case, then there is something organically wrong with your position.

The question that remains in my mind is: are all these journalists just stupid themselves, having bought into someone else’s lying, distorting, and propagandizing (who?) and really believe the crap they are spouting? Or are they deliberately furthering this on audiences in the hope that the public is stupid, for some ulterior motivation or compensation (what?)

The editor of my high school newspaper, (back when I was a feature writer writing about what all high school kids like me (commas intentionally left out) were really interested in—horseracing, sewer sliding, best hamburger stands, etc.), is now perhaps the LA Times’ top political columnist.

    Stupid, you ask?

Doornail, doorknob, doormat stupid. Door-object cubed stupid.

Seeing him get his arse whupped by Andrew Breitbart and Michelle Malkin and Patterico was delicious.

Hearing Hugh Hewitt on his radio show call him out on his claim that many in the news media had called Obama a muslim to scare voters was comedy gold.

Hugh told him that was a complete media myth. When they went to a break, Hugh told him to Google it during the break and provide the name of one single mainstream media journalist who had called Obama a muslim when they came back after the break.

After the commercial, Hugh asked him to provide one name … and got a dial tone.

Then this dork called back to say he had another interview to do and couldn’t stay on any longer.

Hugh had a guest in the studio who had worked with this moron years before at the LA Times and he moaned, as best as I can remember,

“Yeah. On a Tuesday afternoon, an LA Times writer has a long series of interviews to do. Of course, he did have the time to call back and say he didn’t have time to answer your challenge.”

So, in answer to your question, you can be the dullest tool in a huge shed filled with dull tools … and you can rise be a top columnist at the LA Times!!

    Only in America!

In 2010 voters gave Republicans control of the House with a mandate to cut Federal spending. Why is NPR/CPB still being funded? This should be one of the easier cuts to make.

No matter, we will just turn to the phony “backlash” narrative and make a big deal out of wringing our hands over how worried we are our political opponents are going to launch a campaign of genocide on poor innocents. The repulsiveness is overwhelming.
