Hamas reacted to Obama’s “historic” speech to the Muslim world by attempting to kidnap Israeli soldiers along the Gaza border last night, in a coordinated assault timed also to coincide with the Lebanese elections:

DEBKAfile’s military sources report at least four...

In his “historic” speech to the Muslim world, Barack Obama spoke up for the rights of women. The first example Obama used was the right of Muslim women in the West to wear hair covering (italics mine):

The sixth issue that I want to address is women’s rights.

I know there is debate...

A portion in Barack Obama’s “historic” speech to the Muslim world was particularly odd. In apologizing for religious intolerance in the United States, Obama said as follows:

Freedom of religion is central to the ability of peoples to live together. We must always examine the ways in which we protect it. For...

“Some Say” Obama Is A Shorter

I didn’t know what the term “shorter” meant until I started blogging. A “shorter” is someone who exaggerates someone else’s opinion, or creates a false choice between two extremes. Back in the day, such form of argument would be called setting up a “strawman.”

As others have pointed out, Obama loves strawman...

Here is a one sentence summary of Barack Obama’s “historic” speech to the Muslim world:

“I have no right to tell you how to live, because we’re as bad as you are, but here’s how you need to live.”

Depends on what the meaning of “bow” is. Because leaning down to have a medal put over your head is not a bow. How could anyone think otherwise? From LGF:

Please note! Barack Obama is absolutely not bowing to King Abdullah! He’s receiving a medal.

That is not a bow. It’s very, very...

Louis Susman of Chicago was nicknamed “the vacuum cleaner” because he was so good at cleaning out the pockets of the wealthy to get them to give to Democratic causes and candidates. As noted on this blog last February, Susman was in line for ambassadorship to Britain after having raised $240 ...

On May 20, 2009, John Bolton wrote an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal titled “Get Ready for Another North Korean Nuke Test” in which he noted that the complacency of the Obama administration about North Korea’s nuclear ambitions (and Iran’s) was misplaced:

“The curtain is about to rise again on the...

When the NY Times takes Obama to task, I am always a little suspicious. Will this be a “he’s not perfect, but at least he’s not Bush” type of critique; a compliment disguised as a criticism.

So I don’t know what to make of this piece in today’s paper. Noting that Obama’s...

Gateway Pundit has a good update on the murder of Ilan Halimi:

Ilan was lured to his death by a woman he had met in his telephone store. They met up late on the night of January 20, 2006, in one of Paris’s southern suburbs, Bagneux. She was what is called a...

Give praise where praise is due. Barack Obama acted wisely in deciding to continue appealing the court-ordered release of detainee abuse photos.

These photos, by the way, have nothing to do with the controversial interrogation program which was the subject of the four legal memoranda recently released, or even the treatment of...

Professor Darren Hutchinson examines the military commissions Obama is establishing to try detainees, and finds that while there are some differences from the Bush tribunals, it is hard to conform Obama’s campaign promises with the current proposal:

As a Senator, Obama voted against the Military Commissions Act of 2006, and he successfully...

It would be very easy to fall into a depression over Arlen Specter switching political parties, giving Democrats a likely filibuster-proof Senate majority. The result will be that Obama will be able to push through much of his agenda without meaningful debate.

Not that I will miss Specter personally. Specter h...

Republicans are not Obama’s worst policy enemies. At least Obama knows that Republicans do not support Obama’s agenda. Democrats who are fixated on getting revenge on the Bush administration are Obama’s real problem, and are handing Republicans a policy gift by pushing hard for a congressional investigation and/or Justice Department prosecution...

Obama believed that exposing the dark side of the war on terror would ingratiate us with the world. At the same time, Obama thought pulling...
