Thanks to reader Dave, who sent this note accompanying the photo of a “Re-Elect President Carter 2004” bumper sticker:

“I took this while stopped at a light on MLK Blvd in Baltimore. Now, if it said “Re-elect Carter 2012″ I would have thought to myself ‘Oooh, clever commentary on the job the president is doing, I want one”. But it doesn’t, it says “Re-elect Carter 2004″. Huh? W=Carter?? Hoping for Jimmy to run instead of Kerry? What does it mean? I wonder if any of your readers get it, frankly, it’s right over my head.”

Man v. man

Spotted by reader Bob from Windsor, CO, while visiting in Irvine, CA.

But what does it mean?  The usual configuration has lower case “man” twice, and is taken to mean that there is no real difference between the political parties.

But here it’s Man v. man?

Deep meaning, or a case for The Most Expensive Proofreader in America?

(I like this explanation of the difference between Republicans and Democrats somewhat better.)

Thanks to a reader for this car spotted in Roxbury, NJ.

Usually people in Jersey are more subtle than this, so I’m quite surprised at the ostentatious display.

And I didn’t even vote for him.

Taken by reader Joe in NY in a parking lot near where he works.  Seeing these stickers made him feel not quite so alone:

Some alternatives:

“We’re all sorry now.”

“He is the sorry we have been waiting for.”

“Sorry means never having to say you love him.”

Taken by reader Scott in North Raleigh, NC, while stopped at a red light (thanks for humoring me).

Scott says it’s one of the first time’s he’s agreed with a Tar Heels fan.  Hey, maybe this has brought us all together:

Thanks to Steve Burri for sending this photo he took in the physicians’ parking area at a local Wisconsin hospital.

I hope the docs are better at surgery than they are at picking political winners:

“The” Turfmann took this photo of a car in the Boston area, which he says has some sort of vulgar anti-Palin wolf bumper sticker on it.  And he added:

Oh, I want you to know that in keeping with your pleas to be safe, I had both hands firmly on the wheel and my seat belt on when I performed the PIT maneuver on the car, sending it careening into a Kentucky Fried Chicken parking lot. 😉

Your help in uncovering the text of these bumper stickers would be appreciated:

Imagine my surprise to see this vehicle with Virginia plates in Ithaca.  From the decal, my guess is this belongs to the parents of a Cornell Engineering student.

I met the owners, who were quite happy to have me photograph the bumper stickers:

“George W. Obama”

Perhaps this is why Obama was so annoyed when a local Texas reporter asked Obama why he was so unpopular in Texas, found on a car in Austin bearing various liberal bumper stickers:

If Obama is losing the Austin crowd, how long before the base turns on him in Berkeley, Ithaca and Cambridge?

(I can’t find the e-mail from the reader who sent this, so please send again for a proper h/t)

Update:  Thanks to William, a Cornell grad, for the photo above.
