Antisemitic Crimes in NYC Surging As Mamdani Ignores Another Violent Subway Attack
“When the city’s leader can’t even speak out against raw antisemitic violence invoking the darkest libels of the past, it signals to every hater that such cruelty is tolerable in New York.”
In January, Democratic Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s first month in office, there was a 182 percent rise in antisemitic incidents compared to January 2025, “even as other crimes such as murders and shootings reached record lows,” according to a New York Post report at the time.
It wasn’t a surprise considering it was only a matter of time before the attacks were ramped up by antisemitic thugs who were emboldened that their new mayor was “one of them.” Nevertheless, it confirmed some of the worst fears of Jewish residents in a relatively short amount of time about what the city would be like under Mamdani’s leadership.
Though they claimed they weren’t pressured by Mamdani, in early March, the NYPD conveniently announced that they were going to report on hate crime stats differently, to give “a more accurate representation of confirmed hate crimes” in NYC:
Previously, the department reported alleged hate crimes that were still under review. The NYPD will now report hate crimes that have been investigated and officially confirmed as such by the Hate Crimes Task Force. This updated methodology will provide a more accurate representation of confirmed hate crimes in the city. For the month of February, the NYPD recorded 38 hate crimes.
Mamdani probably thought this would make the year-to-year comparisons on antisemitic incidents look far less troubling.
But he was wrong.
Antisemitic incidents soared in the Big Apple in May, with confirmed incidents rising by 71 percent from the previous year:
Antisemitic hate crimes surged in New York City in the month of May 2026, with a total of 41 confirmed incidents, the New York Police Department (NYPD) announced Wednesday.
This marked a 71% increase from the same month in 2025. It also meant that hate crimes targeting Jews made up 60% of all hate crimes in the city last month.
The number of reported antisemitic hate crimes was 60, 61% of the total number of reported (unconfirmed) hate crimes.

And when it comes to comparisons of the data on confirmed hate crimes against specific groups, the number of antisemitic incidents for this year far outnumber that of hate crimes against any other specific group, including Muslims:
So far in 2026, there have been 152 confirmed antisemitic hate crimes. There have been 17 confirmed hate crimes against Muslims, 9 against Asian people, and 18 against Black people.
The statistics were reported just days after another violent antisemitic attack happened on the city’s subway system:

Strangely, Mamdani hasn’t found the time to comment on it, though he’s spent plenty of time on X talking about the New York Knicks making the NBA finals and about water bottles at World Cup Games:

I question the number of crimes against muslims frankly. I also question the severity of those crimes vs the severity of crimes against Jews. I could be completely wrong. Not true at all. Where do you get your information? There are only 5.1 million registered voters, and 2.2 million turned out.
And that 5.1 million is too high, because the total population is only 8.8 million, and that includes a significant percentage of aliens. The 5.1 million obviously includes people who never vote because they’re dead or have moved away (and the Dems haven’t discovered them yet).

The fact is that aliens are not eligible to vote, and therefore the number of aliens in NYC reduces the proportion of the total population that is registrable. There is no city anywhere that could have 8.8M people, with 8M of them registered to vote; still less so NYC with all its aliens.
