NYC Mayor Eric Adams Wants to Modify Sanctuary City Law to Allow Turning Over Illegals Who Commit Felonies to ICE

Gee, maybe next time accept reality instead of passing policies on feels.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said he wants to modify the city’s sanctuary law to allow authorities to turn over illegal immigrants who commit crimes to ICE.

It’s sort of hard to hear him, but from what I could tell, Adams told someone that the law should say that if you commit a felony or violent act, then the authorities should be allowed to hand you over to ICE and be deported.

I wonder if it will happen. Because, you know, no one ever saw what would happen if you became a sanctuary city (sarcasm)!

New York City has received thousands of illegal immigrants from Texas and Arizona, but many have gone there on their own. People at the border have told reporters they had plans to go to NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, and other blue cities.

The crime has gone up to the point where Adams implemented curfews at migrant shelters.

The curfew has not done much since Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is soft on crime unless it’s supposedly been done by former President Donald Trump. Bragg only requested bail for one of the handful of Venezuelan illegal immigrants who attacked two cops in Times Square. Well, one took part in a robbery, and some are still missing.

Adams even had to reassure Harlem residents that the city wouldn’t use empty luxury apartment buildings to house illegal immigrants.

Let’s not forget the outrage from parents when the city decided to use a Brooklyn school to house illegal immigrants, forcing the students to go remote.

Comments

Adams said they wanted illegals, they should have to keep them.

An alternative solution might be to have politicians supporting sanctuary to post a five million dollar bail bond for any illegal alien committing a felony. Even better, if the illegal alien jumps bail, the politician will be charged with a felony with a year jail sentence.

Just in time for election season. See, we the party of LaW n OrDeR.

Something similar is happening with Kansas City mayor Lucas. After years of trying to defund the police by re-allocating police funding to ‘community counseling’ before the court smacked him down, Lucas is now championing tougher punishment for gun crimes in wake of superbowl parade shootings.

Look for this back peddle narrative to be hammered home in blue states just in time for election season.

The Mayor is safe with this because the DA will not charge and prosecute.

    1. It wouldn’t be up to the DA; if the council made this change, then the police, upon arresting someone on felony charges, would drop a dime to ICE and ask them to pick the person up.

    2. In any case, the DA is only a problem in one county. That leaves the rest of the city.

“Gee, maybe next time accept reality instead of passing policies on feels.”

I initially misread that as: “…pressing the politics of feels.” I’m gonna use that.

Too little, too late you bent tool.

“No, Eric, you promised that if we got you pets that you would feed them and look after them and walk them every day, and that’s exactly what you’re gonna have to do.”

He never promised anything of the kind.

Sanctuary has never meant a promise to look after anyone. It simply meant, and still means, that the city won’t inform on anyone to ICE or hold anyone for them.

In any case, Adams never promised even that; he inherited the sanctuary city policy, which was law long before he came in.

Policy and law approved and passed by Adams’ political party.

      He’s no one’s innocent bystander.

Actually if I recall correctly it was Bloomberg’s big idea, and he was nominally a “Republican”.

A Republican who ran in the Democrat presidential primaries, and who founded one of the three biggest gun-grabbing organizations in the world.
In other words, a Republican in exactly the same way that you are a Democrat.

Milhouse in reply to Milhouse. | February 28, 2024 at 2:22 am

          That’s why I said “nominally”.

The only reason he ran as a Republican in the first place was because there were four very strong and well-funded candidates in the Dem primary, while the Rep primary only had Herman Badillo, with a campaign budget of approximately $32.60.

But he was nominally a “Republican”, so it wasn’t just Adams’s political party that instituted this policy.

Actually I just looked it up, and it seems it was originally an executive order by Bloomberg. Later, under De Blasio, the council made it a law. And later still, the state legislature made it a law for the whole state.

So Adams is going back to the leftist playbook — he’s going to change the definition of “sanctuary,” like they did to “vaccine.”
Hey, Eric, here’s a clue: it’s possible for a hooker to swear off sex, but it also means she has to stop claiming to be a hooker.

There’s no reason the city can’t continue to offer sanctuary for illegal aliens who don’t commit violent felonies, while not offering it to those who do. If you had a house guest who robbed you, you’d rescind their invitation PDQ, wouldn’t you?

In any case, this was never his policy, it was the law long before his time.

Pssssst…. Milhouse…..they’re still in the country illegally, and

      1. Receiving government benefits
      2. Not receiving benefits, but working using a stolen SSN or working illegally with no SSN
      3. Not working or receiving benefits but “somehow” having enough money to live – either by absorbing charitable donations that could otherwise be used for citizens in need, or dare I say, theft?

Milhouse in reply to Hodge. | February 28, 2024 at 2:25 am

Of course they’re still in the country illegally. But there’s no reason why the city has to continue offering sanctuary to all of them. There’s no contradiction in it saying we’ll continue to protect most of you, but if you abuse our hospitality by using it to commit violent felonies we’re calling ICE. It’s a perfectly consistent policy, whether you agree with it or not.

“sanctuary for illegal aliens who don’t commit violent felonies”
Or “let’s move the goalposts,” the treasured tactic of salami-slicing Democrats throughout history.

Leftist blue enclaves have a problem. They put into place policies that coddle criminals, provide shelter to the ‘un-housed’, provide significant welfare benefits then declared themselves to be a ‘sanctuary’ for illegal aliens.

Taken together those policies work as a magnet to illegal aliens to come and take advantage of the largesse offered by these leftist blue enclaves. Until the voters in these places vote out enough of the politicians who created this mess to make significant reform the magnet will continue to attract more illegal aliens….at least until they go bankrupt.

In my younger days I used to think the left was incompetent because they didn’t know how to treat crime and criminals, that they were too infatuated with trendy, “unintuitive bur promising” ideas in criminal justice.

Only in the past ten years have I grown to suspect that the left deliberately cultivates criminality, serving criminals in the same way that a union serves workers.

CommoChief in reply to henrybowman. | February 27, 2024 at 4:26 pm

TBH I believe its both. The policy makers and policy influencers.(donors/activists/grifters/talking heads) know the score and are.deliberately doing damage. Then there’s the useful idiots who allow their emotions and ’empathy’ to be played and overcome the rational and logical conclusion of these policies.

If Trump is fortunate enough to be reelected, he should take every FBI agent he can find and park them in every location where arrestees are first processed. That would kill two birds with one stone. It would limit the damage the FBI can continue to do and it would simply nullify the sanctuary city practice of not notifying the feds. Its’ tough to not notify the feds when one is sitting in central booking 24/7.

This is the first step for NYC to become a fascist Maga city. I hope when these new citizens vote, they remember Adams’ words and vote him out of office.

Facebook has an historic NYC group page. Comment after comment on the photos….”Look how clean”.

What a racist! No human is illegal! The White man stole their land!

Hate Speech by Mayor Adams! The horror!

New law – dump all illegals in the Hudson River for a swimming exam – in NOV-FEB timeframe.
