NY Times: Ron DeSantis Was an ‘Arrogant’ Yale Baseball Captain, Frat ‘Bully,’ ‘Bored’ With Woke Students

“DeSantis rolled his eyes as one [secret society] member, Cristina Sosa Noriega, talked about growing up as a Hispanic public schoolgirl in San Antonio. […] ‘He seemed bored and disinterested. It was like I wasn’t worth listening to. I had the feeling that he assumed that I didn’t deserve to be there.'”

As has been reaffirmed over the past couple of years, the mainstream media will let you know as only they can which Republican public figure they fear the most. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis easily beats out the competition time and time again for the MSM’s prestigious “Worse than Trump” award.

And, of course, the closer we get to the start of the GOP presidential primaries – with the first debate being tonight, the more predictable their attacks against DeSantis and some of the other candidates will get. We saw this most recently with how they added fuel to the fire of the Trump campaign/influencer outrage over DeSantis’ “listless vessels” comment by taking it out of context.

Not to be outdone, the New York Times is – as other media outlets, including the NYT, have done in the past – reviving the “Kavanaughing” of DeSantis by digging into his days as a Yale student and baseball player, interviewing mostly former students and alleged fellow frat/secret society members who described DeSantis as a supposedly “arrogant” and “bullying” figure, and one who – gasp – allegedly rolled his eyes when one Hispanic female student recalled her time growing up in Texas (archived link here):

His arrogance could startle. At a “captain’s practice” that fall, the [baseball] team’s revered coach, John Stuper, delivered a brief pep talk to the freshmen. After he left, Mr. DeSantis told the team that their coach, a former major league pitcher, didn’t know what he was doing.

[…]

During the [Delta Kappa Epsilon] fraternity’s “hell week,” pledges wore costumes smeared with rotten food and condiments. They might be ordered to simulate sex with one another or do outdoor calisthenics in the winter air. According to four former pledges and brothers, Mr. DeSantis required one pledge, for whom he served as “father,” to wear a pair of baseball pants with the back and thighs cut out, exposing his buttocks and genitals.

Another D.K.E. brother, Scott Wagner, a friend of Mr. DeSantis who served on the governor’s Florida transition team, said none of the pledges’ costumes involved nudity. Reached by The Times, the former pledge, who asked not to be identified, confirmed that he was made to wear the revealing costume but declined to discuss the experience further. Today, some of the former brothers and pledges regard Mr. DeSantis’s behavior as foreshadowing a comfort with power — and with using it to bully others.

[…]

At [secret society] meetings, the members took turns delivering their “bios,” or life stories, in the living room, in speeches that could last hours. Mr. DeSantis often showed up in his baseball uniform; his own bio leaned heavily on baseball, his Florida roots and his journey to Yale. But when it came time for others to tell their stories, Mr. DeSantis tuned out, according to former St. Elmo members. He rolled his eyes as one member, Cristina Sosa Noriega, talked about growing up as a Hispanic public schoolgirl in San Antonio, Ms. Sosa Noriega and two other members recalled. “He seemed bored and disinterested,” Ms. Sosa Noriega said. “It was like I wasn’t worth listening to. I had the feeling that he assumed that I didn’t deserve to be there.”

Not surprisingly, others in the MSM pounced and seized on the Times report as further proof that DeSantis is an insensitive bigot or something. It didn’t take long, however, before the mocking began – and their ridiculousness was called out:

Then I guess that means I’m disqualified from running, too. Oh well…

In College I would get bored and exasperated when people went on about themselves too.

Now I’m more practiced at ignoring the sounds coming from their noise holes.

The worst condemnation was the revelation that he attended Yale.

It must be quite the challenge for the NYT to find criticisms about an amazingly successful Governor while also finding reasons to vote for our senile current President who has nothing but notable failures and ceaseless vacations to his credit.

Especially since DeSantis is supposedly (according to supporters of a certain self-proclaimed front-runner), the Establishment Choice.

You’d think the Uniparty Establishment wouldn’t be trying to scuttle their boy.

With regards to your last sentence sure they would. At the end of the day, the “Uniparty” will always prefer a Democrat over a Republican.

“You’d think the Uniparty Establishment wouldn’t be trying to scuttle their boy.”

      He’s not ‘their boy’.

His candidacy was encouraged to drive a wedge into the populist segment of the GOP.

His candidacy was intended, becaause of the split, to make him ineffectual iin Florida for the remainder of his term and incapable of running again for president.

We need to understand this and prevent it from working.

Twitter is no longer a left wing random quote machine, which doubles a New York Times’ journalist’s workload to just under 1 hour(s)..

All this story did for me was make me feel sorry for the state of mind that woman is in. Someone in college rolled his eyes at something stupid she was saying and 30yrs later she is still traumatized over it? What a vapid, self absorbed life it has been for her

These media creatures sound like gossiping junior high school girls going on about another girl who is just a bit too, too, well I don’t know…ya know…she just…

An eye roll? The horror!

1) Glad the Navy helped him mature.
2) Biden had to make up his athletic history.
3) Biden had to make up his academic history.
4) Only now is the press even asking about Obama’s history. I still haven’t read about anyone who remembers him in law school. His old girlfriend was just asked about their relationship for the first time. Interesting letter. I understand why their hetero relationship ended.

I’m waiting for the “pushes old ladies in wheelchairs off of cliffs” phase.

I believe they will pull that canard out over potential reforms to Medicare/Social Security. All these folks lose their damn minds over anyone offering a plan or even discussing the looming shortfall. These same jackass with their head in the sand are locking in a 25% cut in Social Security within the decade. Most of them are boomers so instead of the usual ‘eff them kids’ it’s eff them grandkids.

The word ‘petty’ just isn’t enough.

.
Texas Hispanic? What happened to la raza Latinx?

“a pair of baseball pants with the back and thighs cut out, exposing his buttocks and genitals.”

Casual wear at Pride events.

I was already going to vote for him in the primaries, I don’t need anymore convincing.

I was in a frat in college and when the pledges were being vetted they were told to do all sorts of stupid things. It was never by just one person ordering it as this article implies. Man! If all that could be found out about me in 30 years was an eye roll I would be really lucky! He sounds like he just might be the cleanest POTUS candidate in history! Also, being a bully as the captain of the baseball team is part of the job. If they needed a hand holder, then that wasn’t his job. For comparison, Google Stormy Daniels, and I guarantee you will roll your eyes.

In what alternate universe is a Hispanic or Black kid less “deserving” of going to Yale than a young man from a white working-class background?

    JohnSmith100 in reply to spappas. | August 23, 2023 at 11:25 am

Offhand I would that with a average group IQ of 85 & 87 that most do not deserve to go to Yale. Some will qualify, but on per capita basis far few than whites, even more so for Asians.

Her dad was a teacher at the JFK School at the time she attended Yale, after her mom and dad had sold their advertizing company for several million around 2000. She grew up in one of San Antonio’s more exclusive and gentrified neighborhoods. Not exactly the story that the Gray Lady implies here.

Thou shalt not refuse to take a woman’s complaints seriously, at least according to the feminists who go out of their way to ignore their own bias and misandry.

I got so bored with one of these overeducated idiots being so full of themselves I dropped out of the MBA program and haven’t looked back. Good on DeSantis rolling his eyes.

What percentage of NYTs readers will vote for DeSantis or any Republican? 1%, if that?

Love this story, and makes me like DeSantis even more. It wouldn’t shock me to hear that his campaign started this even. I almost hope they did. Hah! And the timing is awesome. Please, please debate moderators, bring this up at the debate.

They have to feed their subscribers their necessary dose of poison, so the latter can show their ignorance by spouting how terrible their opponents are.

However, the Republican they fear most is the one they are trying to eliminate from the ballot and put in jail. To say otherwise is to deny reality.

If Democrats are afraid of RDS the NYT will be alleging crimes.

Even the Biden FBI knows it’s a hard sell to a federal judge to sign a warrant for an eye roll directed towards a cis Hispanic.

As it was so accurately summed up years ago: Dirty, dirty smear merchants! Just another disgusting attempt to make a good candidate seem unpalatable to the electorate. They’ll do it to the others too if they rise in popularity.

Breaking News: Gen X kid once rolled his eyes in college.

I heard he fell asleep at memorial for a thousand people who just died in a fire.

A baseball player at Yale? I think I heard that back story before and it didn’t end well.

“NY Times: Ron DeSantis Was an ‘Arrogant’ Yale Baseball Captain, Frat ‘Bully,’ ‘Bored’ With Woke Students”

I’m fine with all three, especially the last.

    diver64 in reply to MTED. | August 25, 2023 at 5:58 am

When your the Captain of the team you are a little arrogant I should think, Frat Bully to….other frat members? Don’t care, we are all bored with the woke.

I’m with you about being fine with all of it. I’d like to see real disagreements with DeSantis based on substance not 30yr old rumors.

I must admit that I, too, am frequently bored by work students who take every opportunity to demonstrate their wokeness. Mostly because it is super boring and predictable.

I guess I belonged to the wrong fraternity. Pretty much all we did was get drunk and sing dirty songs.

Seems tame compared to their rotting bag of oatmeal in the WH.

OwenKellogg-Engineer | August 23, 2023 at 2:04 pm

Makes me wonder why they still are attacking him if he is failing so miserably as they claim.

Lately, I roll my eyes at least once a day–I’m rolling my eyes right now at what the idiot that reported this

The article is actually comforting. DeSantis would only be suspect if the NY Slimes DIDN”T publish a hit piece on him.

True. I try not to judge a person by the people who claim to be their friends. Rather I look for really disgusting examples of humanity and if they hate the person, there’s positive potential there.

Perhaps, the invocation of identity politics produced a bored reaction-which would have been entirely legitimate together with a yawn.
