Mike Bass, CNN’s top programming executive, has decided to leave the network at the end of the year.
Bass decided to leave on his own instead of new CEO Chris Licht laying him off. From the memo Licht sent around:
I’m writing to let you know that Michael Bass has made the decision to leave CNN at the end of this year. Throughout his nearly decade-long run at this organization, Michael has demonstrated incredible leadership and perseverance. He has been a steady hand during some of the most turbulent times this network has faced.
Bass joined CNN in 2013 after working at NBC and CBS. He became close to former CEO Jeff Zucker at NBC.
Licht has changed much at CNN since taking over to make the network more non-partisan. He also announced more layoffs by the end of the year. That news has spooked people.
That’s why I wonder if Bass is really leaving on his own accord or if it’s a deal with Licht.
Licht quickly cut Jake Tapper’s primetime show. He will stay in his afternoon slot on The Lead.
Leftist Don Lemon lost his primetime show and moved to the morning. The morning show has not done well for CNN, and the revamped show isn’t fairing well either.
Jeffrey Toobin, who got caught spending time with himself on Zoom, announced his departure in August.
Licht canceled the show Reliable Sources and host Brian Stelter left the network in August.
