Newsweek Proclaims Antifa Doesn’t Exist in Bizarre Ted Cruz ‘Fact Check’

Earlier this week, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) showed up on the set of ABC’s “The View” program for what predictably ended up being a wild segment complete with hecklers getting thrown out and the far-left co-hosts trying to gang up on Cruz, with Cruz responding by pointing out some inconvenient facts on such matters as Democrat election denialism and the 2020 Antifa/Black Lives Matter-led riots.

During one exchange when Cruz pointed out that leftists like failed 2018 Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams and failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton were election deniers for repeatedly claiming that their respective elections were “stolen” and/or “rigged” against them, Goldberg remarked in so many words that at least Democrats weren’t violent when they lost.

Here’s how that back and forth went down:

CRUZ: Why don’t you tell that to Stacey Abrams who said the election was stolen? They sat here and said it was illegitimate.GOLDBERG: yes! That’s right. And it was.CRUZ: And you guys were fine with it. Okay, so it’s illegitimate when Republicans win, but not when Democrats –GOLDBERG [interrupting]: No. Here’s the thing. We may not like when Republicans win, but we don’t go and we don’t storm. We don’t try to change the – We’ll go to court. We don’t do that.CRUZ: Did I miss an entire year of Antifa riots where cities across this country were burning and police cars were being firebombed?GOLDBERG: I don’t know what an Antifa riot is. I guess you did.CRUZ: Your position is the left doesn’t engage in violence, really?

Watch:

One would think that Cruz’s point on the Antifa/BLM riots of 2020 would be irrefutable. I mean the evidence is overwhelming that Democrat-run cities burned for months after the officer-involved death of Minneapolis resident George Floyd, with rioters destroying entire city blocks in places like Minneapolis and Portland, leaving some communities devastated.

At one point, the Secret Service even had to take then-President Donald Trump to a secure bunker over concerns about Antifa/BLM rioters in Washington, D.C., who were torching everything in sight and jumping over barriers that had been erected by police.

But as we’ve documented numerous times before, so-called “fact checkers” never let actual facts get in the way of the left’s bogus narratives, which is exactly what happened with Newsweek, which “fact-checked” Cruz’s claim and found it false because full cities did not literally burn down, the riots didn’t take place over the course of a year, and because Antifa supposedly doesn’t exist:

The majority of the Floyd protests, however, took place between late May and early June 2020, whereas Cruz’s claim is that violence carried on across America for a year.[…]While many businesses were damaged or destroyed as a result of arson, Cruz’s characterization that “cities” burned for a year is significantly stretching the truth, even if taken figuratively. The senator’s labeling of the events as antifa riots is misleading too. Notwithstanding that antifa is not a formalized group or association, Black Lives Matter was largely recognized as having galvanized protestors across the world following Floyd’s death.

Originally, Newsweek made the following declaration about the existence of Antifa before updating what they wrote:

Labeling the protests as “Antifa riots” is misleading too as there is no organization or group known as such.

Christopher Rufo, who has helped lead the fight against the implementation of Critical Race Theory and other “woke” indoctrination ideas pushed by Democrats into the public school system, responded accordingly:

Oddly enough, at one time, Newsweek apparently believed Antifa was a real thing:

Even more alarmingly, House Democratic leaders like Judiciary Chair Jerry Nadler have in the past falsely claimed Antifa is “imaginary,” a “myth”:

Unfortunately for the Democrat apologists in the MSM and Democrats like Nadler, the facts don’t care about their feelings.
