Biden Draining Strategic Petroleum Reserve, Intended For National Emergency, Trying To Salvage Midterms

As Bidenflation took root and gas prices shot up, Joe “I am the Democratic Party” Biden preened about how effectively the pain this caused American consumers across the U.S. economy would force his delusional “great transition.” He was so happy . . . until the polls started rolling in.

Tanking to historic lows, Biden managed to poll worse than Trump at similar points in their presidencies on numerous occasions. Considering the contrast in press coverage, this was a remarkable feat. The effect bled out to all Democrats, and a red midterm tsunami was all but assured. Biden had to get gas prices down, but how?

The obvious response would be to undo all the damage he had done to the fossil fuel industry in this country, to get the oil and gas flowing again, to return to President Trump’s energy independence. He could have done this, still could, but instead, Biden remains laser-focused on his deeply-flawed, fantastical “green energy transition” pipe dream.

So barring anything that might actually work both in the short and long term, Biden decided to blame-shift, temporarily increase engine-killing corn in gasoline, and to release oil from America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (including selling it overseas as Americans struggle at home).  These temporary measures are intended to be just that, temporary.  They have to get Team American Last through the midterms with gas prices somewhat lower than the Biden $4 and $5/gal.

Having succeeded, in part by using our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to somewhat lower gas prices, Biden, Democrats, and their propagandist arm of media activists trumpeted Biden’s great success in affecting gas prices.  When—not if—gas prices shoot back up, we’ll all be told once more that Biden has no control over gas prices.

Biden’s draining of the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve to bolster his party’s midterm chances is not only a cynical political ploy but a threat to our nation’s energy security.  According to Forbes, our SPR is “at its lowest level since 1984.”

Townhall reports:

The SPR is an emergency reserve typically tapped during natural disasters, times of war and limited extraordinary circumstances. Biden started its depletion for political purposes in an attempt to lower gas prices — ahead of a midterm election — while continuing to handcuff oil producers. The use of the reserve hasn’t worked to significantly gas lower prices and with continuing daily releases, SPR levels are getting alarmingly low.

Biden has said that they will replenish the SPR when prices hit $80 a barrel, but it’s good to remember that Democrats blocked Trump’s attempt to replenish it at $24 a barrel.

PJMedia reports:

In March, Joe Biden ordered the release of millions of barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in order to address the record-high gas prices that were plaguing the nation. Gas prices are still way above normal, and Biden is still tapping those reserves, but he has a plan: once oil prices drop below $80/barrel, we’ll restock it.. . . . It’s just too bad we didn’t load up the reserves when gas prices were much cheaper.Oh, wait, Trump tried to do that. But Democrats stopped him.“It was only two years earlier that Democrats blocked former President Trump from filling the reserve when oil was hovering around $24 per barrel,” reports Bloomberg. “Trump in March of 2020 was looking to stabilize the oil industry after Covid-19 hit in 2020 and crushed global petroleum demand. With oil at the time priced at about $24 a barrel, Republicans proposed spending $3 billion to fill up the reserve. But the idea became a political football in larger negotiations on trillions in coronavirus relief, with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer proclaiming that his party had blocked a ‘bailout for big oil.’”This was an incredibly costly decision. According to Bloomberg, because of the Democrats’ grandstanding over “big oil” profits, the United States effectively lost billions in potential profits, not to mention that there was less supply.

The SPR is intended to be used during emergencies to ensure American energy security, not to help sleazy, corrupt politicians win elections.
