Pentagon Again Denies D.C. Mayor Bowser’s Request for National Guard to Help With Illegal Immigrants

Pentagon Again Denies D.C. Mayor Bowser’s Request for National Guard to Help With Illegal Immigrants

“The DCNG has no specific experience in or training for this kind of mission or unique skills for providing facility management, feeding, sanitation or ground support.”

For the second time, the Department of Defense denied DC Mayor Muriel Bowser’s request to deploy the National Guard to help the thousands of illegal immigrants bused to the city.

Pentagon Executive Secretary Kelly Bulliner Holly explained to Bowser why the department could not deploy the National Guard.

Unfortunately, I could not find a copy of the letter. The outlets did attach a copy. From Fox News:

Defense Department executive secretary Kelly Bulliner Holly wrote in a letter to Bowser on Monday that the D.C. National Guard is not trained to assist migrants and activation would lead to “diminished readiness” for the troops.

“The DCNG has no specific experience in or training for this kind of mission or unique skills for providing facility management, feeding, sanitation or ground support,” Holly wrote in the letter, which was reviewed by Fox News.

“Approval of this request would also result in a substantial readiness impact to the DCNG,” Holly continued. “Devoting the personnel or the facility for such an extended mission would force the cancellation or disruption of military training.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Arizona Gov. Greg Abbott started busing illegal immigrants to DC in April since the Biden Administration has not done anything to help the border with all the migrants crossing the border.

The small border towns do not have the resources to handle the influx of migrants. Abbott and Ducey continue to use state resources to help out, but immigration is a federal issue. They have asked Biden for help.

Last month, Bowser asked the Pentagon for help from the National Guard.

The Pentagon denied the request: “We have determined providing this support would negatively impact the readiness of the DCNG and have negative effects on the organization and members.”

On August 11, Bowser asked the Pentagon again for the National Guard. She told officials she hoped “for a 90-day deployment from the National Guard to provide ‘logistical support.'”

Abbott has sent about 7,000 illegal immigrants to DC since April. He sent some to New York City after Mayor Eric Adams blamed Texas and Arizona for the people arriving in his city.

But the feds flew illegal immigrants to New York in the middle of the night starting last year.

Adams did not stop, so Abbott started busing illegal immigrants to NYC: “Before we began busing migrants to New York, it was just Texas and Arizona that bore the brunt of all the chaos and problems that come with it. Now, the rest of America can understand exactly what is going on.”

Maybe Adams and Bowser shouldn’t have declared their cities as sanctuary cities.

Sorry Muriel, you are just going to have to take one for the Progressive team.

Wait ’till those people start voting Republican, then you will really have something to whine about.

She will have to take one for the Leftist team, but the votes will not be the problem for her. The Democrats still count the votes, adjusting as needed. The problem is going to be the Mexican gangs that accompany all the fentanyl that is coming in with the illegal invaders. They are there to run the distribution of illegal drugs, and the largely black criminal gangs already in place in DC are not going to take kindly to the competition. Racial gang wars.

    Subotai Bahadur

Since the NG won’t help, she should call the Oathkeepers.

Come on Muriel! By now you must realize that the only reason your request was denied is because you’re black.

Serious question: Why is she upset?

“The DCNG has no specific experience in or training for this kind of mission or unique skills for providing facility management, feeding, sanitation or ground support.”

This is an outright lie.

The D.C. Army National Guard consists of the following major units:

Land Component Command
74th Troop Command
372nd Military Police Battalion (“Red Hand”)
547th Transportation Company
104th Maintenance Company
715th Public Affairs Detachment
Medical Command/Detachment
270th Regional Training Institute
1-224th Aviation Security and Support Battalion
1-226th General Support aviation Battalion
Detachment 4, Operational Support Airlift
257th Band “The Band of the Nation’s Capital”
33rd Civil Support Team
Multi-Agency Augmentation Command

Some of these units have a mission of providing Facility Management, Feeding, Sanitation and Ground Support to their own, and other military units. The question becomes if they do have that experience, why won’t the Pentagon allow them to do so, if they don’t have that experience, what good are they? Can they do that mission during a natural disaster (Katrina) for Americans, but can’t do the mission for an overload of illegals? There’s something fishy going on here.

    CommoChief in reply to rutvet83. | August 23, 2022 at 4:59 pm

    The real question is threefold.
    1. Who pays for it; DoD (Federal govt) or DC?

2 What pay rate to the troops? State mobilisation pay rates are ridiculously low; $10 a day or some such and that’s all. Federal pay rates are the same as AD troops plus housing allowance, basic allowance for substance, separation pay and so on.

    3. Setting a precedent. The DoD isn’t going to volunteer to pay for a 90 day deployment. The Biden WH isn’t going to give DoD an order to do so. First the States will and their Congressional delegation will be lining up for the same. Second lets say there is 7K illegals and DC gets 320 NG, a ratio of 1 NG for every 22 illegals. Every future mission will demand that ratio as a minimum.

Then we come to mission set. This isn’t a NG mission. The border States figured out how to work with local communities, NGOs, volunteers, private and public funding to provide the services that DC and NYC are bitching about. Then we look at mobilization tempo. You can’t call up the NG because some govt entity isn’t capable of providing services.

Some guy in the NG joins to serve at arms in case of war or to provide assistance during a national disaster. They didn’t join to get called up to process illegal aliens, yes they are volunteers but that ain’t what they volunteered for. These folks have regular jobs, careers, families. Pulling them out or away for this is unlikely to make retaining them or replacing easier.

      rutvet83 in reply to CommoChief. | August 23, 2022 at 5:45 pm

While I agree with all of your points, there are still some things to consider. Who pays for it? Money has never been the problem for the Federal Government. Don’t have enough? Print some more, or move some electrons around in an account so that there will be enough.

“These folks have regular jobs, careers, families. Pulling them out or away for this is unlikely to make retaining them or replacing easier.” Didn’t seem to bother anyone when they got rid of 62k National Guard and Reservists for failing to get Covid scamdemic injections.

“They didn’t join to get called up to process illegal aliens, yes they are volunteers but that ain’t what they volunteered for.” In my 24 years I did a whole lot of things that I didn’t volunteer for, (carrying body parts to the burn pit in Balad) so that won’t fly with this old man.

The bottom line is that the NG could have the troops do this, but somewhere, somebody is preventing it. I don’t agree with the whole premise using the NG for that mission, it really doesn’t matter about public opinion as the resident in the White House is going to do what is politically advantageous, maybe allowing it after the midterms?

        Ironclaw in reply to rutvet83. | August 23, 2022 at 6:53 pm

Why should any of us pay for the consequences of the stupid communist heiffer getting exactly what she said she wanted? Let her enjoy it to the fullest.

henrybowman in reply to Ironclaw. | August 24, 2022 at 1:34 pm

I agree, but the Biden administration doesn’t exercise the same moral or political compulsions as you or I. Case in point — they just did exactly this for affluent young college graduates. So why aren’t they doing it for their crown jewel plantation?

        CommoChief in reply to rutvet83. | August 23, 2022 at 9:45 pm

If you were in Balad in 03/04 you were moving some dead bodies I helped make dead so I feel you to an extent. At least disposal of the dead is a battlefield necessity not some amorphous BS. The DC govt is inept and unable to handle the fulfillment of promises made by their rhetoric. They want Uncle Sugar to save them from the consequences of their actions and stated policy preferences. Eff them.

Payment is the central issue. If DC wants to pay full freight to use the NG, as TX is doing, they might get another answer. Instead they want the Feds to pay the bill. That’s not going to happen because then TX and AZ for sure will demand the same as will the other States like FL and Bama who are expending State funds to send NG to assist in those States.

Yep, the NG and reserves have made a foolish decision to require the vax and that is hiring retention and recruiting. You want to double down on that sort of jackassery? That seems incredibly short sighted. We have a volunteer force, for the moment anyway, and it would seem to me that in light of the worst recruiting numbers in 40 years that giving folks another reason Not to enlist is counterproductive.

The WH isn’t going to fund the NG for DC, at least not until post midterms and doubtful then. It would set a horrible PR and financial precedent to fund DC and ignore the States who have repeatedly asked for help. Other States with a much bigger illegal population would immediately demand a similar scale commitment which the WH isn’t going to be willing to provide, at least not with them still under State control.

The WH can’t make it federal mission unless they are willing:
        A. To pay for it (they are not)
        B. Get blasted when they restrict the NG to a paperwork /intake mission with handing out some free food and water thrown in. (Don’t want that bad PR on the news for two years running up to 2024)

Think about the outrage if the WH asserted federal control of the TX NG and redirects them away from taking illegals back to the border and has them shuffling paper and filling water buffalos. Images like the gate being unlocked to allow access would be an everyday occurrence with uniformed US Soldiers doing it. People would lose their damn minds over it. Assuming r majorities an impeachment isn’t out of the question. It’s far less headache for the WH and DoD to leave it as is and ignore DC just like they have ignored TX and AZ and other States.

          rutvet83 in reply to CommoChief. | August 23, 2022 at 10:33 pm

Ok, good call, I can see the logic of why the DOD and WH isn’t playing, hadn’t thought about TX and AZ would want in on the money.
I was in Balad 03-04 (and 05-06). To put this delicately, I wasn’t moving dead bodies, that would have been easy. I was an OR Nurse and was moving the “leftovers” from our trauma cases/amputations.

CommoChief in reply to CommoChief. | August 24, 2022 at 9:02 am

No worries. I was at COB Paliwada in the town of Balad v the Base. Gotta love the multiple mortar and rocket attacks back then as they burned through the initial stock they stole. Firing from across the river from that horseshoe shaped Peninsula onto Balad was smart. It was different unit’s AO so getting clearance of fire to hit back v PoO with our artillery was difficult.

Y’all saved a lot of lives. Especially so in 06, we had to medivac our critical casualties to Balad from Ramadi. Far too many. You guys did good work and we knew you had our back, many thanks.

Speaking of vax, there are reports that Canada forced doctors to get a 4th vax, and now there are a lot of unsual doctor deaths, young and old, in otherwise healthy people.

    Gosport in reply to rutvet83. | August 23, 2022 at 10:02 pm

You may notice that she didn’t call for FEMA to support her which is interesting since if it’s a civil emergency they have full time employees trained, paid, and equipped to do just that. They also have the logistics required.

It’s not an emergency and it’s absolutely not something to make an open-ended, ill-defined, activation and deployment of Reserve or Guard forces over.

It’s a power play by Bowser and the Biden Admin isn’t playing.

Can they do that mission during a natural disaster (Katrina) for Americans, but can’t do the mission for an overload of illegals?

You just answered your own question.

The real answer is that the Biden administration is run by people who are following the Bezmenov playbook. They want the US demoralized and driven to a crisis point that they can leverage.

Wow—Greg Abbot governs TWO states!

Great Abbott is a Rino

CommoChief in reply to gonzotx. | August 23, 2022 at 9:59 pm

Gov George Wallace called up the NG to block integration and that force was then placed on federal orders removing them from his control. The moment the WH did so those activated NG were no longer under his authority or command. Period.

Please explain what you want Gov Abbott to do, cite his authority to do so, the probable federal response and what happens next. Many of us have repeatedly asked you to lay this out and you keep refusing to answer.

CommoChief in reply to gonzotx. | August 25, 2022 at 11:07 am

And you keep ignoring the request. Is it because you want Abbott to do something but aren’t sure what that something is?

You wanted them, you stupid heiffer. You declared yourself a sanctuary for the criminals. Enjoy the benefits of having them around, you should be loving this.

I fully support telling her no, but this part stood out to me:

“The DCNG has no specific experience in or training for this kind of mission or unique skills for facility management, feeding, sanitation or ground support”

If that’s true, then what in the world are they doing? I agree they don’t have training for this type of mission but, well, what’s the DCNG actually DO if they don’t know anything about facility management (field 12), food services (92G), sanitation or ground support (field 88, 92, etc)? They aren’t all grunts, intel and interpreters.

Tell her no, that’s not our mission, not making excuses that seem suspicious.

Yeah, as a Vet I’m wondering at that myself. Looks like someone grew a backbone and doesn’t want to get sucked into this goatscrew

End Home Fool, it was a mistake from the outset. Restore control to the Military District of Washington. Interested residents should be offered residency with either Virginia or Maryland for purposes of federal elections. No local elections would be necessary.

Hey..! what about California and Washington State ? Some of their cities have declared themselves immigrant sanctuaries too. Any cities that so declares themselves should get their desired illegal immigrants. It’s only fair.

they don’t need the National Guard. deploy the social workers!!!

Fat_Freddys_Cat | August 24, 2022 at 10:47 am

Bowser’s call for the NG is consistent with the leftist idea that unlimited illegal immigration is great–so long as someone else pays for it. She was cool with sticking little border towns with the tab and now that the problem is coming to her doorstep she wants taxpayers in other states to finance her “sanctuary” policy.

    henrybowman in reply to Fat_Freddys_Cat. | August 24, 2022 at 1:50 pm

As CommoChief posted, “The DC govt is inept and unable to handle the fulfillment of promises made by their rhetoric. They want Uncle Sugar to save them from the consequences of their actions and stated policy preferences.”

But this is SOP for Democrat cities everywhere. NYC wails and gnashes its teeth in the MSM, and gets a hospital ship and ventilators for COVID (that then go unused while they busily kill their grandparents). Blue cities get preference for COVID slush fund grants, then spend it on entirely unrelated sky-pie, or simply graft it away.

Well, Muriel isn’t going to let the ice-cream truck drive past her.

DC can cut benefits for their existing recipients in order to support their new friends. The Federal government has been dropping invaders all over the country. Every state should be offering free rides to DC and other similar places.

Confused here. DC is a sanctuary city as Bowser has repeatedly confirmed but is now objecting to those same people? Almost like she and other sanctimonious liberals with nimby on steroids. Ok over there in flyover but not for ud
