Operation Legend was launched this summer by the Justice Department and named after 4 year-old shooting victim LeGend Taliferro of Missouri.

Its purpose is to help local law enforcement deal with violent crime.

Attorney General William Barr gave an update on the operation this week.

Danielle Wallace reports at FOX News:

Operation Legend: More than 200 charged with federal crimes, 1,000 arrested, AG Barr announcesAt least 217 people have been charged with a federal crime, and more than 1,000 arrests have been made in major metropolitan cities since the Department of Justice launched Operation Legend in July, U.S. Attorney General William Barr announced on Wednesday.Nearly 400 firearms have been seized by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.Barr launched Operation Legend on July 8 as “a sustained, systematic and coordinated law enforcement initiative in which federal law enforcement agencies work in conjunction with state and local law enforcement officials to fight violent crime,” the DOJ said in a release…Barr said the federal government has dispatched to nine U.S. cities more than 1,000 additional agents from the FBI, ATF, Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Marshals Service to work shoulder to shoulder with state and local partners on homicide and assault squads to crack cases….In Kansas City, a total of 43 defendants have been charged with federal crimes. This report from KMBC News shows Barr is not playing around:

Attorney General Barr: Operation LeGend ‘just getting started’ in Kansas City, 43 chargedUnited States Attorney General William Barr traveled to Kansas City, Missouri Wednesday, along with Deputy FBI Director David Bowdich and U.S. attorneys from eight states to provide an update on the progress into Operation LeGend…Barr said Wednesday that since expanding the program into St. Louis, and seven other states, almost 1,500 arrests have been made in the program. In Kansas City, 43 people have been charged with federal crimes as part of the program, 21 of those involving federal gun crimes.“Bringing federal charges is significant, because defendants arrested for violent federal crimes can often be detained before trial – unlike state defendants who are too often released,” Barr said.Barr also said hundreds of firearms have been seized from criminals, including 78 here in Kansas City.“Relatedly, we are using sophisticated federal ballistics investigation technology to pursue more than 500 leads to solve further gun crimes and take even more dangerous criminals off the streets,” Barr said.

All of this is unfolding as Democrats continue discussing the defunding of police at their national convention.

America is truly at a time of choosing.
