Mainstream Media Oddly Silent as Virus Case Numbers Rise in Portland and Seattle

Mainstream Media Oddly Silent as Virus Case Numbers Rise in Portland and Seattle

While national media outlets continue to bash GOP governors, they’ve resisted criticizing west coast Democrat governors over the rising case numbers in their states.

Throughout the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic, the mainstream media has shown an astounding level of duplicity and double standards when reporting on the wisdom of groups of people gathering in an outdoor setting.

For example, in late April and early May, media outlets like CNN were quick to accuse “Reopen” protesters of being threats to public health because they had the audacity to want to get back to work to feed their families and/or to keep from having to permanently close their small businesses.

In addition to the media bashing Reopen marchers, Republican governors have been frequent targets of these same news outlets. Govs. Ron DeSantis (FL), Greg Abbott (TX), and Brian Kemp (GA) have been subjected to much mockery throughout the crisis for not using Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s model for combating the virus in his state. Keep in mind that these criticisms have been lodged at Republican governors as even normally reliably left-wing news outlets like the New York Times have documented how disastrous Cuomo’s response has actually been.

Naturally, all the media outrage over people marching in the streets evaporated in the aftermath of the May 25th death of George Floyd. They’ve encouraged and praised the protesters for gathering on crowded streets in the name of social justice in the middle of a pandemic, while “medical experts” who once sternly warned of the deadly consequences that could result from the Reopen protests also suddenly changed their tunes when the protest message (“Defund the police!”) was more to their liking.

One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is the ridiculing of Republican governors. As case numbers have risen in Texas, Florida, and Georgia, the media’s criticisms of Abbott, DeSantis, and Kemp have gotten worse. But when it comes to the rising numbers out of the Gov. Gavin Newsom-run state of California, the media’s criticisms have been practically non-existent for some reason (hmm – wonder what that could be?).

The same situation holds true with the developing situations in both Oregon and Washington state. Wuhan Coronavirus case numbers have been rising in Democrat-run cities like Portland and Seattle, which have been hotbeds of social unrest, protests, and Antifa-style anarchy for weeks now. Yet media critics of Republican governors have not seen fit to mention – much less criticize – the rising case numbers coming from those areas.

I created a Twitter thread earlier today which included graphics from the New York Times’s Oregon and Washington state tracking pages for reference:

Media reports about how rising case numbers in Democrat-run protest cities and states allegedly didn’t have anything to do with the marches were considered highly questionable because some states, like New York, told contact tracers not to ask people who tested positive if they had recently attended a protest.

Health officials in both Washington state and Oregon have not said protests contributed to the rising case numbers. Instead, they’re claiming they are the result of “social gatherings,” which sounds like “protests” in my book.

The reasons why national media critics are treating Democrat governors differently on this issue than they are Republican governors should be obvious to anyone reading this.

This is yet another example of how the mainstream press sometimes tells us who they are not by what they do report, but by what they don’t.

New York City had a huge number of cases in the earlier spring. Given the possibility that as much as half the population of NYC has already been exposed to the disease and is no longer capable of spreading it, they could be well on the way to a limited herd immunity.

The graphs for Portland and Seattle are startling. The Democrats are the party of disease, depression and racial conflict.

Except I read that researchers are finding that immunity to the Wuhan virus isn’t permanent and antibody levels fall in some patients after just three months. Which means that people lose immunity and can be infected again. Just like the seasonal flu every year.

So much for the much over-hyped “herd immunity” to this disease.

Yes, flattening the curve and limited immunity will increase the available sanctuary bodies for viral migration, thus normalizing viral viability and excess deaths. Perhaps Cuomo had the right idea with Planned Parent, but instead of choosing the most vulnerable demographic, we could isolate them (e.g. social distancing, 6ft, perchance 3m) to reduce exposure.

Antibodies are not the only immunity mechanism.

This is another misrepresentation brought to you by the “keep the panic going” media. Antibodies don’t stick around very long in the blood following an illness. ANY illness. Memory is formed in the T-cells and when the virus shows up again, antibodies are produced before it has a chance to multiply and cause disease.

If there’s no “herd immunity” then there doesn’t seem to be much point in a vaccine either, because you’d have to get a shot again, and again, and again, and again….

Wonderful news for Big Pharma, I’m sure.

The “seasonal flu” changes every season and THAT is the reason why they recommend that you get a flu shot every year. Every year, right before flu season, health officials release two things: one, a prediction of how the upcoming flu season will transpire, and two, what changes have occurred between last year’s flu and this years.

The Wuhan virus has already mutated into a strain more easily transmitted than the original strain. The good news is that its fatality rate is no different from or less than the original virus.

As for herd immunity, a few researchers have said that half of the US population may have already had the virus and either never developed symptoms or that they were mild and viewed as being those of the common cold. Furthermore, they have found that many people also developed cross immunity to the Wuhan virus by either having the seasonal flu in the past and/or taken flu shots.

The way that both the number of cases and incidents of deaths fro the virus have been reported recently are spurious, to say the least. The CDC decided that they would lump together both the tests for the live virus AND the tests for antibodies resulting from prior exposure to the virus. This has given the impression that COVID-19 cases have “spiked” due to governors reopening their states.

Death counts have also been falsely reported in many areas, especially in Florida. For example, in Palm Beach County, people killed in auto accidents were counted as COVID deaths if their autopsy revealed the presence of either the virus or antibodies to it. Deaths by other causes were also lumped in with COVID counts for the same reasons.

However, its non-debatable that the rise in COVID cases in the cities that saw the heaviest concentration of people engaged in protesting and rioting were due to those factors. Yet the mainstream media acts as if the virus is a sentient being able to distinguish between people gathering to protest and people gathering to worship or swim in the ocean.

I tihkn we have no choice but to destroy the mainstream media by any means possible.

Don’t rule out Dem governors putting their thumb on the scale to increase the case count in order to get the 600 UI benefits extended. They want these numbers high.

I get the point of this post.

It seems like the reality is closer to mitigations (distancing, masks, closures, travel restrictions) are not very effective and the virus does what it does. Maybe the curve can be bent, but it can’t be broken.

Evidence is that the shapes of the curves in various states – I just checked NJ, AZ, IL, TX – and countries – I checked Sweden, UK, Spain, Italy – whether it’s positive tests, hospitalizations, or deaths, are all roughly the same, offset in time.

This indicates regional outbreaks, seeded by an as yet unknown process. Once it is going, it goes for around two months, and it runs its course. Then the disease persists at a baseline endemic level.

That is, I think, closer to the real story that is not being told, or rather has been predicted by Ioannidis, Levitt, Wittkowski, and maybe others, and suppressed.

Is a democratic form (e.g. mob) of government a civil rights violation?

The more compact term for what the media are doing is LYING.

Mainstream Media Oddly Silent

I’d like to get a look at how it is the MSM coordinates their talking points, their silence, etc. Who pulls their strings and how.

It was stunning how quickly the MSM turned from calling it the Wuhan virus to Covid once Trump called it the Wuhan virus and then in near unison the MSM called Trump “racist” for what they also did just days before.

Milhouse in reply to MrE. | July 26, 2020 at 11:37 pm

That wasn’t because of Trump, that was because the WHO announced the “official” name, and they all jumped to use it. Continuing to use the old “unofficial” name, that didn’t have the WHO’s approval, would be more than racist, it would be ignorant. Only a boor like Trump would stop and ask who the hell make the WHO the boss of what we call things.

And the WHO adopted its policy of not naming diseases after places about five years ago. So it wasn’t done just to whitewash China this time. Which is all very well, but why should we care?

henrybowman in reply to MrE. | July 27, 2020 at 7:24 pm

A liberal colleague of mine posted about the vaccine program that “this rushed schedule is worrying considering that the presidential adminstration overseeing this process cares more about quick political points than human well being.” I responded, “Well, of course, it goes without saying that this presidential administration will do the wrong thing. If he speeds up the program, he’s putting us all at risk; if he slows it down, he’s being obstructionist; if he does nothing either way, he’s showing a total lack of leadership.”

As to how the MSM coordinates their talking points, have you seen this?

So, how many actual cases of COVID infection have there been? How many actual COVID deaths have there been? More and more evidence keeps surfacing that the number of infections are being horribly padded in certain places for political gain. Reports are surfacing oif people being declared as having tested positive for COVID who were never tested. Some labs are reporting NO negative test result. To explain the huge discrepancy between the number of people allegedly testing positive for COVID and the number of people with symptoms, the medical community would have us believe that 90% of those infected are asymptomatic. Really? Then we have the number of deaths attributed to COVID. We have seen evidence of people who most likely died from other medical conditions being listed as COVID deaths, including trauma from motor vehicle accidents. The CDC guideline for classifying a death as being due to COVID do not even require a confirming test. It can be done based solely upon a doctor’s “suspicion” that COVID was a factor. How many deaths, having nothing to do with COVID, have been misclassified. And, if infection and death rates have been misclassified to make the disease seem far more dangerous than it is, why can the numbers be changed toi make it look less severe, in certain places, either by reporting the rtaes accurately or suppressing them?

The problem is that all of this data is being falsified for political purposes. So, we have absolutely NO idea what the actual rate iof infection or death is. It is all worthless and it is nothing more than a political scam. Once you embrace that concept, everything makes sense.

Well, I suppose that rules out tear gas, pepper spray, and spray paint as effective measures for controlling the spread of COVID-19.

I don’t shed tears for dead Marxist’s.

The ‘mainstream’ media is ‘oddly’ aligned with the Communist Chinese, so their ‘silence’ and their treason isn’t so odd.
