While you were focused on the pandemic, it was revealed the FBI knew the Steele Dossier contained Russian disinformation

Rather than colluding with the Russians, which the Mueller Report conclusively rejected, Trump was the victim of a Russian disinformation campaign exploited and promoted by Democrats, the media, and the FBI.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/02/05/clinton-associates-fed-information-to-trump-dossier-author-steele-memo-says.html

In one of the least surprising, yet most important, developments in the years-long Russia-collusion hoax, a recently declassified portion of the DOJ Inspector General’s Report on the FBI investigation of the Trump campaign has revealed that Trump was the target of a Russian disinformation campaign. And the FBI knew it.

So rather than colluding with the Russians, which the Mueller Report conclusively rejected, Trump was the victim of a Russian disinformation campaign exploited and promoted by Democrats, the media, and the FBI.

The revelation concerns the so-called Steele Dossier, a document commissioned by the Hillary Clinton campaing and the Democratic National Committee. The Dossier, containing allegations that Trump was compromised, turbo-charged the FBI investigation of the campaign and, after it was published by Buzzfeed, stoked anti-Trump derangement at MSNBC and elsewhere.

Yet it’s now revealed that the FBI knew at least no later than 2017 that much of the dossier was Russian disinformation.

The implications are staggering. Senator Ron Johnson, who fought to have the information declassified, writes in The Wall Street Journal, Russian Disinformation Fed the FBI’s Trump Investigation:

Declassified footnotes to a Justice Department inspector general report show that the Federal Bureau of Investigation team investigating members of the Trump campaign received classified reports in 2017 identifying key pieces of the Steele dossier as products of a Russian disinformation campaign. This might be only the tip of the iceberg because other recently declassified information demonstrates that even more disinformation may have been planted in Christopher Steele’s reporting.

Let that sink in. The FBI knew that at least some of its evidence against the Trump campaign, and maybe more, was likely part of a Russian disinformation campaign—evidence from a source that was “central and essential” for getting the first FISA warrant. It isn’t clear what if anything the FBI did to determine whether their investigation was based in substantial part on Russian disinformation.

Yet the FBI assistant director in charge of the investigation, Bill Priestap, told the inspector general that as of May 2017 (when Robert Mueller took over as special counsel), the FBI “didn’t have any indication whatsoever” that their evidence was part of a Russian disinformation campaign….

The FBI team’s handling of these intelligence reports seems consistent with how it ran the entire investigation. From the opening of the investigation, the FBI team kept accumulating exculpatory information. Yet rather than wind the investigation down, they ramped it up. Minimally intrusive open-source searches became Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants and confidential human sources targeting campaign staffers.

Then it got worse. The FBI team excluded exculpatory information from its FISA application; it ignored exculpatory evidence provided by another U.S. government agency; and, when that later became an issue, an FBI attorney doctored an email to cover it up. Given all that, it’s not surprising that the FBI, on learning their evidence was the product of a Russian disinformation campaign, simply shrugged it off.

Catherine Herridge reports at CBS News:

The dossier was used, in part, by FBI investigators to secure four surveillance warrants for Page.

Footnote 350 in the IG report addresses the FBI’s knowledge of Russian contacts with Steele and the potential for disinformation. Steele had “frequent contacts with representatives for multiple Russian oligarchs, we identified reporting the Crossfire Hurricane team received from (redacted) indicating the potential for Russian disinformation influencing Steele’s election reporting.”

The footnote also indicates that warnings to the FBI’s Russia probe became more pronounced over time.

“The (redacted) stated that it did not have high confidence in this subset of Steele’s reporting and assessed that the referenced subset was part of a Russian disinformation campaign to denigrate US foreign relations.”

Footnote 302 relates to the FBI’s efforts to verify information contained in the Steele dossier, commissioned by the DNC through opposition research firm Fusion GPS.

“According to a document circulated among Crossfire Hurricane team members and supervisors in early October 2016, Person 1 had historical contact with persons and entities suspected of being linked to RIS (Russian Intel)……In addition, in late December 2016, Department Attorney Bruce Ohr told SSA 1 that he had met with Glenn Simpson (Fusion GPS) and that Simpson had assessed that Person 1 was a RIS (Russian intel) officer who was central in connecting Trump to Russia.”

The third footnote also relates to the Steele source.

Assistant Attorney General Stephen E. Boyd, in a letter to Grassley and Johnson, wrote that the “fourth and final footnote presents unique and significant concerns. Specifically, the redacted information refers to information received by a member of the Crossfire Hurricane team regarding possible previous attempts by a foreign government to penetrate and research a company or individuals associated with Christopher Steele.”

The media and Democrats were Russian dupes, people who helped the Russians consummate the disinformation campaign by relentlessly pushing the information in an attempt to remove Trump. They were useful idiots at best, willing participants at worst.

All of this, which would have been known to Attorney General Bill Barr, likely contributed to his statement recently that the Russia-Collusion Investigation Into Trump’s Campaign Was ‘One of the Greatest Travesties in American History’.

Prosecutor John Durham has a criminal investigation underway, and is on record rejecting the Inspector General’s conclusion that the launch of the investigation into the Trump campaign was justified.

Only a perp walk of many defendants will begin to bring justice to this matter.

Yes considering DEM MSM FIB were colluding with our enemies.

DEMS always self-project what they are doing.

Why is Hillary Clinton getting a pass? She commissioned the report, funded the report, had her people write portions of the report, worked to get the news media to spread the report, the lied, hid, and obfuscated as much about the report as possible.

iconotastic in reply to Dick. | April 12, 2020 at 12:08 pm

I have wondered the same thing for years now. Hillary Clinton is the candidate who provably colluded with Russia to affect the election (and afterward). How can she not have been investigated? From a purely legal perspective, not a corrupt power perspective of course.

    Paul in reply to Gersh204. | April 12, 2020 at 9:54 am

Perp walk? I’m thinking of a six foot drop from a gallows with a snap of the neck at the end of the rope.

What they did was nothing short of treason and should be dealt with accordingly.

I would rephrase: Turns out, it wasn’t Trump or his campaign that colluded with the Russians, it was the FBI.

Don’t forget the Democrats and the Hillary campaign.

puhiawa in reply to Ann in L.A.. | April 12, 2020 at 12:06 am

And paid the Russians to say what the FBI wanted. BTW, how many actual Russians did the FBI interview…where are the records? Why are there no records of the dossier confirmation investigation? …
Where are Lindsey Grahams hearings he promised for 2 years?
We are being hubered again. I know it when I see it.
Graham, Grassley, etc. are now part of the cover up. Why? Because they know it totally compromises the CIA/DOJ/FBI/IRS/the Federal Courts including Roberts himself, and the Presidency. And they are terrified.

This is the Deep State Praetorian Guard attempting to overthrow the duly elected government. The overthrow attempt failed, this time, but there is absolutely no indication that anyone will be sanctioned, punished, or restrained in any way for the attempt. Or that anything will be done to prevent the next attempt, or the next.

The rules of the game are in the midst of changing. Somebody is not going to like the new rules.

“Rep. Jim Jordan @Jim_Jordan
The FBI got played—the Steele Dossier was Russian disinformation.”

I do not buy this, evidence shows otherwise. I demand criminal prosecutions. This was misconduct under color of law. Those abusing their position deserve jail time.

texansamurai | April 11, 2020 at 9:41 pm

does president trump have the authority(chief executive, etc.) to shut down the fbi ? completely–to close down the bureau entirely?

puhiawa in reply to texansamurai. | April 11, 2020 at 10:51 pm

No. But he can order a stand down. For example, he could prohibit “unmaskings” or FISA warrants….warrants with a 90% illegal rate. Don’t tell me the FISA court is not also corrupt.

Even we knew that.
Many months ago.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Blah, blah, blah.

It’s all just vaudeville, and we’ll see that come back before we see any of the perps frog-marched up the 13 steps.

So to speak.

Nelly ohr worked for global gps as opp researcher against djt and she and hubby doj big shot Bruce personal friend s of Steele and Simpson also her boss. She gave dossier to Bruce who gave it to Comey. Supposedly Bruce our told jimbo that he Comey should verify dossier cause info in it real shaky. More than likely Comey was immediate on horn to jarret holder and maybe bite me or even Barry. Don’t think verification was much of fbi priority at that point.

So now it comes out that fbi messed with fisa. Seems Like pieces should have Been assembled way sooner.

For those who were paying attention, this whole farce did have one effect – it totally destroyed any remaining credibility that the Democrats, the media and the FBI may have had.

This is a hoax.
Complete BS. Russia? You mean like Simpski, Ohrkov, Klintonski, and Steelokman? Their were NO agents of the Russian government involved. Such Russians as there were , were paid plants or paid consults simply to create a paper trail. The only Russian actually arrested was charged with a totally unrelated, idiotic matter and was likely innocent of that also.
This is misdirection, the footnotes planted, to create an aura of innocence and anyone who believes otherwise has never dealt with white collar crime. Never. This is amateur.

This isn’t ‘revealed’. We’ve known for literally years.

And the Republican ‘conservative’ establishment pussies have done nothing.

Wray is the first one that needs to go. Until and unless he gets fired NOBODY will be held accountable.

We’re years past the point of put up or shut up from the establishment RINOs.

puhiawa in reply to Olinser. | April 11, 2020 at 10:49 pm

Wray is corrupt. Pure and simple. Corrupt. An accessory after the fact and personally involved in destroying evidence. He needs to be charged.

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to Olinser. | April 12, 2020 at 12:30 am

Republican ‘conservative’ establishment pussies have done nothing……

Because they are as dirty as Joe Biden and Barrack Hussein Obama.

A few people need to hang.

This is sedition, especially since it was used even after Trump was elected. It was the center piece of the Herr Mueller investigation, which from day one they knew it to be a set up. Comey, Brennan, Obama, Hillary, McCabe, Rosenstein, Strzok, Page, Rice, Lynch all knew about it.

Obama had it in for Flynn as he knew too much, so he had to be set up (as has come out in his trial, but the judge and DOJ have played games with).

The impeachment was because of Ukraine and the efforts used through there to hide the DNC leaked emails and payment offs through the corrupt government there to provide the Russian links.

I don’t have great faith in Barr. Till there are indictments made, this will continue to feed the beast of the left. Schiff and Pelosi had to be involved with a good portion of this as well.

This makes Watergate look like Boy Scout Camp pranks.

I’d love to hear why this isn’t a genuine Watergate-like scandal

That’s an easy one. Because nobody is being prosecuted. Only news junkies will even notice this stuff if it looks like all of the perps will skate. The press will downplay, ignore, or “interpret” any mere evidence. The only thing it can’t ignore is a “trial of the century” scenario.

But this push for the old “the devil Russians made them do it” angle is bizarre. First the D’rats were trying to claim that DJT was a Russian dupe, now we’re supposed to start believing that our homegrown American traitors are instead. Occam’s Razor tells up that the crooked D’rats don’t need any foreign assistance to behave like criminals.

Trump’s greatest virtue is that instead of rolling over and squealing submission when he’s challenged, he holds his course and he fights to maintain it. And this is an occasion which desperately calls for it. A large number of people and several major institutions are gangrenous and simply have to go. Most of the federal government is superfluous. That doesn’t mean it all has to go. But some of the decayed stuff really should, and the sooner the better.

    notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to tom_swift. | April 12, 2020 at 12:35 am

I’d say about 90 percent needs to go.

Because too many important people were, and continue to be, deeply involved. It’s the “there but for the grace of God” problem. Who is going to rat on whom first? As we’ve seen so many times, anyone who shows the courage to call these people out get their lives destroyed. Even their families’ lives.

It’s going to take a Nuremberg-type trial to coral all of the criminals and bring them to justice. Hopefully, there will be hangings if/when that happens. Don’t hold your breath. A bipartisan Congress just recently passed the “Death to the US Constitution Act” unanimously, without reading it, on voice vote, without debate nor public review with everyone (including most people on this site) celebrating.

“”So this is how liberty dies… with thunderous applause.”

What was the point of the Tea Party and “molon labe” and the rest of the tough talk? We simply rolled over and said “thank you!” We can’t even push back against the Wuhan flu economic shutdown without being slapped down! Trump NEEDS us to be pushing back if he is going to force the governors to restart the economy. Being sheeple is NOT helping Trump nor us.

I’d like to give all the major players (Brennan, Comey, McCabe, Rosenstien, Strozk, Page, Ohr) the benefit of the doubt and believe that they honestly thought Trump or his campaign were colluding with Russia. But I come back to one question; how did so many educated, intelligent, experienced professionals not ask the simplest of questions, can we verify any of this? Since they clearly never asked that question, I’m left with doubting the honesty of their motives.

    Katy L. Stamper in reply to WillS68. | April 12, 2020 at 8:03 am

    Sorry, Will, that doesn’t work.

It was all a planned set up. It’s obvious.

So discard that “benefit of the doubt” stuff. That horse galloped off a very, very long time ago.

    Milhouse in reply to WillS68. | April 12, 2020 at 5:54 pm

Even if they did think that, it’s not a crime. And once Trump was president, they were his employees, and owed him loyalty, which means they had a duty to be frank with him.

we now know the real reason why Biden’s mental health has been in free fall. He can claim a memory loss if he is ever called to testify about what he knew.

I left a comment to an article at Breitbart in March 2018:

Hold on a cotton-picking minute here. Imagine Trump was colluding with the Russians such that both would benefit by the collusion (the Russians certainly wouldn’t help Trump win the election for nothing). Under such circumstances, does anyone seriously believe that at the same time FSB officials were leaking information that could damage Trump? This is simply not credible. An FSB source leaking information that could upset a Trump/Putin collusion deal would be risking his life. He would also be working against the strategic interests of Russia (for whatever benefit Putin would get from the collusion), and this is similarly not credible. Nobody in the FSB would behave this way. It would be treason.

My conclusion was that the contents of the dossier were either DNC fabrications laundered through various sources to make it appear as if it came from Russian intel sourcs (or at least couldn’t be traced back to the DNC, Russian disinformation, or a combination of the two.

JackinSilverSpring | April 12, 2020 at 8:39 am

The weasel Rod Rosenstein had to have known all this when he authorized the Mueller investigation. Why isn’t he being perped walked?

At what point does it become treason?

A long, long time ago. What we need is an Attorney General with enough spine to prosecute.

Milhouse in reply to Guy Gadbouis. | April 12, 2020 at 6:01 pm

At no point does this come anywhere close to treason. Even if they had deliberately and explicitly conspired to cook up a case against the president that would lead to his impeachment and removal. Even if they’d included Pelosi, Schiff, and Schumer in their scheme from the beginning. None of this would have involved adherence to an enemy of the USA, so by definition it could not possibly be treason.

Our founders explicitly decided that, unlike in a monarchy where treason is against the king’s person, in the republic they were founding it would be only against the united states themselves, and even a plot to assassinate the president would not be treason, let alone a plot to have him removed by legal means.

“The media and Democrats were Russian dupes…”

Nope.
They were willing participants.

“Only news junkies will even notice this stuff” B-but I read my local Gannett newspaper this morning, and it had not a word on any of this! Therefore it can’t be as described, else they’d report it. Wouldn’t they?

(So, what was in it? Mostly item-after-item claiming Republicans put voters at risk for their lives! By not supporting Wisconsin’s Governor Evers day-before-election-day turnaround from a formerly consistent “I can’t delay the election, and I wouldn’t even if I could” to “I hereby order this election delayed until June.” Only to be blocked by the WI Supreme Court.

(The Gov. probably could have obtained the co-operation of Republicans if he’d asked for the delay before early voting started, three weeks prior to election day. But demanding a delay on election-eve was more than many would tolerate, especially when the likely reason was Democrats becaming increasingly uneasy at the high numbers of absentee ballots coming in from the more Republican-leaning parts of the state.)

Besides, didn’t they get the memo? Electoion process shenanigans are for our mobilized masses to exploit … because they know they’re coming, have training & tools, and have no shame. If those scummy Walmart people figure out the new way, anyway, what’s the point?

The Screaming D’s have overplayed their hand again. Friday night doc dumps are to get the stuff out there, with no attention.

Leaking out complicated details backs yr accusers into a choice between confusing people into indifference, or leaving part of their case unsupported.

If people already aren’t paying attention, when they come back to notice what was dripped out, they get to get surprised then, at a time of their choosing, not the conspirators.

With The Orange Crush, The Screaming D’s have been holding the stage while the pieces leak out: Russia, Russia, Russia! Impeachmentpalooza! and now Everybody’s Kund Flu Fighting.

The God-Emperor, who is the spectacle of the empire, can reorient attention to the case when the whole thing is dropped. Meanwhile, the silly people are practicing attrition warfare on each other.

Will someone wake Bill Barr up from his nap?
