Greta Thunberg’s rally in Canada met by energy worker counter-protests

Greta Thunberg’s rally in Canada met by energy worker counter-protests

Some Canadians are also tired of environmental justice scolds

When Extinction Rebellion began their global “climate crisis” protests over a week ago, they may have truly inspired citizens to get involved.

Just not in the way they expected.

First, we had Londoners bringing a rapid end to the underground train demonstrations. Then, there are the continuing protests by the Dutch farmers, as their government wants to cut both nitrogen and carbon emissions.

Now, child climate alarmist Greta Thunberg’s climate change rally has been crashed by counter-protest led by truck convoy of oil and gas workers in Canada.

Greta Thunberg joined thousands of protesters marching in Canada’s energy heartland Alberta yesterday as a smaller counter-rally led by a truck convoy of oil and gas workers also converged on the provincial capital Edmonton.

A crowd of several thousand led by indigenous drummers with students, young people and families marched slowly from a downtown intersection towards the Alberta legislature building.

…’We are doing this because our future is at stake,’ Thunberg told the crowd.

‘We will not be bystanders. We are doing this because we want the people in power to unite behind science.

But a counter-protester said: ‘We care for the environment, of course we do. What they need to understand is that we’re hurting and we also need to care about Alberta jobs.’

The honking horns of big rig trucks blared from a nearby thoroughfare, where vehicles emblazoned with ‘We love Canada energy’ signs were driving up and down.

‘When they charged their iPhones last night, that power came from this plant,’ he said, pointing to the former coal-fired Keephills power plant near Edmonton that was being converted to natural gas.

‘Albertans and Canadians are practical people,’ he said. ‘They like real world solutions. Calling for the end of the modern industrial economy, advocating to put millions of people out of work… is not a real world solution.’

The counter-protesters say that they are tired of celebrities.

Glen Carritt, who organized the United We Roll convoy that travelled to Ottawa in February, said a similar convoy will start in Red Deer, Alta., on Friday morning and make its way to Edmonton.

Carritt said the trucks are expected to arrive at the legislature at noon MT, when a climate rally is to begin with Thunberg, 16, who founded the Fridays For Future climate strikes that have galvanized young people around the world.

He said Albertans in the oil and gas sector are frustrated with celebrities visiting the province and telling them how to run their business.

“We in the province of Alberta are tired of celebrities coming into our province and trying to tell us how to run our oil and gas sector,” read a post on the United We Roll Facebook page.

“I am asking everyone connected to the oil and gas industry to come out in unity to show Greta we do not need her yelling at us.”

It seems many Canadians are tired of environmental justice scolds and biased media.

The energy industry is a vital component of the Canadian economy, a fact that a 16-year old Swede may not appreciate.

Many energy sector workers and the Alberta government feel the oil sands, scorned by environmentalists for their high carbon emissions intensity, have been unfairly targeted and say the sector is making progress cutting greenhouse gas output.

A 2018 study by Stanford University researchers ranked the Canadian oil industry’s upstream emissions as the fourth most carbon-heavy in the world.

The energy sector provides 150,000 direct jobs in Alberta and contributes more than C$71 billion ($54.1 billion) annually to the gross domestic product of Canada, the world’s fourth-largest oil and gas producer.

I wish the Canadians much luck, and better national leadership, in the future. It will be interesting to see where the next climate change counter protests will occur.

GOOD!

RE: “The counter-protesters say that they are tired of celebrities.”

Oh, and Greta is considered an “adult” by the government of Sweden and most of the EU.

She is almost 17 and in Sweden the age of consent is 15.

Mucking around in another countries politics just before an election? Go home and shut up until you are out of training bras and braces.

    But…but…but….

Obama butted into Canada’s Election already – and it’s not his first time!

Why is it she never talks about the Milankovitch cycle? What energy source will continue building the world economy?? NUke is the only one close about 1/3 of Norway and over 70% of France already get their power that way. That doesn’t count all the fuel requirements of trucks., trains planes and autos.
Poor brainwashed Twerp

We are doing this because we want the people in power to unite behind science.

No need to cede such a ridiculous claim. This “science” remains a cult.

One dailymail photo of the protesters shows a placard held by climate action Marxists stating “say yes to science” alongside groups of Indians holding sacred earth placards emblazoned with thunderbird and moose spiritual iconography/slogans pointing to shamanistic animism.

All of it absurd. Two wholly disparate groups of people. And most of them getting used by powerful men.

The fat Indian girls in the photo want a return to the old ways? Because the old ways had the women doing all the hard chores while the men sat around a fire fashioning arrow points and fletching hafts and talking about hunting. There was no #womenstrong arguments or protests. The women did as they were told.

During their expedition Lewis and Clark noted how most Indian women were no better off than slaves.

but but Iroquois women were strong vibrant members of their civilized tribes. Are not all Indian tribes like the Iroquois? That is what we are told

The appropriate reponse to Greta is “sod off you little pest”. Go home to Sweden.

I clicked on the post within the article that claims 10 K of environmentalist. At the end of this article it said this:

“Mr. Notley was killed in a commercial plane crash while flying from Edmonton to Grande Prairie to spend the weekend in his Spirit River-Fairview constituency.”

Glad to know those environmentalist have to fly around in planes. These people are totally disconnected from reality.

Greta Thunberg suffers from autism, yet the “woke” Left puts her up as the epitome of rationality with regard to AGW/Climate Change/whatever the catch phrase is this week. That should tell us all we need to know. I have personal contact with two autistic children just a bit older than Greta Thunberg and treating her like this is both child abuse and insanity.

What about the 500 SCIENTISTS that sent a letter saying we aren’t being damaged by gloBULL warming? Accept the science little girl and go back to school and take some How To Stop Being A Little Bitch classes.

Climate azzholes get arrested at a burger joint. I really wanted to see the store owner smash that megaphone back into his mouth and break out some teeth.

Usually a female that miserable and angry is past middle age. Image that sate of mind at 16?

Who abused the hell out her?

Say, you left out our amazing Oregon protest this summer by lumber and timber men, truckers and farmers. they drove to Salem to protest the governor’s attempt to ram through a climate change initiative, and it was greatly successful.

Too Good not to pass along.

Yet another analogy, in the 1960s the then climate nazis predicted the next disaster would be the ice age which was already advancing upon us. By the 1990s vast areas in the northern latitudes would be frozen solid.

The 1990s came and went, and there was no disaster.

Have you noticed that as each chapter of Project Fear opens, and then closes, virtually nothing predicted by the Elites in power ever comes to pass. Have you also noticed how in the closing of each succeeding chapter, they have managed to remove ever more freedom, money, and sovereignty from those they rule.

Isn’t that amazing?

Destruction of the hoi-polloi by design.
