Poll Confirms Elizabeth Warren’s DNA test backfired on her, big league

Poll Confirms Elizabeth Warren’s DNA test backfired on her, big league

Warren’s stunt pushed her Native American problem deeper into voters’ minds, and they didn’t like what they heard.

Almost no one other than Elizabeth Warren thought her DNA test publicity rollout through The Boston Globe was a smart move.

As we have documented here, Warren has been excoriated by Democrats for pulling this stunt right before the midterms, and by the Cherokee Nation for insulting them and their sovereignty.

Even strong Warren supporters can’t believe she pulled this:

… I have liked Elizabeth Warren for a long time, but this is a massive political liability. She is wrong on this, she doesn’t seem to know she is wrong, she refuses to apologize, and she continues to make it worse. I don’t know why, instead of suggesting that this is a baseless smear, she can’t just say clearly and definitively that she shouldn’t have spent years publicly touting her Native ancestry. This stupid issue would dominate any contest with Donald Trump. It would never end. It would prevent us from ever actually discussing any serious issues. It would be like the goddamn email scandal all over again. And Warren has shown that she would handle it badly. At this point, I do not see how she can be a serious presidential contender.

Caitlin Flanagan at The Atlantic added to the chorus from a distinctly leftie point of view:

And at some point she decided that the thing to do was to have a DNA test and make the results public, which has only proved that Trump can push sensible people past the point of madness. Putting one’s genetic information into the public conversation about one’s fitness for office is a bizarre idea. Moreover, her insistence that it would offer definitive proof of something her supporters believe in was tone-deaf. Doesn’t Warren realize that race is a social construct and whiteness is an idea? Doesn’t she know that the science of genetics is often used as a tool of the oppressor, that you cannot destroy the master’s house with the master’s tools?

Is there evidence that all these anecdotes have hurt Warren with the masses?

Politico reports on a newly released Politico/Morning Consult poll (emphasis added):

Roughly half of voters — 49 percent — say Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s decision to release the results of a DNA test indicating she has some Native American ancestry makes no difference in their view of her, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll….

Forty percent of voters surveyed nationally said the test’s release shifted their view in some way — 16 percent said it made their impression of Warren more favorable, while 24 percent said they view her less favorably.

Note the highlighted language. It’s in the middle of a fairly long Politico post, headline of which makes it seem as if there was no big negative fallout. But as Daily Mail U.S. Political Editor David Martosko tweeted, Politico buried the lede:

Buried lede: 24% say Elizabeth Warren’s DNA test exercise made them think less favorably of her. Just 16% say it made them view her more favorably.

Deeper down in the polling data is more bad news for Warren. As I previously noted, the controversy over the DNA rollout has ensured that her Native American problem is more widely known (emphasis added):

Warren shared her DNA test with the Boston Globe last week, and the story quickly dominated national headlines. Nearly two-thirds (61 percent) of those polled said they had seen a significant amount of coverage about Warren’s DNA test — 33 percent of registers voters said they’d seen, read, or heard “a lot” about its release, and 28 percent said they’d seen “some” information about it. Only 15 percent of voters said they’d seen “not much” about the test, and 23 percent said they heard “nothing at all” about it.

As for Warren’s decision to list herself as a racial minority in the Association of American Law Schools Director of Law Teachers, a plurality (45 percent) of those surveyed said they agreed it was “inappropriate” for her to do. Twenty percent of registered voters polled said it was appropriate, and 35 percent said they did not know or have an opinion. Broken down by party, 61 percent of Republicans surveyed said Warren’s decision was inappropriate, while 25 percent of Democrats said the same. In contrast, 34 percent of Democrats said the decision was appropriate, and only 9 percent of Republicans agreed.

Michael Graham, who is based in Massachusetts, observed that MA Dems Are Asking: What’s Wrong With Liz Warren?

… in her home state of Massachusetts, there’s a quiet conversation among Democrats: Is Sen. Elizabeth Warren ready for POTUS prime time?

“I love Liz Warren, love her to pieces—but I really hope she doesn’t run,” a Bay State Democratic consultant told InsideSources. Like nearly every Democrat we spoke to, this consultant was adamant about not going on the record. And they all had a similar story to tell: Massachusetts Democrats are dubious about Liz Warren as a 2020 presidential campaign, and her performance the the past few weeks have only increased those doubts.

“A number of Democrats have told me they hope that she’s not running for president, just making some noise to distract Trump,” a longtime Massachusetts progressive activist tells InsideSources….

What’s most disconcerting for Democratic operatives watching Warren is that she appears to believe that her release of her DNA data regarding her alleged Native American heritage was a win.

“She should have known she can’t beat Trump on that issue. He’s going to go after her no matter what,” a Massachusetts Democratic strategist told NHJournal. “All she did with the DNA test was raise questions, not answer them.” …

And, once again, the only person who doesn’t appear to grasp that fact is Liz Warren, who is still trumpeting her 0.09 Native American gene match as a political victory. By doing so, she’s feeding fears that she’s not ready for POTUS prime time that previously existed.

In all, Warren’s DNA rollout backfired on her.

Big league.

however it’s likely #Fauxahontas Fraud Will Not Matter to Massachusetts’ Democrat Voters because Democrats Voted a Murderer Ted Kennedy to Senate..

So you won’t vote for a liar or a grifter? ‘nough said.

Hey FartBox…may I call you FartBox, it just seems so discriptive… Anyway FartBox, why did you name yourself EnquiringMind? It seems you’re not inquiring about anything. Either ‘FartBox’ or ‘BleedingRoids’ would have been much more descriptive of your true personality as a troll. Also, as a really effective troll you need to be a little more subtle.

I am curious how you knew who I was referring to. If only the truth did hurt, the most powerful grifter in the world would be standing on a soap box in the middle of erehwon.

Well, I knew who you were referring to! Like most on the Left you are easily identified by you animus and Irrational Hatred of The President of the United States of America!

EnquiringMind in reply to EnquiringMind. | October 25, 2018 at 4:12 pm

@carabec The point is that you know who is a liar and a grifter.

I have quite rational reasons for my feelings about him. He is making America weak. He is lazy, vain, thin-skinned and greedy. If you believe he is a self-made man, you are beyond stupid. If that lie isn’t manifestly worse than anything that Warren has claimed about her background, then I am not sure what is.

I thought you were referring to hillary clinton.

EnquiringMind in reply to EnquiringMind. | October 25, 2018 at 8:10 pm

          Back at you.

That’s how I think of her – the liar. She and Slick Willie have been grifters their entire marriage. I have family living in AR. They lived through the Clinton governorship.

Not everyone thinks like you do.

Live by identity politics, die by identity politics.

Warren’s never struck me as intelligent. That’s why she had to rely on a scam to get ahead in academia, and why she goofed with her DNA performance.

She’s the classic Very Credentialed Idiot.

She has all kinds of schooling and certificates and qualifications, and not one ounce of actual common sense or critical thinking skills.

EnquiringMind in reply to Olinser. | October 24, 2018 at 8:31 pm

Sort of like a man who claims he is qualified to be President because he is a self-made billionaire, but in reality he received $400,000,000 from his daddy.

Sort of like a man who bankrupted a casino business and was bailed out by his daddy, but claims he is a brilliant businessman. I wouldn’t vote for a liar like that, either.

I’m guessing that you don’t think of yourself as a hypocrite.

The original nest egg means little! DJT took and magnified it to $9,000,000,000, Investments in numerous business exposes one to success and failure. When there was Failure there was correction followed by more success. Where and when did you Bank your First Million?

I put all my million dollars of confederate money in the 1st Confederate Bank of Alabama.

He is worth so much that he felt the need to cheat the students of Trump U. He cheated some of the damn fools who believed in him. Like you.

Edward in reply to Olinser. | October 24, 2018 at 8:35 pm

Actually I’ve read that she did very well financially flipping houses. Whether that was her own efforts and decisions, or just putting money in the hands of a consultant I don’t know.

EnquiringMind in reply to Edward. | October 24, 2018 at 9:56 pm

She still would have had to pick the right consultant. It is so much easier when you pick the right daddy. I am not interested in Trump’s DNA; just his tax returns. What do you think he is hiding?

MajorWood in reply to Edward. | October 25, 2018 at 10:39 am

The way to make money flipping houses is to know where the public gentrification $$ are heading next, which in Portland means knowing where they have decided to run the next light rail line, which is always decided long before the process has even been opened to public input. There is far more insider trading based on .gov decisions than on spying within publicly traded companies. Of course, this system is now at an end because they have finally moved the black people to where a light rail line already exists.

Remember. This wasn’t leaked, this wasn’t forced, nobody was even aware she had actually taken a DNA test.

She VOLUNTARILY released this laughable crap thinking it would actually benefit her.

At this point I’m honestly half convinced Trump paid off somebody on her staff to convince her this was a good idea.

I mean I knew Warren was always shallow and dumb, but I had no idea she was THIS dumb.

    redc1c4 in reply to Olinser. | October 24, 2018 at 9:00 pm

never attribute to malice (Trump) what can adequately be explained by stupidity (hers)

a few years back it would have w*rked like a charm, but the worm has turned.

hell, a few years back, pre-Trump, it never would have become an issue anywhere but in the conservative blogosphere, and would have never made the news or make her think she should “buttress” her cla(bull5hit)im.

    G*d bless PDJT!

Don’t forget Harvard was in just as deep as she was. They got a woman and a minority in one and that one was on their side.

Elizabeth Warren might be book smart I suppose. Perhaps. That’s the general consensus it seems. I dunno. But these things are certain – man oh man, is she ever a dummy and void of common sense. Holy mackerel.

… which has only proved that Trump can push sensible people past the point of madness.

I’ve seen no indication that Princess Shoveling Bull has a single “sensible” feather in her headdress.

Madness, however…

This likely hasn’t gotten any notice outside of MA but over the past week Warren has debated her Republican challenger, Geoff Diehl, twice and in one of the debates she accused him of attending a “racist rally” on Cape Cod. It should be noted that this was nothing more than a pro police rally on the Cape where earlier in the year a police officer was basically executed by a career criminal while do a house check. Attendees held signs saying “Back the Blue” and Support our Police.” Some racists.

Perhaps even more interesting is that Warren stated (actually read off of her notes) that the rally took place in the town of “Bern” or “Burn”. Warren has lived in MA for 20 years and has been a Senator from MA for 6 years yet she doesn’t know that the town of Bourne on Cape Cod is pronounced “Born”.

This is not some nondescript little village in western MA (there are 351 cities and towns in MA), Bourne is a major town on Cape Cod. In fact, there are only two ways to drive to the Cape… over the Bourne Bridge or over the Sagamore Bridge. I dare say 99% of MA residents know that Bourne is “Born.”

The fact that Warren didn’t even know the name of this very well known town in her supposed home state says a lot about her connection to the people of MA and her willingness to get outside of insular Cambridge and actually learn about the state she represents.

She will retain her seat come Nov but I am hearing more and more MA residents tiring of her act.

Massinsanity in reply to Massinsanity. | October 24, 2018 at 8:26 pm

I should have mentioned that she cited the SPLC as evidence that the event was racist as one of the groups attending the rally is on their hit list. Surprise, surprise.

Here is a good story about the debate:

Here is a link to a video of the key sequence, watch her stammer repeated while making the accusation:

Oh but wouldn’t it be great if Geoff won? Not impossible.

Massinsanity in reply to ecosse. | October 25, 2018 at 8:13 am

Its pretty close to impossible even though MA is not the monolith that many people may believe. There is a very large semi-circular swath of red running from the north shore through central MA to the south shore that he can win but she will crush him inside 128, in all the cities and in western MA towns like Amherst and North Hampton which are as nutty as Cambridge. MA should have a couple of R reps in the house but the districts have been so gerrymandered that it can’t happen.

Also making it tough is the presence of a third party candidate who will siphon votes from Diehl and he needs a miracle to start with.

EnquiringMind | October 24, 2018 at 8:36 pm

I do wonder how come Trump’s constant lying and his ignorance aren’t a problem that gets pushed deeper into the electorate’s mind. I have a theory, but I think it would go over the heads of those assembled here.

Perhaps people are getting tired of him and the end will start with Trump managing to lose a severely gerrymandered House. Then it will continue to tumble down hill for another 2 years.

There is a saying in poker that if you sit down at the table and can’t tell who the sucker is, it is you. Why don’t you try that concept out at your next Trump rally? Look around you. Is anyone making out except the fat fuke on the podium. If you can’t see that ……………

A “permanent downvote” for you. Go away, troll.

she’s turning out to be like hillary–she just doesn’t know that her presidential aspirations are done–over

am sure many millions of americans are in fervent prayer that our countrymen in massachusetts will somehow manage to defeat her at the polls

have seriously thought about mailing her a few thousand plastic forks as a tangible notice of the fact that she’s done–though honestly believe she’s just to damned stupid/nutty to realize it

If Lizzy Warren were a hot dog, she’d be 100% ground Turkey – the kind that turns green after sitting on the cooler shelf for 6 months.!

I think I’m starting to understand why she’s so insistent about her Indian “heritage” that she genuinely can’t grasp that nobody else sees her vanishingly tiny bits of maybe-Indian DNA as solid evidence.

That Indian thing wasn’t family lore, it was a family joke. Call the blue-eyed blonde kid an Indian (and no, they definitely would not have called her a “Native American”). It’s so ridiculous it’s hysterical, hyuck-hyuck. Sure, like most dumb family jokes it isn’t particularly funny to anybody else. But at least most of them are in on the joke. Well, maybe not Liz. She took it seriously, and now, years later, anything else is inconceivable.

DouglasJBender | October 24, 2018 at 10:25 pm

If Bruce Jenner can be a woman, then Elizabeth Warren can be an Indian. Now leave them alone, and let them live their lies.

If you don’t like Pocahontas then you’re a DNAist.

This shows what a dummy she is, when she can’t beat the honor system. Same with fellow dummy hillary klinton.

Imagine this fool trying to negotiate with North Korea, Putin or China? She’d be as useless as obdumbo.

DouglasJBender | October 25, 2018 at 2:58 am

Also fake red skin.

Odd that her backers are unhappy about her touting her minuscule native American heritage, thinking it damages her prospects for the presidency, but they are perfectly fine with Liz Warren as a US senator deciding issues like treaties, judicial appointments, taxes, health care, Social Security and so on.

MA has given us some pretty defective senators in the past, such as Edward Kennedy and John Kerry. So Warren’s safe with the average Bay State voter who forgave Kennedy’s ‘heroism’ at Chappaquiddick and Kerry’s VVAW story-telling as well as his appeasement of Russia and Tehran just for the sake of an Obama ‘legacy’.

Insufficiently Sensitive | October 25, 2018 at 9:59 am

As for Warren’s decision to list herself as a racial minority in the Association of American Law Schools Director of Law Teachers

She didn’t just list herself. The ever-so-noble Harvard University emblazoned her name as ‘of color’ in its virtue-signaling to lesser universities.

I put all my million dollars of confederate money in the 1st Confederate Bank of Alabama.

Why, when one day the south rises again, that horde might really be worth something.

if MA voters continued voting for Killer Kennedy for 40 years after Chappaquiddick, you think these inbred morons are going to let a little bit of cigar-store fakery get in their way

Lizzie Warren, guilty of cultural appropriation for personal benefit. Have you no shame Warren. You are a disgrace and despicable. Get out of politics you egomaniac.

Fauxahontas is so highly educated that she hadn’t a clue that she would come out with egg,er war paint on her face.
