Ismail Kowsari, a senior officer in Iran's Revolutionary Guard, lashed out at Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's vow to impose strong sanctions on the regime. From NBC News:
"The people of Iran should stand united in the face of this and they will deliver a strong punch to the mouth of the American secretary of state and anyone who backs them," said Kowsari, according to the Iranian Labour News Agency.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also mocked Pompeo, asking, "Who are you" to make decisions for Iran while a member of parliament insisted the regime shouldn't play into "U.S. radicalism."

Whew boy. This has not been a good few days for the "any suggestion the FBI was out to damage Trump is conspiratorial kookery" crowd. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Sen. Ron Johnson, requested information from FBI Director Christopher Wray Monday.

Last week on May 15th was Nakba Day, when Palestinians and their supporters mourn what they call the ‘catastrophe’ of the modern Jewish state’s establishment, mark the displacement of some 750,000 Arabs in 1948, and call for the ‘right’ of return of the Palestinian refugees to their lost homes in present-day Israel. There are many reasons that hundreds of thousands of Arabs were displaced in 1948—but as we highlighted in a recent post, chief among them was the fear of being harmed by the approaching Zionist forces.

Online streaming giant Netflix announced Monday its plans to form a "storytelling partnership with Barack and Michelle Obama." "President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have entered into a multi-year agreement to produce films and series with Netflix, the world’s leading internet entertainment service," says Netflix.

Self-proclaimed socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) caused quite a commotion in 2016 when he challenged Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination. Hillary came out on top, but not without controversy. Leaks showed those in the DNC worked to sabotage Sanders' campaign. The energy behind Sanders' presidential bid may still be abuzz as his former campaign manager Jeff Weaver said the senator is still mulling a 2020 run. But will it work? Politico found that his grassroots group Our Revolution is "in disarray."

Unlike Watergate, the current crisis in government/spying/politics doesn't have a memorable name. But for those of us who lived through Watergate, it has a certain resonance with that event as well as major differences, imparting a strange sense of familiarity, dislocation, and increasing alarm.

Former convict and coal CEO Don Blankenship plans to run as the Constitution Party nominee for the West Virginia senate. He will have to challenge the state's "sore loser" law, which "prevents failed candidates in a main-party primary from refiling to run in the general election under another party's banner." If Blankenship successfully runs as a third-party candidate, the GOP might be in for a bit of a challenge especially as they have a real chance to unseat incumbent Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin.
