Lebanese-based terrorist group Hezbollah, a functionary of the Iran, has engaged in international drug running and other crimes to help finance its terror activities worldwide.
As exposed late last year, the Obama administration was aware Hezbollah was running cocaine into the U.S., but disrupted law enforcement plans (Project Cassandra) to shut down the network out of fear of upsetting Iran during the Iran nuclear talks.
The story, reported by Politico Magazine, was covered by us, Obama allowed Hezbollah cocaine running into U.S. in quest for Iran nuke deal:
U.S. law enforcement came up with an aggressive plan to take down the Hezbollah international network and its key individuals. But it never happened. We now know why.Politico Magazine has an amazing expose on how the Obama White House derailed the plans to take down the Hezbollah network, and to allow Hezbollah to continue drug-running into the U.S., in order to avoid upsetting the Iran nuclear deal. The Politico article is so long, so detailed, and so powerful, it’s impossible for me to give a brief summary, so read the whole thing, The secret backstory of how Obama let Hezbollah off the hoo.
The story has held up to weeks of attacks from the Obama Iran deal echo-chamber, but was met with almost total silence by the mainstream media. What should have been one of the largest political scandals in recent memory was swept under the rug through a code of silence from a media itching to keep the focus on supposed Trump-Russia collusion.
There have been congressional demands for an investigation, and DOJ promised to review the matter.
In an important development today, DOJ announced it was forming a team to go after Hezbollah. The press release reads, in part, Attorney General Sessions Announces Hezbollah Financing and Narcoterrorism Team:
“Attorney General Jeff Sessions today announced the creation of the Hezbollah Financing and Narcoterrorism Team (HFNT), a group of experienced international narcotics trafficking, terrorism, organized crime, and money laundering prosecutors. HFNT prosecutors and investigators are tasked with investigating individuals and networks providing support to Hezbollah, and pursuing prosecutions in any appropriate cases. The HFNT will begin by assessing the evidence in existing investigations, including cases stemming from Project Cassandra, a law enforcement initiative targeting Hezbollah’s drug trafficking and related operations.”
The press release stressed that the new team would go back over the prior Project Cassandra investigations:
“In an effort to protect Americans from both threats, the Justice Department will assemble leading investigators and prosecutors to ensure that all Project Cassandra investigations as well as other related investigations, whether past or present, are given the needed resources and attention to come to their proper resolution. The team will initiate prosecutions that will restrict the flow of money to foreign terrorist organizations as well as disrupt violent international drug trafficking operations.”
As with the original Politico report exposing what the Obama administration did, this new task force is being mostly ignored by the networks, with the exception of Fox News.
