DOJ to review whether Obama admin allowed Hezbollah drug running to facilitate Iran nuclear deal
Meanwhile, Obama-era deep state and sycophantic media types continue their smear campaign against Politico reporter Josh Meyer
Fox News reports that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has decide to open a formal investigation into whether the Obama administration interference in law enforcement attempts to shut down a Hezbollah international criminal ring running drugs into the U.S.
This arises out of Politico investigation into Project Cassandra, which we covered in our post, Obama allowed Hezbollah cocaine running into U.S. in quest for Iran nuke deal. See that post for the details, but here’s the top line from the Politico reporter Josh Meyer:
In its determination to secure a nuclear deal with Iran, the Obama administration derailed an ambitious law enforcement campaign targeting drug trafficking by the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, even as it was funneling cocaine into the United States, according to a POLITICO investigation.
The Mainstream media still is maintaining almost complete silence on the Politico story, as the Obama Iran Deal Echo Chamber attacks Meyers.
But as WaPo reported, when it finally covered the story through its media critic Eric Wemple:
“The pushback doesn’t cite any factual errors involving the story’s claims about shut-down investigations and the like.”
Congress has demanded records regarding Operation Cassandra and whether there was interference, but there was a big development wiht the Sessions announcement.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions is launching a review of a law enforcement initiative called Project Cassandra after an investigative report was published this week claiming the Obama administration gave a free pass to Hezbollah’s drug-trafficking and money-laundering operations to help ensure the Iran nuclear deal would stay on track.
The Justice Department said in a statement to Fox News that Sessions on Friday directed a review “to evaluate allegations that certain matters were not properly prosecuted and to ensure all matters are appropriately handled.”
“While I am hopeful that there were no barriers constructed by the last administration to allowing DEA agents to fully bring all appropriate cases under Project Cassandra, this is a significant issue for the protection of Americans,” Sessions said in a written statement. “We will review these matters and give full support to investigations of violent drug trafficking organizations.” …
DOJ officials told Fox News the review could lead to new prosecutions of people affiliated with Hezbollah. It could also lead to an Inspector General investigation of personnel matters relating to the project.

“Protecting our citizens from terrorist organizations and combatting the devastating drug crisis gripping our nation are two of the Justice Department’s top priorities,” said Attorney General Sessions. “Operations designed to investigate and prosecute terrorist organizations that are also fueling that drug crisis must be paramount in this administration. The DEA has worked tirelessly on this front. I am committed to giving our hard working and dedicated DEA agents all the tools that they need to allow them to shut down these drug rings.

The attacks on Josh Meyer may it seem like he’s the one who “discovered” this story and published it. However, the following article notes that this “story” was already being told by others months ago. Seems to me this fact alone undercuts the echo chamber’s attempts to discredit Meyer.

It seems that when we get to the point where we cannot conceive of how Obama could be any more dishonest, corrupt or more oblivious to the law, something new comes out showing all how much worse it all really was. The idea of essentially sanctioning a $500 million drug ring to operate for years just to allow for an “executive agreement” to be reached with Iran is simply beyond the pale. How could anyone of any party justify of even try to defend such actions?

For non-official acts, presidents have no immunity, whether during or after their terms.
For official acts, presidents are immune from civil suit. (One can sue the office of the presidency, in which case the current president’s name appears as the defendant, but when the presidency passes the defendant’s name on the case changes to the new president.
What I don’t know is whether presidents are immune from criminal charges for official acts.
