DOJ to review whether Obama admin allowed Hezbollah drug running to facilitate Iran nuclear deal

Meanwhile, Obama-era deep state and sycophantic media types continue their smear campaign against Politico reporter Josh Meyer

Fox News reports that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has decide to open a formal investigation into whether the Obama administration interference in law enforcement attempts to shut down a Hezbollah international criminal ring running drugs into the U.S.

This arises out of Politico investigation into Project Cassandra, which we covered in our post, Obama allowed Hezbollah cocaine running into U.S. in quest for Iran nuke deal. See that post for the details, but here’s the top line from the Politico reporter Josh Meyer:

In its determination to secure a nuclear deal with Iran, the Obama administration derailed an ambitious law enforcement campaign targeting drug trafficking by the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, even as it was funneling cocaine into the United States, according to a POLITICO investigation.

The Mainstream media still is maintaining almost complete silence on the Politico story, as the Obama Iran Deal Echo Chamber attacks Meyers.

But as WaPo reported, when it finally covered the story through its media critic Eric Wemple:

“The pushback doesn’t cite any factual errors involving the story’s claims about shut-down investigations and the like.”

Congress has demanded records regarding Operation Cassandra and whether there was interference, but there was a big development wiht the Sessions announcement.

Fox News reports:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is launching a review of a law enforcement initiative called Project Cassandra after an investigative report was published this week claiming the Obama administration gave a free pass to Hezbollah’s drug-trafficking and money-laundering operations to help ensure the Iran nuclear deal would stay on track.

The Justice Department said in a statement to Fox News that Sessions on Friday directed a review “to evaluate allegations that certain matters were not properly prosecuted and to ensure all matters are appropriately handled.”

“While I am hopeful that there were no barriers constructed by the last administration to allowing DEA agents to fully bring all appropriate cases under Project Cassandra, this is a significant issue for the protection of Americans,” Sessions said in a written statement. “We will review these matters and give full support to investigations of violent drug trafficking organizations.” …

DOJ officials told Fox News the review could lead to new prosecutions of people affiliated with Hezbollah. It could also lead to an Inspector General investigation of personnel matters relating to the project.

Meanwhile, Obama-era deep state and sycophantic media types continue their campaign against Meyer, who has been defending himself on Twitter:

UPDATE: DOJ issued this statement:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions today directed a review of the handling of Project Cassandra, a law enforcement initiative targeting Hezbollah’s drug trafficking and related operations in the United States and abroad, to evaluate allegations that certain matters were not properly prosecuted and to ensure all matters are appropriately handled.

“Protecting our citizens from terrorist organizations and combatting the devastating drug crisis gripping our nation are two of the Justice Department’s top priorities,” said Attorney General Sessions. “Operations designed to investigate and prosecute terrorist organizations that are also fueling that drug crisis must be paramount in this administration. The DEA has worked tirelessly on this front. I am committed to giving our hard working and dedicated DEA agents all the tools that they need to allow them to shut down these drug rings.

“While I am hopeful that there were no barriers constructed by the last administration to allowing DEA agents to fully bring all appropriate cases under Project Cassandra, this is a significant issue for the protection of Americans. We will review these matters and give full support to investigations of violent drug trafficking organizations

“The Department of Justice is absolutely committed to investigating and prosecuting international drug trafficking organizations and with the assistance of our DEA and FBI agents we will leave no stone unturned as we work to making America safer.”

The lefty anti-Americans in the media and elsewhere will spare no vitriol, no denial and no pretzel-twisting logic to protect their incompetent-in-chief obama from well-documented, superbly sourced and objective reporting, even from a demonstrably lefty news outlet.

The only analogy I can draw is rag’s “never Trumper” insistence that win after win after win, President Trump is SOMEHOW the bad guy.

Smear all they want: they’ll just keep burying themselves and raising outrage.

Swamp Sessions finally getting on the ball has to be credited to no one less (aside from Trump) than all of us calling him out for failing to do so.

Traitor Barry is about to be fully exposed.

Thank you, General Sessions, for starting to show up (on this issue and on Uranium One, for starters). 2018 is looking better all the time.

Perhaps . . .just perhaps . . . it’ll be the year when the Obama acolytes and left-leaning “journalists” (but I repeat myself) lay one too many smears on one too many factual reports and reporters. Perhaps, after the light goes on in the heads of the rest, they could try actual reporting, not attacking anyone or everything that expresses facts and thoughts outside their hive-mind. One can hope.

You got to be kidding me.

‘Reporters’ of are lazy, ignorant, arrogant narcissists in a cult, and they have no idea why they belief the tripe they do. Do you really believe these people will change their stripes – and admit what fools they’ve been?

They’ll take their delicate egos to the grave, and our way of life with it, if they had to.

Don’t EVER trust someone who so happily sold out your nation for a little ego gratification.

Trusting one of these jerks is akin to trusting boehner or mcconnell or ryan or corker or flake or mccain.

Let all of them get jobs in some hot factory, or digging ditches, if they don’t land in prison first.

MAYBE there is a little HOPE !

The attacks on Josh Meyer may it seem like he’s the one who “discovered” this story and published it. However, the following article notes that this “story” was already being told by others months ago. Seems to me this fact alone undercuts the echo chamber’s attempts to discredit Meyer.

It seems that when we get to the point where we cannot conceive of how Obama could be any more dishonest, corrupt or more oblivious to the law, something new comes out showing all how much worse it all really was. The idea of essentially sanctioning a $500 million drug ring to operate for years just to allow for an “executive agreement” to be reached with Iran is simply beyond the pale. How could anyone of any party justify of even try to defend such actions?

At some point the question must be asked “What are the limits of prosecutorial protection does a former president have concerning their actions as president? It would seem that Obama has violated just about every law in the land and if there is no consequence, then what’s to prevent future presidents for behaving just as badly?

“What are the limits of prosecutorial protection does a former president…”

For noncriminal acts BEFORE being president:

Clinton v. Jones, 520 U.S. 681 (1997)[1], United States Supreme Court case establishing that a sitting President of the United States has no immunity from civil law litigation against him or her, for acts done before taking office and unrelated to the office.

For acts WHILE president (this is from the ny slimes and the amazon post, and it will backfire against Traitor Barack:)

The president can be indicted criminally:

    BUT, our bigger problem:

Swamp Sessions is likely being blackmailed, just like that corrupt, pathetic drunk john boehner was:

For non-official acts, presidents have no immunity, whether during or after their terms.

For official acts, presidents are immune from civil suit. (One can sue the office of the presidency, in which case the current president’s name appears as the defendant, but when the presidency passes the defendant’s name on the case changes to the new president.

What I don’t know is whether presidents are immune from criminal charges for official acts.
