Rush Limbaugh Tag

In a rare appearance on FOX News Sunday, Rush Limbaugh addressed a number of Trump related issues including the reasons for his loyal support, his battle with the media, and who's obstructing him in Washington. Here are some details from FOX News:
Limbaugh blasts news media attacks on Trump as pointless, 'kind of comical' Conservative radio star Rush Limbaugh on Sunday assailed the news media, suggesting its efforts to “destroy” Republican President Trump are “comical” and dismissing stories about Russia purportedly influencing the 2016 White House race in Trump’s favor.

In the wake of the horrifying and incomprehensible shootings in Dallas that left four police officers and one rapid transit officer dead and another seven people wounded, Heather MacDonald appeared on Rush's radio show. She shared statistics and asserted that the entire Black Lives Matter movement is "based on a lie." MacDonald, you may recall, made similar points on a radio podcast interview that we posted at Legal Insurrection about the Black Lives Matter movement and the threat they pose to our nation’s police officers. In that interview, MacDonald "spoke out against the crippling influence that the “Black Lives Matter” movement is having on the quality of life in the very neighborhoods where the protests are taking place":
I think this is an even more extreme example of the way this country deals with race and policing, which is to talk fanatically about police in order not to talk about the far more difficult problem of black crime.

Following the horrific violence and murder of police officers in Dallas this week, conservative talk host Rush Limbaugh made a disturbingly plausible prediction on his show. Rush suggested that Dallas might just be the beginning of something and that the next targets could be the Republican National Convention and the Democratic Convention after that. The Washington Free Beacon reported:
After Dallas, Rush Limbaugh Predicts Republican and Democratic Conventions Will Be Attacked Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh predicted Friday that both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions later this month will be the next targets of an attack after the police killings Thursday night in Dallas.

Marco Rubio may have received the third-most votes in Iowa this week, but he won big. The Iowa caucus was Monday.  Even as votes were being counted, news emerged confirming long-standing rumor that South Carolina Senator Tim Scott would endorse Rubio. Scott is the first African-American Senator from South Carolina since Reconstruction and his endorsement could swing the state.  According to the Washington Times:

Yesterday a Texas teenager, who happens to be a Muslim, brought a homemade clock to school and was arrested because the clock was mistaken for a bomb. Some people are blaming racism but zero tolerance policies are the real problem. NBC News reports that he won't be charged:
No Charges For Ahmed Mohamed, Teen Arrested After Bringing Homemade Clock to School Police in Texas said Wednesday that charges will not be filed against a 14-year-old Muslim high school student who was arrested after he brought in a homemade clock that a teacher said looked like a bomb. The arrest drew an outcry on social media. Hundreds of thousands of people used the hashtag #IStandWithAhmed — and President Barack Obama invited the teen to the White House. Ahmed Mohamed, who is Sudanese-American, was arrested on Monday in the Dallas suburb of Irving after he took the clock to his high school. He told The Dallas Morning News that he had been in robotics club in middle school, and he wanted to show his new teacher what he could do.

Angelo Carusone is the Media Matters executive behind the effort to get Rush Limbaugh off the airwaves, as we documented in 2012: The attack on Limbaugh was not Carusone's first targeting of a major conservative personality.  Carusone, prior to joining Media Matters, was behind the Stop Beck effort. Angelo Carusone Twitter Profile As reported at The Daily Caller today, Carusone may have some problems with a prior blog he maintained in which he engaged in questionable conduct, Media Matters Executive Wrote Racist, Anti-Semitic, Anti-’Tranny’ Blog Posts:

We know Media Matters hates Rush Limbaugh. It's an obsession second only to the fixation on Fox News. Media Matters was behind the astroturfed Stop Rush campaign targeting advertisers, which ended in a complete failure. Nonetheless, the Limbaugh obsession continues at Media Matters. The latest iteration is an article published yesterday claiming that Rush Limbaugh's ratings are so bad, Limbaugh's taken to claiming ratings don't matter, After Getting Bad Ratings News, Limbaugh Tries To Prove "Ratings Don't Matter" Media Matters After Getting Bad Rating
Rush Limbaugh used CBS' decision to hire comedian Stephen Colbert as the new host of The Late Show as evidence that ratings are irrelevant following reports that the talk radio firebrands' own ratings have collapsed. On the May 1 edition of his radio show, Limbaugh declared that CBS' decision to replace David Letterman with Colbert is proof that "ratings don't matter in a lot of television." Limbaugh latched onto recent comments by CBS president Les Moonves to repeatedly gloat that he was right when he claimed that "it's not about ratings anymore" but rather about coolness. In fact, during the entire first segment of his show, Limbaugh repeated the phrase "ratings don't matter" a total of nine times....
Media Matters provided a 7 minute audio, and a partial transcript, to back up its claim. I happened to listen to that segment live when I was in the car yesterday, so I knew what Media Matters readers were not informed: The audio and transcript were edited to end just before Limbaugh made clear that the type of approach the networks can take for late night TV does not apply to him. Here's the part of the transcript Media Matters did not include:

Two big things have happened this week (so far). Rush Limbaugh's broadcast a year ago on the day of Andrew Breibart's death, March 1, 2012. One of the best memorials I've heard. (h/t Stix Blog) For background on the lies told about Breitbart's Shirley Sherrod tape, and how it supposedly was misleading, see my post Repeat after...
