Elizabeth Warren needs an intervention

Elizabeth Warren needs an intervention

I get the feeling that Elizabeth Warren is heading for an Edmund Muskie moment completely of her own making, unless those close to her step in soon.

I don’t expect Warren to take advice from her political opponents, but she just can’t seem to take good advice even from her political friends.

The latest advice for Warren to come clean on her supposed Native American ancestry comes from Massachusetts Democratic Congressman Stephen Lynch, via The Hill:

“There has to be an answer for this at some point, something that’s full and comprehensive and has some closure to it as opposed to the way it’s been dragged out — like water torture,” Lynch said late Thursday afternoon.

Asked if Warren and her campaign should put out all the information to put the story to bed, Lynch said “they probably should have done that probably four weeks ago.”

“I think you just need to get it out there, lay your cards out on the table and then you can move on,” he said. “But feeding a little bit of information every week or so, that’s just keeping it going and it’s taken on a life of its own at this point. If they want it to go away they need to address it. They can’t pretend it’s not there which is the approach they’ve been taking thus far.” …

“That’s all I hear people talking about. They’re not talking about the fact that she is a bona fide consumer advocate, they’re talking about this stuff. You hope that the narrative of your campaign will be one that showcases your strengths, and she has a lot of strengths. She does. I’ve seen her work firsthand, and we’re not getting to that because she’s not getting past this issue.”

Her response to this friendly advice?  The same robotic line her campaign has been giving almost every day for a month:

“Elizabeth Warren is focused on the issues important to Massachusetts families who are getting hammered,” Warren campaign spokeswoman Alethea Harney told The Hill when asked about Lynch’s criticism.

A lot of Democrats want to shake Warren and say “snap out of it.”  But there appears to be no snapping out of Warren’s refusal just to acknowledge that she’s not Cherokee.

Despite the mountain of evidence that she is not Cherokee, Warren persists, releasing this statement just two days ago:

My Native American heritage is part of who I am, I’m proud of it and I have been open about it.

And again in an e-mail blast to supporters:

My mother, grandmother, and aunts were open about my family’s Native American heritage, and I never had any reason to doubt them. What kid asks their grandparents for legal documentation to go along with their family stories? What kid asks their mother for proof in how she describes herself?

My heritage is a part of who I am — and I am proud of it.

In an interview with the Globe released today, Warren again stands by her claim:

On the phone, she spoke sometimes expansively and without the slightest hint of apology about her conviction that she has maternal roots from the Cherokee and Delaware tribes. “I know who I am,’’ Warren said. “I know my heritage.’’

A moment later, in response to a question over whether she took any professional advantage of her self-identification as Native American, she said, “I won’t deny who I am, I won’t deny my heritage, but I didn’t ask for anything because of it.’’

Everyone around her sees what’s happening with her ludicrous denials and attempts to change the subject, including Chris Cillizza of The Washington Post, hardly a Scott Brown promoter:

Not long ago, we encouraged Elizabeth Warren to stop digging herself into a hole. She’s still digging.

Jonathan Turley, again not a Brown promoter, notes that even the law professor community has become obsessed with Warren’s strange boasts, including that she was the first nursing mother to take the New Jersey Bar exam:

This morning three different law professors sent me this video of U.S. Senate Candidate and Harvard Law Professor Elizabeth Warren claiming to be the first nursing mother to ever take the bar exam. One of the professors, who is a liberal academic, noted that she knows that claim to be untrue from personal experience.

Instead of coming to grips with reality and the truth, Warren is doubling down on playing the victim, accusing Scott Brown for a second time of insulting her parents:

Elizabeth Warren lashed out at U.S. Sen. Scott Brown today – saying the Republican incumbent should apologize for insinuating that her parents weren’t truthful when they told her about her Native American heritage.

Brown told reporters, “My mom and dad have told me a lot of things, too, but it’s not accurate.”

“Scott Brown’s comments about my parents are totally out of line. I resent him questioning their honesty. My mother and father are not here to defend themselves and should be off limits. Don and Pauline Herring are not fair game and Scott Brown should apologize,” she wrote.

Brown’s camp shot back today saying Warren is the one out of line.

“This is the second time Elizabeth Warren has made this pathetic and baseless accusation in an attempt to escape personal responsibility for spending five weeks misleading the press and the public,” said Brown spokesman Colin Reed. “With so many new questions piling up, she would be wise to come clean, stop the stonewalling and tell the truth, rather than making up frivolous and false attacks against Scott Brown.”

Warren has built her entire narrative around lore her parents supposedly told her.  Warren is the one who put her deceased parents at issue.  Assuming they actually told her all the things she attributes to them (we’ll never know, will we), they were wrong.  It’s been proven, time and again in the past month.

Only in the world of Elizabeth Warren is correcting an inaccurate fact she attributed to her parents considered an attack on her parents.

And in defending herself in The Globe interview linked above, Warren again put her parents at issue in a way that is not verifiable because everyone who would know is dead:

“In the 1930s, when my parents got married, these were hard issues,’’ Warren said. “My father’s family so objected to my mother’s Native American heritage that my mother told me they had to elope.

[Note – this new claim about her parents eloping because her mother was Native American will be the subject of fact checking, I’m sure.  A quick Google search turned up no prior instances when she has said this publicly.]

There is a deer in the headlights quality to Warren.  She seems frozen in a narrative which does not exist of this world, via the Globe:

“It’s who I am, it’s how I grew up. It’s part of the home I grew up in. It’s me, part of me, through and through. I can’t change that.’’

Update: Michael Patrick Leahy of Breitbart.com already is fact checking the story about Warren’s parents eloping.

“Icebergs ahead, slow down, turn the ship, Captain! Captain? Captain, are you listening? There are icebergs out there!”

When a key staffer resigns, that means the lifeboats are being launched.

PS – Why, always, is it the cover-up and denials that bring people down? One quick moment of revelation, and move on. But instead … drip, drip, drip.

creeper in reply to PrincetonAl. | June 1, 2012 at 9:46 am

I suspect Warren’s continued stonewalling comes as a result of having watched the _resident get away with it for so long.

So many parallels between the two of them it’s eerie.

Holy mole…!!!

This poor lady is apparently sick. And I don’t mean that as snark.

This is pathological.

You have to remember that this is the same Elizabeth Warren who skipped Congressional hearings to have a meeting with her staff, making her no friends on Capitol Hill and leading to her non-confirmation.
It must be difficult to have 0% Cherokee blood passing through your veins, causing you to act like a stupid savage.
I suggest she stays away from the “fire water” .. even the wine.

Ragspierre in reply to Neo. | June 1, 2012 at 9:54 am

“Elizabeth Warren is focused on the issues important to Massachusetts families who are getting hammered”

There IS an odd recurrence of that whole “getting hammered” theme.

      Makes you wanna say, “Hmmmmm….”.

Life in Mass. must be hard, with whole families getting hammered…

    But there’s more …

In the 1930s, when my parents got married, these were hard issues,’’ Warren said. “My father’s family so objected to my mother’s Native American heritage that my mother told me they had to elope.

Breitbart News has obtained a copy of what it believes to be Warrens’ parents’ marriage certificate from Hughes County, Oklahoma, dated January 4, 1932. The marriage took place in Holdenville, Oklahoma, the county seat, located approximately 14 miles from Wetumpka, Oklahoma, which both the 21-year-old groom, Donald J. Herring, and 19-year-old bride, Pauline Reed, declared as their residence. …

According to the document, the marriage was performed by Sidney H. Babcock, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church South of Holdensville, Oklahoma.

Typically, couples that elope do not marry in a church, or in their place of residence.

In the future, everyone will be Cherokee for 14 miles.

A crisis reveals quite a bit about a person’s character. She’s one “character” I don’t believe belongs in the Senate of this country. We already have others, as well as a President, who have demonstrated their ineptness in crisis.

Rosalie in reply to ALman. | June 1, 2012 at 10:56 am

It’s obvious you don’t need “character” in that state judging by Ted Kennedy.

Juba Doobai! in reply to ALman. | June 1, 2012 at 9:44 pm

It’s not just about ineptness. It’s also about just plain, old, ring-down lying to the people. That is the nature of the 21st century Communist Democrat party. Their party motto is this: “by any means necessary.” I always figure that if a person is going to be a liar, he should be a talented liar because lying is a talent. These amateurs on the Communist stage take us for fools because they believe we will swallow their patently obvious lies. That so many Democrats believe the lies, and some willfully gullible GOPers do, too–can I say Tom Coburn?–is proof that one half of the nation consists of suckers willing to be suckered. The GOP tries lying, too, but the LSM is there to fact check their arses and show them up. The LSM is now starting to do that with Lieawatha.

Howie Carr drops a bomb, Warren profited from forclosures!

Hilarious, after her “who’s roads?-our roads!” rant against businesses… wonder if those foreclosures were GSE home loans
    -who’s homes?-our bailout!

    Neo in reply to Moe4. | June 1, 2012 at 9:54 am

There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You built a factory out there — good for you!

But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn’t have to worry that maurauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did. Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea — God bless. Keep a big hunk of it.

But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.

    creeper in reply to Moe4. | June 1, 2012 at 9:56 am

    Oh, that’s delicious!

Why this woman isn’t down twenty points in the polls is beyond me. Oh, yeah…it’s “Teddy Kennedy’s seat”. Character is unimportant.

If she were not a lawyer – someone who was supposedly so skilled, knowledgeable, and just down-right wonderful that her abilities got her jobs at U Penn’s law school, not to mention Harvard Law – then some of this might be acceptable as argument. Might.

However, she KNOWS that she does not LEGALLY meet the threshold for minority status, since she has nothing to substantiate her claims; if she were a lawyer of integrity – not to mention a professor of character – she would have long ago done the right thing.

The evidence that she has broken the law or violated regulations which clearly define the terms and requirements of being a minority status is not there. Do lawyers usually try to pretend that clear, black-and-white, unequivical evidence doesn’t exist? Is that what she teaches in her classes?!

Obviously, she is incapable of comprehending that she is violating the LAW. Does that not make her the worst possible candidate, Democrats?! No, I suppose not – you seem to take lying, law breaking, and using the system for personal gain as some sort of badge of honor.

Scott Brown is looking better and better all the time. A Massachusetts Republican, who the people in MA apparently like and support.

Deer in the headlights. Yeah, that’s it.

Socialist ideologue living in a fantasy world. “Sure, sure…..Yeah, that’s what we want!” say the rest of the delusional utopian statists.

When is their primary again? Pass the popcorn!

The evidence that she has broken the law or violated regulations which clearly define the terms and requirements of being a minority status is not there is undeniable . Juba Doobai! in reply to DINORightMarie. | June 1, 2012 at 9:33 am

If she admits that she’s not Cherokee the whole house of cards collapses. Once she makes that admission, that issue about why was she white at UT but Cherokee elsewhere. Once she says not Cherokee, she has to deal with legal issues, federal issues, that she doesn’t want to address. Not only she, but also Harvard.

IMO, she’s a fine lawyer. So far, we all have our opinion that she’s lying. We all have our opinion about a lot of stuff pertaining to law. She’s stalling, stonewalling, and doing everything except admitting what we all believe is true.

IMO, she’s also an idiot cuz she could’ve put this all to bed just by saying my folks told me this when I was a kid and I believed it. However, she would still have to account for the shift in racial identity. Why oh why do we need to identify ourselves by race, for places other than law enforcement?

I betcha that Harvard has threatened her.

tytyvyllus in reply to DINORightMarie. | June 2, 2012 at 8:23 am

a lawyer of integrity, go on….

At this rate, I doubt Warren will receive the nomination. She’s already severely damaged and the establishment is in the process of easing her out.

quiznilo in reply to Hockey Bum. | June 1, 2012 at 9:47 am

We better hope she does get nominated. At this point, it would be easy for Brown to defeat her in the general.

Warren belongs in Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of the United States” under the “The Special People’s fight against the tyranny of truth” section.

“her conviction that she has maternal roots from the Cherokee and Delaware tribes.”

Have I missed it, or is this the first time she has said to also be descended from some one of the Lenape (Delaware) tribe?

Her line that Brown’s questioning here American Indian heritage is an attack on her family reminds me of the courtroom scene in Animal House, “You can say what you want about us, but I won’t stand here and let you bad mouth the United States of America!”

Doubting Thomas | June 1, 2012 at 10:09 am

The three big Democrat lies.
“I Servee in Viet Nam.” Richard Blumenthal

“That’s not my weiner.” Anthony Weiner

“I am a Native American.” Elizabeth Warren

And the odd. “I was born in Hawaii or Kenya or somewhere.” BO

Warren cannot admit she has fibbed. She cannot. If she does so, after all this, she’s essentially calling herself a liar. In the future, that would engender the question” “Are you telling the truth now, or are you lying like you did before?”

Of course, there is no answer … no way to know. What offends ordinary people is her purported intelligence and education should guide her to be straight up with why, specifically, she abetted this fiction for so long, decades in fact … and looks us straight in the eye and claims she sought no benefit from the claim.

Had she been straight up weeks ago, she’d have looked a little silly, but otherwise reputable. Now? She can only appear as what she is … an outright liar.

TrooperJohnSmith | June 1, 2012 at 10:22 am

As a true, Oklahoma-born, “high-cheekboned American” who is well over one-quarter Cherokee and Choctaw, I’d never proclaim myself an American Indian. My paternal grandmother, born in Isom Springs, Indian Territory, was short, dark and looked very Indian. Nonetheless, her mother, born right next to the Choctaw Nation to a black-Irish/Cherokee father and a Choctaw/Crow mother, never fulfilled her requirements under the Dawes Commission to attain her tribal membership. The reason? Paperwork wasn’t done correctly. I’ve researched it, and all she needed to do was file an appeal and go before some type of board and explain. However, she was illiterate and too busy feeding a large brood of kids to take the time.

Having said that, I’ll go on record that neither me nor any of my kin would ever, ever try to “pass” as an Indian, though I and the rest of the family are intently proud of that heritage. There is even a present-day legal remedy to redress Dawes rejections, but what is the purpose, except to support lawyers? I have no desire to live on native lands, and integrity prohibits me from trying to use Indian citizenry for personal gain.

In short, I know who I am and expect nothing because of who my ancestors were. One of the main reasons is the damage so-called “white Indians” (not a nice term) have done to the legacy and reputation of a proud and infinitely abused people.

This is by far a classic case of STUCK ON STUPID!

Someone needs to go to Marxist Elizabeth Warren’s press conferences with this http://t.co/EblIFryG as their ring tone, and have people call them.

Or even better, the Brown campaign should get a burner phone and stick it under the stage.

At one time, I was a yellow-dog Democrat. Then they started running yellow dogs for high public office.

I’m the cutest man on the face of the earth. It’s who I am and part of my heritage because my mommy told me that. All those women that keep rejecting me are thus insulting and disrespecting my mother and should apologize at once…

1. There is a deer in the headlights quality to Warren.

A weasel in the headlights quality.

2. She seems frozen in a narrative which does not exist of this world…

She seems unable to grasp that a shtick which worked for decades has developed a hitch. Maybe she really believes her own BS.

Back when she was in government, a sympathetic interviewer asked her about possible negative side-effects of some of her policies. Instead of addressing the concern, she repeated the wonderful things the policies were intended to accomplish. In hindsight, that interview was a hint of what is going on today.

3. Whether or not Warren is nominated, the race is not over.

TrooperJohnSmith in reply to gs. | June 1, 2012 at 3:06 pm

“Instead of addressing the concern, she repeated the wonderful things the policies were intended to accomplish. In hindsight, that interview was a hint of what is going on today.”

This is just more evidence of the Left’s abandoning of facts for feelings, which has taken the Democratic party to the Utopian Paradise of the mind where existence is solely in ‘the now’ and the bills are paid by someone else, later.

Where is the polling data? That’s all I care about right now.

casualobserver in reply to PhillyGuy. | June 1, 2012 at 2:13 pm

@phillyguy – The Democratic Party and most of the supportive media in the state, local news included, have heavily promoted a Suffolk University poll that shows residents aren’t concerned about her Cherokee claim by about two thirds to a third. What I don’t know is whether that question was posed just about the issue in general, or based on its truth (truthiness?). If it turns out she really doesn’t have lineage AND that she benefited knowingly, I think that poll response will shift.

Before this ends I expect her to be giving a press conference while rolling steel ball bearings and talking about missing straw berries. She has a totally creepy Captain Queeg feel about her.

Raquel Pinkbullet | June 1, 2012 at 11:40 am

If what Elizabeth Warren is saying about her Mother is true then I have bad news for Elizabeth Warren.

Your Mother was mentally ill (Schizophrenic) and told you lie after lie. It’s called “Schizophrenic Mixed Messaging” between a mentally ill parent and a child in psychology .i.e. “Act “White” but we are really Indians but don’t tell anybody”

I have even worse news for you. Schizophrenia is a genetically passed disease. So you are probably suffering from the same mental illness. Schizophrenics believe their own delusions.

You are now at the stage of “Convincing Yourself” that the lies are true. Nobody else is listening anymore. You are talking to yourself. Rationalizing. “If I keep saying it then it will be true.” No Elizabeth many of us have looked at your family tree. There is no Native American bloodline in it. “You are a “White Woman!” 100%

Another hallmark symptom of Schizophrenia is: a person having “Delusions of Grandeur.”

“I was the first breast feeding Mother to take the bar examine…” Can you not see how ridiculous that statement is? How would one know that? Do they keep official records on something like that? What normal person would say something like that?

You need help and medication lady. You may not have noticed but the rest of the world is watching you deteriorate psychologically one day after another. Most of us who have worked in the field can see the “Paranoid Schizophrenic Look” in the photos the media is publishing.

Please go seek professional help. Schizophrenic personality deterioration is a very serious illness.

tytyvyllus in reply to Raquel Pinkbullet. | June 2, 2012 at 8:38 am

of course, she is not mentally ill, especially with one of the two major diagnosis, she is merely neurotic like all of us so why give her an out? and she is not a pathological liar for she knows she is lying. she is an opportunistic person obsessed with self aggrandizement; no different than anyone seeking political office. and of course, she will get the nomination yet she is no longer the anointed one.

Someone needs to take a hammer to the Warren campaign’s hammer metaphor because if I hear it one more time I might take a hammer to my computer.

My mother walked 104 blocks in a blizzard to kindergarten.

I also have proof $$$ there is a tooth fairy.

And we know that lots of us in our family are aliens because often there would be a discussion at the dinner table and someone would ask someone else what planet he came from.

Elizabeth Warren can no more disown her self-myth of being an actual Cherokee than she could disown the Democrat Party of Hate.

Cleanse your spirit Elizabeth Big Lie, and find your true self…

There is going to be a Cherokee uprising …at the State Democratic Convention in Springfield, Massachusetts tomorrow.
