Breitbart lives in the heads of Netroots Nation protectors of Elizabeth Warren

Breitbart lives in the heads of Netroots Nation protectors of Elizabeth Warren

Anne Sorock attended the Netroots Nation convention yesterday morning, and asked a thoroughly legitimate question of the members of a panel on Native American identity:

“I thought it was really interesting in particular that you wondered to yourself, ‘what is a real Indian,’ and you also said ‘it’s time we speak the truth.’ Elizabeth Warren is running for Senate in Massachusetts and has claimed, falsely, to be a Cherokee Indian. Do you think she should apologize to the American Indian community?”

This question about an apology is similar to the demands for an apology by a group of Cherokees and members of other Indian nations who are upset that Warren continues to claim she is Cherokee when all the genealogical evidence says otherwise.

One would think that “progressive” bloggers and attendees at Netroots Nation would join in this call for an apology. What could be more contrary to stated liberal support for native peoples than to object when someone uses a false claim of Native American ancestry for professional and political purposes?

Instead, the reaction has been swift and vicious.  As soon as Anne left the room, someone came up to her to take her photo, and that photo and a post at Daily Kos appeared even before Anne had a chance to do her post here.  (Anne’s post was at 1:49 p.m. Eastern, the Kos post appeared at 12:41 Eastern).

Read the comments to the Kos article — it’s pretty much what you would expect and then some.  There were demands to ruin Anne’s career, calls to confront her if she reappeared at Netroots Nation, information about her including links to her non-profit research entity, and threats to use “black bloc” tactics on her.

But it didn’t stop there, another author at Kos posted another entry posting more information about Anne, and suggesting that she is racist.  It also included this request for Kos readers to try to manipulate Google search algorithms:

May I ask that each individual who feels compelled to respond to this diary to be sure and spell out Anne Sorock’s name when referring to her inane behavior. This will allow the diary to better “brand” her ridiculous actions when individuals use the net to try to find out what sort of individual she truly is. Thank you.

As if that were not enough, yet a third Kos author posted about Anne:

The technique comes to attention as breitbarting moves beyond Breitbart’s own “Big” websites and O’Keefe’s antics, this time at the Netroot Nation conference in Providence, RI. Someone named Anne Sorock attended a panel with the express purpose of embarrassing Native American panelists with a question concerning Elizabeth Warren’s ancestry. She was exposed in the midst of her attempt, but posted her story anyway. As usual with breitbarters, she manipulated the event she wrote about both in words and in selective editing.

Why are the Kos folks so upset?  All Anne did was ask a question which they should be asking, why won’t Elizabeth Warren apologize for falsely claiming to be Cherokee?

These are typically Alynsky tactics — try to isolate the person and personalize the attacks.  Rather than address the progressive failure to confront Warren, they try to change the topic and make it all about Anne.

According to each of the Kos authors and many of the commenters,  what Anne did constituted “Breitbarting.”  Indeed, if you read the posts and comments, they are obsessed with “Breitbarting”:

One of the brilliant parts of breitbarting is that the breitbarters have learned that being called out, even immediately, even irrefutably, doesn’t matter. What matters is the attention. Sorock may or may not be on the way, now, to media stardom, but that (and confirming right-wing prejudices) is her intent–the truth or falsehood of what she has “uncovered’ is irrelevant.

Asking questions and recording the answers apparently is a bad thing when it involves puncturing a progressive failure.

I don’t know if Anne is on her way to media stardom as the Kos author wondered, but one thing is clear:  Breitbart lives in their heads.

Liberals have no shame. Divorced from reality, living in a parallel universe, they make up their own ideas of what’s right and wrong: it is wrong to tell the truth; it is right to protect the agenda at any and all cost. Leftists are pathetic and pitiable. Unhappily, they are also a danger to liberty.

Thank you to brave Anne for going into the den of deceit to try to shed some light in a very dark place.

Breitbarting: Confronting with truth.

Sounds like a fine definition to me. Andrew would be proud.

Anne, I salute your courage and efforts to shed light where truth is submerged by deceit; wear your “Breitbart” tag with honor.

    +1.

Stay strong, Anne, and know that there are a lot of us out here who admire your work and who are grateful to you for having put yourself out there like this.

Reminds me of “Mean Girls”, like freshman ripping apart someone on Facebook.

Relevant question being a progressive Native American, it was a public event. Trying to personally destroy a person, because they did like the question.

Not sure to classify it as a mob or a cult?

Sure there is nastiness from both sides, but on the left there isn’t just ranting. Instead there is this premeditated thought process to destroy dissenters.

LukeHandCool | June 8, 2012 at 12:05 pm

Yes, Breitbart and his legacy haunts them.

And it looks like Kimberlin and Alynsky live in their hearts and heads.

Anne was polite and asked a completely legitimate, innocuous question. And they fly off the handle.

And, when you are dealing with people that angry and full of hate, it just makes them angrier that …

… the ladies on our side are far, far, far prettier and nicer.

LukeHandCool (who is sure Anne was the cutest girl there … and thus got the Lindsay Lohan “Mean Girls” treatment)

I was thinking cute, but pretty is also apt. She has a cute ponytail, a pretty smile, and subscribes to a beautiful philosophy.

TrooperJohnSmith in reply to LukeHandCool. | June 8, 2012 at 1:11 pm

Oh, that amazing lady Anne Sorok,
Her one little question did rock.
She got the fake Indians yapping,
    And KOS Kooks all snapping,
And now it is she they mock?

Damn! I wish I still lived in Rhode Island. I’d be there in 10 minutes and they’d WISH Anne was their biggest problem. If she scares them this much I’d give them the vapors.

The old guard is getting antsy.

It’s interesting that they would use the term “selective” to attack their exposure. This is the group that conducts emotional extortion through the exploitation of a selective history. That marginalizes their adversaries with a selective science. That expresses a selective indignation when it suits their purposes. That present denigration of individual dignity and devaluation of human life as “progress” and “choice.” How utterly ridiculous.

Promises to fulfill dreams of instant gratification without consequence has sponsored progressive corruption. The method by which Affirmative Action and similar policies were processed has been a principal contributor. It has also been a means to consolidate wealth and power, and they will not quickly relinquish the economic and political leverage it engenders.

The left is terrified by the prospect of their tactics being used against them. As Patton said of Rommel as his troops defeated Rommel’s plan.

“Rommel… you magnificent bastard, *I read your book*”

Conservatives have read “Rules for Radicals.”

This whole situation makes me sad regarding the state of America’s ability to deal with issues in a rational and respectful manner.

I know the Left does not have a monopoly on delusional lunatics, but reading things like this makes one feel like simply purchasing 10 acres of land and building a house surrounded by concertina wire and gun towers if that means having to deal with drooling cretins like this on a regular basis.

How quick they are to throw out the race card without any justification or relevancy.

How rapidly they move to defend the indefensible, just so long as it advances their personal ideological beliefs.

Left Coast Red in reply to Vance. | June 8, 2012 at 12:45 pm

This is the age of Obama, radical-in-chief. Nothing is too low, apparently, as long as said intimidation tactic keeps them in or closer to power.

What happened? I mean really. We have a largish segment of the population who live in a world where trying to hit some one with a creampie, or glitterbombing, or chanting and screaming and all the other things done to block out speakers they disagree with is noble and great and “speaking truth to power,” but asking a valid question in a public Q&A session somehow justifies this level of insane vitriol? They are NUTS. I read those comments and they boggled my mind. I felt a little bit of reality slipping away. I guess there really is no more debate, no more discussion, no rational reasoned argument to be had. The speaker Anne questioned gave a response, and the whole thing should have ended. Instead we get talk of “blackbloc” (WTF?), distributing pictures, name calling, reputation smearing…

It occurs to me we are witnessing the sealing of the echo chamber. Everyone in that room who did any “shouting down,” chasing from the room or whatever has NO INTEREST or perhaps NO ABILITY to consider other points of view other than their own. It can be a powerful pathology, and it’s reinforced when you only except input from those who have been vetted to hold the same, acceptable opinions. All the reasoned discussion in the world is drowned out when only hear your own voice returning from the walls of your echo chamber.

TrooperJohnSmith | June 8, 2012 at 12:25 pm

It’s amazing that anyone left of center fears facts, to the exclusion of their precious feeeeeeeeeelings, so badly that it elicits something approaching a deep, physical response.

Yes… like primates gettin’ their jimmies rustled!

Disclaimer: All Lefties, please note that this post contains no code words, no covert symbolic language, no secret Masonic jokes or no veiled references to the Roswell (actually, Corona, NM) UFO crash. It is instead offered as a righteous, smart-ass commentary on the perpetual, juvenile tactics of the modern political Left and its cadre of severely emasculated cadre of Omega males who wear women’s skinny jeans, embrace hipster culture and seem horribly conflicted about their male identities.

casualobserver | June 8, 2012 at 12:33 pm

Although sites like the Daily Kos have always excited only the leftmost fringes, it is interesting to see how emotional and reactive they have become. The desperate tone is growing and becoming more obvious at the same time. All but the most devoted progressives are becoming fatigued by such behavior, and thinking people are changing their minds en masse. Voting history is just one example. That certain aspects are getting more insular (this behavior proves it – no one but US shall be present!) and that other aspects are engaged in destroying property they don’t own, while masking identity, suggests they feel they have very few tools left to gain back any momentum they had. Expect more anarchy rather than more thoughtful resistance.

I am spelling out Anne Sorock’s name as they suggest.
Anne Sorock is an excellent reporter and seems to have irritated some leftwing Netroot nuts. Let’s hope Anne Sorock continues in the “Breitbart” tradition of confronting the wackos. Thanks Anne Sorock, keep up the good work.

I waded through the comments yesterday and saw this one:

Site and its founder…ewww. (32+ / 0-)
Sorry I gave them the page hit. The philosophy behind the site appears to be tea-baggist, but the blog has the surprising characteristic of educated prose. Surely an anomaly. Will wonders never cease?

by SneakySnu on Thu Jun 07, 2012 at 11:15:57 AM PDT

Now you’ve gone and done it, Professor! I predict more trolls!

l notice the Kos post with Annes picture immediatly after the confrontation was by Land of Enchantment. That pretty much says it all. Their world is based on Magic , lllusion , steming from their delusions.

TrooperJohnSmith in reply to JoAnne. | June 8, 2012 at 12:57 pm

…but the blog has the surprising characteristic of educated prose. Surely an anomaly. Will wonders never cease?

That’s a very astute observation for a KOS Kid. I guess running up 140K in student loan debt for that MA in LGBT Poetry Studies was not totally wasted. Too bad none of them have a sense of humor, and the concept of hyperbole is so lost on them, they think it’s something that rhymes with the trade name of the NFL championship game. 😉

And we wonder why blue collar workers vote against their personal interests and vote Republican. KOS types at the end of the day do not care about the issues that affect the lower economic tiers. We don’t care about gay marriage, we care about fatherless homes. We don’t care about free birth control, we care about the high costs to put gas in the car and to heat our homes.

We’re sinking, but who cares, Anne Sorock asked a question in an open forum and must be punished!

It may be of personal benefit to vote for Democrats, but why should I when I see this behavior?

One of the characteristics of confronting someone who knows they are doing wrong is an exaggerated negative response as a coping behavior on the misbehaving party. Think of it as “I know I’m doing something wrong, but you pointing it out is FAR worse, therefore if I can dump on you, I feel better about my misbehavior.”

Believe it or not, this is progress. (after all, they are supposed to be Progressives) It was such a short time ago that the Left did not even show the slightest sign of awareness about their lies and the chaos spawned in their wake. Perhaps this tiny flicker of self-awareness is the forerunner of real Change. We can only Hope.

Left Coast Red | June 8, 2012 at 12:53 pm

They’re streaming those NN panels live over at Kos. No wonder Ann flipped their collective lid. Way to go, girl.

What could be more contrary to stated liberal support for native peoples than to object when someone uses a false claim of Native American ancestry for professional and political purposes?

I hope the Professor is not under any illusion that liberals have principles.

They do not.

What they do have is emotional reactions to anything that may or may not threaten “liberalism”.

That’s it.

MaDr in reply to Browndog. | June 8, 2012 at 1:57 pm

Depends on what your definition of “principles” is.

Let’s take this one: A fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.

I’ll narrow it – A fundamental “proposition” that serves as the foundation for a system of “belief” or for a chain of reasoning.

Doesn’t say the “reasoning” needs be rational, logical, or consistent with reality/facts (see Reality Based Community).

Under this definition of “principles”, I suggest that the NutRuts are very principled, based on two of their “fundamental propositions” –

The Ends Justify the Means, and

    By All Means Necessary

Browndog in reply to MaDr. | June 8, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Going all grammar on me, eh?

Without consultation from inter-webs, I’ll base my response based on what I perceive to be the correct definitions, as I have always thought them to be since a young lad-

A “proposition” is something proposed. An idea, suggestion.

“Principles” to me, are a set of values that are a template used to weigh right and wrong, no matter the uniqueness of the circumstances.

Kinda in and out right now, so I can’t give this the proper attention–which is a shame, since I’m kinda fond of this type of debate.

Please don’t refer to these a$$holes as Liberals. They wholly fail to live up to Liberal ideals, which do condemn the hypocritical substitution of privileged people in place of people who have actually suffered harm.

They’re trying to call themselves “Progressives” these days, which is what Mark Twain would call a “sarcasm.” The policies they support are an attempt to revive old, failed, dustbin-quality Marxism, without even a hint of the wisdom that could have been obtained by a rational review of the Marxist, Stalinist and Socialist experiments of recent history, much less the capitalist experiments.

They don’t do numbers, or science, and they are graceless losers. They have nothing to do with Liberalism.

Folks, in case you are wondering, you’ve got the Liberals in this country on your side, including a former candidate for the office of Vice President, along with about half the Democratic Party, including one former President.

    Jaynie59 in reply to Valerie. | June 8, 2012 at 2:03 pm

Sorry, but I consider that just one more tactic to shut up conservatives. You call them liberal and someone gets offended. Call them Progressive and then liberals are off the hook. Call them a socialist and they call you stupid. It’s just one more tactic and it works. You can’t fight the enemy when you can’t identify them. That’s what Muslims do, too. Shiite’s blame the Sunni’s who blame the Wahabists who blame the Salafists. They all read the same Koran.

Mark Levin calls them Statists and that is the proper term. But liberals are so ignorant and ill-informed they don’t understand what that means.

It’s liberalism. Gay used to mean happy and liberals managed to change the meaning of that word. Anyone who calls themselves a liberal today is no different than the people who post at Kos. No different.

LukeHandCool | June 8, 2012 at 1:21 pm

Anne, if you’re attending the global climate change workshop at Netroots Nation, could you ask the following question for me?

“In regards to global climate change, isn’t the persistently anomalous, recurrent failure of predicted increased rates in the occurence of hurricanes actually paradoxical proof analogous to Rex Nutting’s charts showing President Obama presiding over federal spending rising at the slowest pace in history while the country’s economic roof is being torn off by the “strong economic headwinds” President Obama relentlessly invokes?”

“And just as a quick follow up question, did you know a right-wing Breitbart wannabee named Anne Sorock is wandering around disguised as Rachel Maddow?”

LukeHandCool (who encourages Anne, if all else fails, to walk to the front of the room and lock her head to the conference table leg with a bicycle lock)

and threats to use “black bloc” tactics on her.

Having been surrounded by those “Black Bloc” morons at the Chicago protests, I just have to say:

Not impressed. At all.

I was surrounded, yelled at, pushed, pointed at, chanted at, swore at.

All I felt was a nearly soul-crushing ennui.

After viewing this video I’m convinced more than ever that everything IS upside down in RI. Some readers dissed my comment on this yesterday and yet today, here you are.

Elizabeth Warren has absolutely no credibility whatsoever and yet these people are sticking up for her. How’s that for a reversal of reality?

My hat is off to Ann who was clearly in hostile territory.

The real question remains and that is, will the senatorial race in MA be decided by merit or by hyperbole?,

She needs a better disguise. She’s much too pretty to be a lib.

Elizabeth Warren is as Native American as George Zimmerman is “white.”

Those wondering why the media isn’t all over the Kimberlin-Rauhauser story should note: these tactics of intimidation and harassment and veiled threats of violence are not something out of the leftist mainstream anymore. These are prime directives, and a matter of routine.

Oh, they won’t attack anyone physically one-on-one, they don’t get to hold their one shared testicle long enough. They will either assault as part of a mob or in secret, by sneak attack like a thief in the night.

There is no longer any point in pretending we can talk, debate, persuade, or reason with these people; we cannot. They are not after truth, they lust only for power – and when they get enough to silence us finally, they will not hesitate to use it.

It’s war, whether we recognize it or not. A fight to the death.

Another significant revelation admitted by Dove Jennings is that she’s not Narragansett but a descendant of Niantic Indian tribes.

Its not that the State of Rhode Island doesn’t pay recognition to the significant historical places or culture of the Niantic, its that Dove Jennings finds insult (its racist) that she must be considered Narragansett to qualify for Federal goodies and to become an affiliate of the Harrah’s Entertainment Tribe.

You see, many tribes throughout the nation dwindled in population, banded together and moved so much it was difficult for the government to keep accurate records.

But the key point is that she lowered the bar for Fuaxcahontas, leaving the (its racist) door open because… Warren’s feely of being Cherokee doesn’t mean (in her mind) that she is not some other band of Native American tribe “because their are so many people not wanting to acknowledge who they are” because … they simply won’t get the goodies.

Which brings us the essence of what idealistic liberal progressivism does to destroy cultures, fundamental social and religious traditions that are the core underpinnings of communities… the bar must be lowered so that all may easily step over or snakes like Warren are allowed to belly under in the name of reform, equality and freedom.

1) what did you expect?
2) what did you tell her to expect when she started writing for you?
3) these people are _*NOT*_ good-hearted Liberals. They are the enemy.
4) Alinsky tactics are proven effective tools. Use them against the Liberal enemy.

Defeat them. Don’t beat them, defeat them. Don’t stop beating them until they are pariahs in the “town square”.

First of all Anne, you take a wonderful picture and possess a beautiful smile AND you are one brave woman!

With each passing example of the intolerance of the left for people of differing opinions, I become more convinced that if these people are not defeated in the arena of ideas our republic might one day resemble the Germany of the 1930s. I continue to be amazed how the left refuses to debate and answer for their thoughts, philosophy and actions and their first, and it appears their only response, is to attempt to destroy people’s reputations and their livelihoods. We cannot allow these constitutional termites any more power and we need to continue to stand up and fight as the people of Wisconsin have shown using truth and courage.

One very important FACT everyone must remember is that ALL liberals, progressives, leftists, democrats, greens, feminists, multiculturalists, PC lovers, UN supporters, etc… only care–ONLY CARE–about one thing: the advancement of worldwide Marxism/Socialism/Communism. PERIOD DOT. Every issue they supposedly support or advocate is nothing more than a means to their Marxist ends. So, by saying they are “hypocrites” with “no shame”, although absolutely true, misses badly on characterizing them, which they like.
