I appeared earlier today on America Talks Live, with Steve Malzberg. The discussion centered on two big developments today, the reports that Susan Rice "unmasked" Trump campaign and transition officials names from intelligence reports, and the Neil Gorsuch nomination and the threat of a filibuster. On Rice, Steve used my post earlier today, Susan Rice unmasked? Previously said “I know nothing about” Nunes allegations. Here are some of my comments:

Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice, infamous for lying repeatedly on national television about the Benghazi attack being the result of a video, may be at the center of the "unmasking" scandal uncovered by Congressman Devin Nunes. We covered yesterday how Dems want Devin Nunes removed, but can’t unhear unmasking allegations. Devin Nunes is now the object of Democrat ire because of his claim that he has seen evidence that presents a possible problem with "unmasking" names of Trump campaign and administration officials by the Obama administration unrelated to Russia. The allegations are explosive and could open up a wide investigation of Obama administration officials. That is not what Democrats want, they want investigations focused solely on the as yet unproven claim that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia in the campaign.

Fox News is reporting the individual who unmasked names of US citizens in intelligence reports is a high-ranking, well-known individual. The network also alleges Trump and the names of members of his transition team were unmasked for purely political purposes. Adam Housely, Fox News reporter on the Nunes/intel report beat, confirmed a New York Times report from Thursday, which named two individuals they believed were Nunes sources. Housely clarified that Ezra Cohen-Watnick and Michael Ellis were not sources but were helping Chairman of the House Intel Committee, Rep. Devin Nunes, navigate the intel waters. Nunes' source is still unknown.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) made headlines, when surprising everyone who was not him, just days after FBI Director Comey testified before Congress, he held a press conference to announce members of Trump's transition team were "incidentally" surveilled and unmasked by the Obama administration. Since making the initial claims, Nunes' story has been dynamic and difficult to track. It's also worth noting that Nunes was part of Trump's White House transition team. (I imagine he saw his name in these mysterious intel briefings and wigged out. But that's purely speculation.) Now, Rep. Nunes claims he met with his inside source on White House grounds, the day before he made his announcement.

House Intelligence Chair Devin Nunes is standing by his claim that the Trump transition team was under surveillance during Obama's tenure. Nunes appeared on the Sean Hannity show last night to discuss the issue. Here are a few key takeaways:
  • The surveillance occurred in November, December and January. Nunes thinks this is serious and warrants examination by the Trump administration.
  • The intelligence was disseminated "far and wide" among various agencies. Nunes says that it appears to have been done legally but questions why it was done in the first place.
  • Nunes suggests that the identities of other Americans besides General Flynn were unmasked. Also, it is still unknown who did the unmasking and how many people were involved in that action.

Did the Trump White House use the House intel committee chairman to divert attention from the committee's investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russians? That's what Joe Scarborough suggested on today's Morning Joe.  Scarborough said that his reporting suggests that the White House "shoved" committee chairman Devin Nunes in front of the cameras to reveal that communications of President Trump and associates may have been intercepted after the election by intelligence agencies conducting surveillance of foreign targets. Scarborough: "it just looked like, and sounded like from some reporting I did yesterday, that you had the White House desperate to do anything to change headlines this morning, because, again, from the reporting I did yesterday, talking to people in the White House, they were so desperate to change the narrative that it looks like they shoved him out with this information—just any information, anything—to change the headlines. And to blow up the investigation in the House. And it looks like that's exactly what they did."

Wednesday, Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), held a press conference where he claimed he possessed proof that "U.S. citizens involved in the Trump transition" were "incidentally" surveilled by the Obama administration. Nunes clarified that the evidence he'd reviewed was not related to, "Russia, the investigation of Russian activities, or the Trump team." Rep. Nunes' announcement came as a shock to ranking committee Democrats, who learned the news via the press conference. The White House was also unaware of Nunes' findings until the press conference. An Intelligence Community (IC) insider approached Rep. Nunes with the bombshell evidence after FBI Director Comey's testimony before Congress Monday. Or at least that's what Nunes claims.

This story continues to develop, so we'll be updating the post accordingly. Amid President Trump's claims the Obama administration "wiretapped" him prior to taking office, comes this little tidbit from the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA). In a press conference Wednesday, Nunes confirmed, "on numerous occasions, the intelligence community incidentally collected information about U.S. citizens involved in the Trump transition."

FBI Director James Comey and NSA Director Mike Rogers addressed the House Intelligence Committee today about allegations of Russian interference with our presidential election and President Donald Trump's accusations that former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower. Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) told Fox News on Sunday that the wiretap never happened. Top Democrat Adam Schiff expects "Comey to rebut the president's claim" at the hearing.

House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes announced there is no evidence of communication between President Donald Trump's team and Russian officials:
“There is no evidence that I’ve been presented [by the intelligence community] of regular contact with anybody in the Trump campaign,” Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) told reporters. “The way it sounds like to me is, it’s been looked into and there’s no evidence of anything there.”

The House and Senate have become agitated with the CIA as the agency has continued to deny both sectors with briefings or information on claims that Russia hacked into America's election, but passed information to the mainstream media. Senate Homeland Security Chairman Ron Johnson (R-WI) told a radio station in his home state that the CIA just denied his request for a briefing:
“I’m not happy they denied a briefing to me,” the Wisconsin Republican told a public radio interviewer in his home state on Friday morning. “I need information from the administration, and right now they're withholding it.”

Since the night of the election, when media coverage of election night went from joyous to stunned to near-weepy, the progressive left has been in a self-righteous lather about President-elect Trump's victory.  They are pulling out all stops in an effort to undermine President-elect Trump and his presidency.  Indeed, they seem intent on seeing that he not take office at all. Blaming everything and everyone but themselves and their candidate (with a few notable exceptions), the left took to the streets to riot, they took up their pens to advocate the end of the Electoral College, they bully and harass electors attempting to sway their votes, and they've recently landed on Russian involvement in the elections.
