The central Obamacare lie is as historic as this presidency

The central Obamacare lie is as historic as this presidency

Obama lied us into Obamacare

By now the statements are legion.

You can keep your doctor and your insurance plan if you want to.  Guaranteed.

It was more of a “lie” than George W. Bush’s statements regarding Iraq having WMD stockpiles, which were in reliance on faulty intelligence that most Democrats and others in the world believed too.

With Obama, there was no bi-partisan cheering section as there was with Iraq.

There never was a basis for the categorical sales pitch.

To the contrary, a loud chorus of voices insisted that there was no basis for Obama’s statements and that the result would be what it is today: Millions and eventually possibly tens of millions of American will not get to keep their doctor and their insurance plan.

Obama himself played the central role in the creation of BernieMadoff.healthcare.gov.

Jonah Goldberg calls it possibly the greatest policy lie by any President ever.  It’s hard to dispute that.

To use the narrative of the left against Bush, Obama “lied us into” Obamacare. Except this time the “lied us into” sentence structure is a truthful assessment.

Ron Johnson (R-WI) is proposing the ‘If You Like Your Health Plan, You Can Keep It Act’:

“The ‘If You Like Your Health Plan, You Can Keep It Act’ will amend the law to make Obamacare live up to the promises of the politicians who sold the plan to the American public. I will file the bill in the coming week and hope to garner support from fellow Senators of both parties who truly want to make sure President Obama honors his promise that every American has the freedom to keep his or her own health care plan.”

Isn’t Johnson’s bill missing the point? The bill should remove the requirements of insurance to add in coverage for things like 60 year old women being covered for maternity.

It’s the onerous requirements that are shutting down the privately held insurance plans.

They should do more than just make a point with this bill. It should have some teeth.

Unless Johnson plans to send the Bill back in a time maching – it is just a PR stunt. The numbers of people already kicked off their health plans are much larger than are being reported.

It is two years too late.

      What? What? What, what, what????

You mean Obama isn’t African-American either?????

      Oh yeah…that’s right…he’s Saudi Arabian-Micronesian….

“It was more of a “lie” than George W. Bush’s statements regarding Iraq having WMD stockpiles, which were in reliance on faulty intelligence that most Democrats and others in the world believed too.”

If one looks deeply into this, one might conclude that the “alleged” WMD stockpiles made their way to Syria considering recent developments there and the fact that dozens of convoys made their way from Iraq to Syria prior to the commencement of hostilities a decade ago.

So maybe GWB wasn’t lying at all…

Since when is repeating a “factual” intelligence report a lie?

Yes, and there is that pesky UN Weapons Inspector’s inventory of WMD in Iraq before they were kicked out. So we know they were there, and Hussein (not Soetero, the other one) refused to account for them. So what would a reasonable person think? Or in this case, the intelligence arms of numerous governments, and both houses of the US congress? But hey… BUSH LIED! has such a nice ring to it for marxist piglets everywhere.

“It was more of a “lie” than George W. Bush’s statements regarding Iraq having WMD stockpiles”

Not this lefty meme again.

Iraq had chemical weapons. We found them after the invasion. The amount of WMDs Hussein had was *much* less then expected, but to say they did not have them – even at the time of the invasion – is false.

Oh, and they also still had an uranium stockpile, and had tried to acquire more just a few years before 9/11.

    gasper in reply to 18-1. | October 28, 2013 at 11:31 am

I imagine that’s why the word “lie” is in quotes in the article. It’s not repeating the meme. It’s refuting it.

beat me to it, thank you.
why do people think wmd are only nukes?
anyone who has trained in a MOPP suit knows about the WMD Triad, bio/chem/nuke.

What a lot of us are missing is that this is unprecedented.

I cannot think of a time when we were directly, intentionally fed flat-footed lies by a President of the United States.

I CAN think of times when a president spun an event or circumstance to further an agenda. The Gulf Of Tonkin comes to mind.

I can think of times when a president has simply been wrong in what he related, while having a good-faith basis for believing it true.

But what Barracula has done is simply lie, knowing what he was saying was a lie…or a long string of lies.

Obama has surpassed Nixon’s “Well, I am not a crook!” and Clinton’s “I did not have sex with that woman!” because of the constant knowing repetition of his “if you like your doctor and plan, you can keep your doctor and plan” lies, but more because of what he was hiding.

Obama has not merely lied. He has lied in the commission of fraud.

But frauds committed by governments are not illegal since it is government that makes and enforces the rules.

By way of example, I give you the Federal Reserve printing money to the tune of $1 trillion a year. Counterfeiting is a crime unless you are the government agency or approved entity in charge of committing it.

Representative government is a fraud when politicians can lie without consequence, and so ruled by the judicial branch of our government. (yeap and actual court case) Elections only have consequences when the voter actually votes.

You see, some of us are more equal than others. Never you mind income disparity, it is a ruse to cover for the greatest disparity of all, accountability disparity.

Radegunda in reply to Henry Hawkins. | October 28, 2013 at 12:57 pm

Seems to me that Clinton’s lies went well beyond the “I did not have …” that everyone cites. Many people were marveling at how casually (and effectively) he made statements he had to know were false. I remember several of them being listed and refuted by a newspaper that is certainly not conservative.

But Obama has clearly surpassed Clinton in the brazenness of his lies. I think Clinton knew he was speaking counterfactually for self-serving purposes. Obama’s psyche is so messed up that he may not even recognize any difference between a fact and a self-serving assertion.

We kept hearing from the Left how immoral it was to shut the government down. So the Right cuts a deal to re-open it and now 100% of the talk is about the problems with Obamacare. Today it’s morphing into how the administration lied. It’s an all-consuming topic everywhere you go.

I’ll bet the Left wishes the government were still shut down. Be careful what you wish for……..

What about “Read my lips, no new taxes.” (G. H. W. Bush the father) ?

creeper in reply to Lina Inverse. | October 29, 2013 at 8:54 am

Yes, that’s the one that came to my mind. Of course, Bush-1 couldn’t have known at the time that he’d be caving in on taxes just a few short years later.

You are missing the point… The purpose of the lie was to cover up the bigger lie via a distraction. The bigger lie? It’s being told right now by the MSM, that ObamaCare is depending upon younger (30 and under, presumably healthy) people to enroll to get health insurance for the first time in order to subsidize those with greater medical needs. It is a LIE.

WHY would young people who weren’t signing up for health insurance before due to cost now sign up on a plan that would cost MORE????? Why then would you allow those 25 and younger to go on their parent’s policy to avoid being soaked individually under ObamaCare in the name of cost savings?

The truth is they wouldn’t now for the same reason they wouldn’t then.

Those who crafted ObamaCare knew this going in and therefore they deliberately deceived those with good intentions to unknowingly condone this falsity through their naivety. They knew from the beginning that those who pay for health insurance now would pay more under ObamaCare because they were already in the habit of having it and therefore would feel trapped and vulnerable without health insurance, meaning they would pay anything no matter how much. They were the perfect suckers. The younger people who didn’t feel the need for health insurance in the first place could only be coerced into having insurance via a law and their penalty was a pittance of a fine/tax ($95 to max of 1% of their income).

The truth is that millions of people losing their health insurance was the central SUCCESSFUL feature of ObamaCare. The truth is that the only source of reliable funding for the subsidy was from existing premium payers (just like MassCare). The truth is that IF people were stupid/trusting/naive enough to allow ObamaCare into law in the first place then they would be stupid/trusting/naive enough to allow themselves to be bullied like sheep by the very same law into getting a more expensive ObamaCare policy under the fig leaf of greater coverage (which few would use).

We have to burn down the village to save it just as we have to cause millions to lose their policies to insure everyone. THAT IS THEE LIE above all other lies.

Joe Manchin is trying to temper that lie as a means to distance himself from it via his bill. ObamaCare can not work without EVERYONE paying MORE, period.

“The truth is that IF people were stupid/trusting/naive enough to allow ObamaCare into law in the first place…”

I am never going to let a statement like that pass. 85% of the American people opposed ObamaCare at its inception. We called, wrote, went to town hall meetings, MA elected a republican.
We were ignored by politicians and maligned by the media. Democrats pretended something they did in the middle of the night at the 11.99th was legitimate and going along with the pretense, Obama signed it. I know that is daring to write on a blog full of lawyers but there ya have it, it is what I believe.

What I am trying to understand now is how two things we were/are told reconcile: 1) The insurance industry wrote the law and 2) the law insures the destruction of the insurance industry. What is really happening?

Is this something we have seen before – privatize profits and publicize risk. I am going to hit submit now and run.

Obama was re-elected, Obama himself has pointed to this fact as his vindication of ObamaCare. Who elected Obama? 85% of those holding a negative opinion doesn’t count when they don’t show up at election time. Elections have consequences. So who’s fault is this disaster? The American non-Voter’s fault. Every adult who failed to vote holding the opinion of the 85% is at fault for this.

So my comment stands, Stupid/trusting/naive are the three descriptions of those who failed to vote and thus condoned ObamaCare, for IF they voted for Romney, he would have been president and ObamaCare repealed.

Now after 12 million plus people lose their health insurance here in January 2014 will the Senate be in GOP hands in November 2014? None of us can answer based on the stupidity/trusting/naive non voter’s track record.

There are lies and then there are damned lies. It takes a dupe to be duped, just as it takes a liar to lie, you can’t have one without the other, perversity of human nature is that the dupe requires the liar because lies are what we want to believe since reality sucks.

We now know, of course, that Obama stole the election via the means of using the IRS to suppress, for years, his political opposition.

Therefore, his “re-election” can have no true meaning in a republic based on the individual franchise and the consent of the ruled.

Obama’s theft of the Presidency gives him no more authority to rule than the theft of my car gives the thief authority to drive it around.

        — Andrew, @LawSelfDefense

I will also point out that ObamaCare was NOT really an issue that was debated during the election. As everyone who opposed the abomination of law clearly saw back in 2009/2010, it was craftily constructed so as to delay “the pain” past the 2012 election campaign. And of course the media dutifully avoided raising it as an issue otherwise. And so the sheep were led to think about dogs in car carriers (but not Soetero’s stomach), binders full of women, the 47%, lies about Benghazi and loads of other shyte. How pathetic.

Henry Hawkins in reply to Andrew Branca. | October 28, 2013 at 4:14 pm

That a reelection automatically confers political power is bullshit. It usually does, for a year or two at best, but not for always. Sometimes, however, that reelection mojo is gone in thirty seconds, as was Obama’s due to the constant stream of demonstrable lies, scandals large and small, hyper-regulation, and the rest of the mess that is Obama. His reelection mandates absolutely nothing.

And yet the thief still drives the car… until it is wrested from him by the police.

Possession is 9/10ths of the Law

There is no good or evil: only power and those too weak to seek it.
-Voldemort, character of the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling

“The man who is to be great is the one who can be the most solitary, the most hidden, the most deviant, the man beyond good and evil, lord of his virtues, a man lavishly endowed with will – this is precisely what greatness is to be called: it is able to be as much a totality as something multi-faceted, as wide as it is full.”
          — Friedrich Nietzsche

The fact is Obama is still President whether we like it or not and thus wields power according to his design in defiance to the old order, he is the new order, if it were not so he would not be President, just like the car thief he is until someone takes it from him. Democrats are/will be facing a choice, their agenda or the Republic.

Good points. Personally, as a freelance musician way back when I never had health insurance -nor did I need it – until I was in my late 30’s and finally decided I wanted some stability and went into teaching.

Even if I could have afforded it (which I couldn’t) I would not have bought it because, as everyone knows, the young are invincible. /s

“WHY would young people who weren’t signing up for health insurance before due to cost now sign up on a plan that would cost MORE????? ”

Because they have to pay a fine if they don’t.

Yes, the fine is “minimal” now but it won’t be in four years. You can’t opt out of the cost. Whether or not you get insurance coverage is up to you but you’re going to pay and pay and pay.

What difference, at this point, does it make?

What will happen? The GOP has pretty much declared it has no will to defund or fight and that it now intends to collude in the “fixes” and thereby the failure. Meanwhile, their real and single uncompromising mission will be the destruction of the Tea Party. The media will continue its temporizing and excuse-making on behalf of Obamacare and Obama, dedicating itself in the last three years of his presidency to a legacy salvage campaign. It’s shaping up as Ted Cruz (and his undetermined legion of unknown fortitude) against the world.

Great find.

Jonah nails it. Biggest presidential lie in U.S. history.

Now will he be held accountable? I’m not gonna hold my breath.

Try this little study in your own home town.

Call around and see how many Doctors are still accepting new patients.

My wife used to go to a Dr close to her work place, but now she telecommutes and wanted one close to our house. She called FOUR clinics… none are accepting new patients.

My guess is they don’t want any of the new Medicaid patients and they don’t want the high deductible patients who don’t have 10 cents to their name to pay a bill.

MaggotAtBroadAndWall | October 28, 2013 at 11:44 am

To me, the most terrifying aspect of all of this is the unwillingness of Obama supporters to hold him accountable.

Republicans forced Nixon out of office. Republicans forced Newt to resign his speakership (we know now wrongly). Republicans helped push GWB’s approval rating to the low 30s when Iraq turned into a protracted quagmire.

Obama supporters just don’t seem to care no matter how poorly he performs. His approval ratings refuse to budge from the low to mid 40s. I find it dangerous and frightening that almost half the country won’t even express disapproval to pollsters for the blatant lying, corruption, and unconstitutional lawlessness that has been a hallmark of this administration from day one.

I have some friends who are very smart and were certainly Obama-supporters, having spent all their lives among leftists. They’re also very nice, and they know I’m a conservative. We avoid political topics to maintain the friendship. Awhile back, one of them asked, in all sincerity, if I could explain the Tea Party movement, which I did more timidly than I should have. (Then she mentioned OWS and said it was great to hear someone speaking for the 99%.)

I’m planning to mention, casually, “I’m losing my insurance, and affordable options are now illegal, and my brother’s premiums have doubled too, and it will be difficult for him to pay that much, but he definitely needs insurance in his line of work.” Those are not political statements, just objective facts. Will be interesting to see how they react.

RE: It was more of a “lie” than George W. Bush’s statements regarding Iraq having WMD stockpiles

I do not know about stockpiles but the Kurds are convinced that the thousands kill in Halabja were killed by Iraqi mustard gas and sarin, that Saddam had WMDs and that Saddam used WMDs. The question responsible people should ask is what became of these WMDs.

Wait, if the “success” of ObamaCare depends on The Millenials signing up to keep everyone’s premiums low doesn’t that make the 1,200 OBAMACARE WAIVERS ILLEGITIMATE?

Those 1,200 organizations with waivers have 100,000s of employees. Wouldn’t the program be helped if those suckers, um, workers had to sign up as well?

Henry Hawkins in reply to Howard Roark. | October 28, 2013 at 4:20 pm

With something as ugly and poorly designed as Obamacare, the biggest kickback one can offer for supporting it is not a free seat at the Obamacare table – nobody wants that – but an *exemption* from it. That’s the best gift supporters can hope for – exemption. It is a tacit admission that Obamacare is crap if exemptions are the currency of the bribery required to pass it.

Midwest Rhino | October 28, 2013 at 5:19 pm

Ranking the really big deliberate lies is difficult … in total, OBAMA is a lie.

The big lie tied to this “keep your doctor” lie, is that taxes will not go up one nickel if you earn under $250,000.

Obamacare penalties are taxes, for one thing. But when one person’s health care skyrockets 100%, because their money is used to cover another person’s previous condition, or pregnancy, or illegals … that amounts to the largest middle class tax increase in history. Rather the opposite of “not one nickel”.

Other big lies:

* Bill Ayers, just a guy in the neighborhood, not a domestic flag stomping terrorist friend that helped launch Obama’s campaign (and probably crafted Obama’s books)

* Never heard Rev. Wright say those controversial things in 20 years … but afaik, Wright’s “black theology” church supported the Sandinistas in the 80’s, and Obama supported drug cartel friend Zelaya’s attempt to turn Honduras back toward a banana republic. Obama mirrors Wright’s anti-America rhetoric.

* Was never a socialist … yet he is tied to the “New Party”, and has a multitude of leftist/socialist/communist friends tied closely to his administration. Obama’s earlier mentor was an avowed, FBI watched communist. His immediate family wast socialist/communist.

* Benghazi … even 60 minutes is finally reporting part on that, though editing out the worst parts (I believe)

* countless more … like no nukes for Iran, his Syria red line, transparency and negotiations on C-SPAN, no lobbyists in his administration, close Guantanamo, cut Bush’s deficits in half (from then $550B, not after tripling it to $1.5T), etc.

Midwest Rhino in reply to Midwest Rhino. | October 28, 2013 at 5:53 pm

So many of those were so obviously big fat lies. A 30 second commercial could cover them all, if done well, with Obama highlighted as liar in chief.

Close with “look at your health care costs and ask yourself, should you EVER trust a Democrat again?”

or something like that … get Hillary in their maybe, or Lieawatha Warren.

[…] in order to protect Barack Obama. Americans are not informed about ObaminationCare because of Barack Obama’s lies and Big Media complicity in those lies. Big Media did not tell Americans the truth when it mattered and now Americans are feeling the whip […]

As the media dutifully distracts for the administrations with their “no duh” reports on “obama lied about keeping your healthcare and the Benghazi revelations, nobody is covering the other hand of this piece of shit in the white house.

What is he cooking up now? EO or amnesty maybe…bribing or threatening the GOP on caving on that same subject?
