RNC Chooses NBC News to Host Third Republican Presidential Primary Debate

Why NBC News?

The Republican National Committee chose NBC News to host the third Republican presidential primary debate in Miami because of course:

Today, the Republican National Committee (RNC) announced that it has selected NBC News, Salem Radio Network, the Republican Jewish Coalition, and Rumble as partners for the third Republican presidential primary debate, which will take place at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County on November 8, 2023. As with the first and second debates, Rumble will be the exclusive RNC livestream provider and the RNC’s exclusive online home for the third debate.

“I am eager to announce that the RNC has selected NBC News, Salem Radio Network, the Republican Jewish Coalition, and Rumble as our partners for the third Republican primary debate in Miami. The partners for our third debate will offer our candidates an excellent opportunity to meet the moment and contrast their plans and vision with the failures of the Biden White House.” – RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel

“NBC News has a long history of fostering conversations with the leaders that seek to shape domestic politics and foreign policy. For us, there is no higher responsibility. We look forward to continuing our leading reporting on the 2024 presidential race and spotlighting the issues that matter most to voters as they head to the polls.” – Rebecca Blumenstein, President of NBC News Editorial

The press release did not include the moderators or the format. We also do not know who will qualify to be on the stage:

To qualify, candidates must have campaign contributions from at least 70,000 unique donors. They must also register at least 4% in two national polls or in one national poll and one early-state poll that meets the RNC’s polling requirements. Qualifying candidates must also pledge to support the eventual GOP nominee.

I bet President Donald Trump won’t be there.

But why choose NBC News? I cannot think of one person at NBC or MSNBC who could act as a neutral and non-partisan moderator.

This lady has a great point, though. Does it even matter?

They’re both barely disguised, controlled opposition.

That Trump backed her is insane. She is completely ineffective for the RNC. She needs to go.

      AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to EBL. | October 16, 2023 at 5:27 pm

Quite frankly, the RNC is as useful for the citizenry as is the DNC.

The difference between the two camps can be measured by the width of the same coin that each side is on.

Bought and paid for shills for global elites, monied interests and global corporations.

The saying many years ago was that there wasn’t a dimes worth or difference between the parties. When you are looking at the RNC and establishment GOP vs the DNC I think that is still largely true.

For anyone that wants to point out that the RNC is far different than the woke division of the Democrats I would argue that the GOPe has enabled and sometimes supported the woke agenda for years. I do agree that even the RNC/GOPe does not support the radical anti-semitism of the Democrat academia and culture elites, which is in the spotlight now after the Hamas murders and atrocities.

      diver64 in reply to EBL. | October 16, 2023 at 7:04 pm

Ineffective is one way of describing a total disaster. She and her swamp brethren are why the RNC will not see a dime from me. I’m just surprised she didn’t name Wayne as her lieutenant.

That’s probably why Trump endorsed her to lead the Republican National Committee.

thalesofmiletus | October 16, 2023 at 3:08 pm

The RNC selecting a premiere fake news outlet to host a debate is just another living example of why Trump is, and must be, the candidate.

The GOP needed to pivot toward the General Election immediately after the first debate. It showed that none of the also-rans are anywhere near ready of the office at this time. Biden is weak. This is the hour. Trump is the man.

Too many Republicans in the Republican party. Too few Democrats in the Dem party.

These so-called ‘debates’ are a joke. The RNC is desperate to pretend that the also-rans have a chance, and all they’ve done is give Trump the perfect excuse to not bother to show up.

The format is HORRIFICALLY bad to start off with, and encourages pre-canned sound bite answers, and clutters it up with a bunch of loser also-rans to give even less time.

If they’d said the first debate would just be between the 3 front runners (at the time DeSantis, Vivek, and Trump), then they probably could have forced Trump to show up and defend himself.

Instead, because of their insistence in pretending that Trump wasn’t effectively the incumbent and setting the threshold for the first ‘debate’ at a ludicrous 1% polling, they’ve lost any chance they had to actually force him into a real debate.

Trump did actively push for Rona McDaniel to be granted another term as RNC Chair, despite her totally inept performances in ’18, ’20 and ’22. Many of us wondered just WTF Trump was thinking in doing that when his support put her over the top in fighting off her challengers. It’s entirely plausible that McDaniel’s bizarre decisions about the debates are deliberately intended to assist Trump, alternatively she may just be incredibly incompetent.

      AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to CommoChief. | October 16, 2023 at 5:30 pm

      Chief

I’ll take incredibly incompetent for $600, please.

Maybe so it’s equally plausible. That does beg the question of why Trump, who had far more 1st hand interactions with her incompetent ass than we, would support this establishment hack and not use the opportunity to overturn the establishment grip on the post of RNC Chair. Was it another misjudgment on who should be in top positions on his part? Do we put it down to another refusal to face down the DC establishment head on in public as with his failure to use the Veto to fight for the border wall? WTF did he choose to throw his considerable base of support behind her, again to be RNC Chair?

      “deliberately intended to assist Trump”
Ronna has zero black sheep cred, and her family would disown her.

CommoChief in reply to henrybowman. | October 16, 2023 at 7:16 pm

Still though, when we examine who benefits from her incompetence the clear winner is Trump. 4D chess on his part by supporting such an incompetent hack or blind luck?

Mauiobserver in reply to CommoChief. | October 16, 2023 at 7:30 pm

I suspect that she made promises to Trump to try to bring on GOPe support but much like McCain on Obama care the professional GOPe elites only keep promises to honor their commitments if their careers and gravy train are at stake.

henrybowman in reply to CommoChief. | October 17, 2023 at 1:15 pm

I think we’ve all established by now that Ronnie’s game is poker, not chess. And his major failing is not being able to recognize a table full of cheaters.

I’m sure that it will be a ratings winner.

I keep looking at Mzz James’s given name and want to, ahh, err, uhm… pronounce it in four syllables

I’d rather buy an EV than watch a Trumpless debate

Of course they did, and they’ve just guaranteed I won’t bother to watch the next one either. Because I don’t watch fake news outlets.

What a waste.

They won’t ever learn not to do a Marxist/ Socialists talking points gotcha.

I suffered through the first one, but turned off #2 halfway through. Makes the Ds’ “seven drawfs” of the 1992 D primary season look like statesmen by comparsion. I was embarrassed for them.

Talk about a waste of time. The RNC is trying to make someone else but Trump the front runner but they are showing that the RNC is useless and is not working for the people.

We should stop having debates with journalist moderators. The debates all become about clever “gotcha” questions that the moderators can high-five their colleagues about during the after-party.
Let’s have smaller groups doing real debates with constructive and rebuttal speeches. Lincoln and Douglas debated for three hours at a whack, with 60-minute constructives and 30 minute rebuttals. Surely we can tolerate 10 and 5? Or 20 and 10?

Olinser in reply to John M. | October 17, 2023 at 1:35 am

They need to either sit down podcast-style with an ACTUAL moderator who does this kind of thing for a living, or they need to have actual conservative voters submit and vote on the questions asked.

2smartforlibs | October 16, 2023 at 4:46 pm

Time to tell the RINOs running the GOP to take a hike.

No way is Pence polling 4%. He can’t even meet the low bar donor req.

Oct 12 RCP

Trump 59, DeSantis 13, Haley 10, Ramaswamy 7, Pence 4, Christie 3, Scott 1, Burgum 0, Hutchinson 1

Should Trump run to this debate?

American Human | October 16, 2023 at 5:17 pm

NBC News huh? Well, what could go wrong?

irishgladiator63 | October 16, 2023 at 5:26 pm

I bet they added NBC because, in their feeble minds, they think they need to balance out Rumble. Wouldn’t want people to think the Republican party is conservative or anything.

Clueless. It’s bad enough that the debates use a horrible format and include too many “candidates” who don’t have a snowball’s chance of winning the nomination, now the rocket scientists at the RNC let the Republican hating socialists at NBC frame the issues for debate.

Ronna Romney McDaniel needs to go. How about replacing her with The Wall Street Journal’s Kim Strassel or The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway (I love her tweet above).

McDaniel followed Reince Priebus, who followed Michael Steele. How many GOPe losers do we need? To quote Justice Oliver Wendall Holmes: “three generations of imbeciles are enough.” Time to make a change.

MoeHowardwasright | October 16, 2023 at 6:38 pm

Waste of time. I haven’t watched a single one these scripted sh$t shows. Rona was installed to make sure Trump was nominated. No other reason. Otherwise there would have been a specific clause that if you don’t participate in the debates you can’t be the nominee. Trump wants desperately to avoid having to defend his record on Covid and the clot shots. Not to mention the fact that he cannot hire any competent people in the most important jobs. FJB

I’m beginning to agree with your outlook. Trump gave Fauci a medal for his lying incompetent running of the debacle and compounded that by bizarre attacks on DeSantis claiming he was a disaster on his COVID response

These things are a total waste of time. Everyone yaking over the top of each other all trying to get their poll tested zinger in. Nothing is gained in this

Alexander Scipio | October 16, 2023 at 7:51 pm

Stupidest woman on planet earth.

The RNC is worse than worthless.

That’s odd. It looks like a unanimous veto of NBC for the debate, but nobody has suggested an alternative – not that anybody else would get a bigger audience or better moderators, but somebody here must have at least a suggestion for an alternative.

    Disgusted in reply to txvet2. | October 17, 2023 at 3:34 am

Here’s an alternative. Invite the top four candidates (Trump will probably continue to pass). Put them in a soundproof booth with a microphone. Each candidate gets 30 minutes of talking time. One Mike is live at any time. The candidates can blab for as long as they want, but when they’re out of time, they’re out of time. Find three reputable conservative pundits (Glenn Reynolds’s/ William Jacobson/ Kim Strassel/ Mollie Hemingway. Have them prepare one sentence open ended questions (what’s your plan for social security? Ukraine? Gaza? Abortion?). No gotcha questions and no followups. Candidates who answer the questions with short sentences and small words will get support. Candidates can use their time to answer the questions, attack their opponents, or just give a stump speech. I believe in the power of ideas. Debates should focus on ideas—rather than rudeness, talking over each other, and talking to hear the sound of one’s own voice. I’d watch such a debate.

    Eric R. in reply to txvet2. | October 17, 2023 at 8:20 am

The biggest platform outside of TV would be Joe Rogan. He is not a conservative but he has also gotten fed up with the far left.

Megyn Kelly might be another. And yes, she talks to Trump and they both consider that 2016 debate as water under the bridge.

James Carville was unavailable?

“NBC News has a long history of fostering conversations with the leaders that seek to shape domestic politics and foreign policy.”

HAHAHAHAHA!

Bucky Barkingham | October 17, 2023 at 6:57 am

She chooses Trump hating NBC and then will criticize Trump for not participating.

Just shows that the GOP is controlled by the Democrat/Communist Party. We have no effective opposition now. We might as well hoist the Hammer and Sickle.

Capitalist-Dad | October 17, 2023 at 9:40 am

Zero information possible when the debate clown show is a cast of thousands and the questioners are from the television version of Pravda. Hard pass!
