Georgia Black Religious Leaders Demand Home Depot Boycott Over Silence on Voting Laws
NC Gov. Cooper and MI Gov. Whitmer sent out a letter to businesses, pressuring them to “speak out” against voting bills across the country.
Home Depot, based in Georgia, had the nerve to stay silent as others screamed about Georgia’s new voting laws. Black religious leaders are now urging people to boycott the company over that silence.
Two Democrat governors are also applying pressure on businesses.
Hey, private businesses. You must get involved in politics. You cannot go about your day, provide goods and services for people, and make jobs.
You all must listen to the left and not question them. You must accept their interpretation of the new Georgia voting laws, even though they’re stretching the truth and lying.
From The New York Times:
The call for a boycott, led by Bishop Reginald T. Jackson, who oversees all 534 African Methodist Episcopal churches in Georgia, represents one of the first major steps to put significant economic pressure on businesses to be more vocal in opposing Republican efforts in Georgia and around the country to enact new restrictions on voting.
“We don’t believe this is simply a political matter,” Bishop Jackson said in an interview. “This is a matter that deals with securing the future of this democracy, and the greatest right in this democracy is the right to vote.”
Home Depot, Mr. Jackson said, “demonstrated an indifference, a lack of response to the call, not only from clergy, but a call from other groups to speak out in opposition to this legislation.”
Jackson wants four things:
- Speak out against the law
- Publicly oppose similar bills in other states
- Support the John Lewis Voting Rights Act in Congress
- Back litigation against the Georgia voting law
Georgia-based companies Coca-Cola and Delta came out strong against the law. Home Depot only said, “the most appropriate approach for us to take is to continue to underscore our belief that all elections should be accessible, fair and secure.”
Arthur Blank, one of Home Depot’s founders, told other business executives “he supported voting rights.” Ken Langone, another founder, supported President Donald Trump.
We also have North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, both Democrats, pressuring businesses to get politically involved:
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer have helped organize a bipartisan letter calling on businesses to speak out against a flurry of bills introduced across the country that would restrict voting access.
The open letter, obtained by McClatchy, was signed by more than 50 current and former governors, lieutenant governors, state attorneys general and secretaries of state, who described themselves as “deeply concerned about the wave of voter restrictions sweeping the country.”
“We are asking the business leaders in our states, and throughout the country, to add their voices to the growing chorus of corporations standing on the right side of history,” the letter reads.
—
“More than 360 bills aimed at restricting voting access have been introduced across 47 states,” the letter reads. “Many of them are based on the same lies that led to violence during the 2020 elections, and they add barriers to voting that disproportionately impact voters of color, the elderly, our veterans, and those with disabilities.”
Cooper and Whitmer, both Democrats, co-sponsored the letter with three former Republican governors, Arne Carlson of Minnesota, Bill Weld of Massachusetts and Christine Todd Whitman of New Jersey.
It’s not good enough that over 100 corporate leaders sided with the Democrats. They formed a plan on how to respond to voting laws in any state.
They will not stop until every single big business is with them. MLB moved the All-Star Game from Atlanta to Denver after President Joe Biden supported the demands for the move.

I guess I know where I’m buying a washing machine from this weekend!
I have a number of construction projects going, preparing to sell my current residence, to downsize. $10 of thousands now going to Home Depot, at least as long as they stay the course..
Businesses wadding into politics are foolish, It will cost them dearly over the long haul.
Going tomorrow.. paint and supplies.. and anything else I can think of.
They usually have a fairly decent garden center–it is springtime after all!
“Black religious leaders are now urging people to boycott the company over that silence.”
Meanwhile, many whites have already been boycotting this company over its excessive wokeness… so the world’s smallest violin for Home Depot.
“A strange game. The only way to win is not to play.” — WAR GAMES
That would be Tutsi sweet. But Hutu we inaugurate?
And I was ready to go spend money at Home Depot, not now.
HD we Las a big supporter of Trump
Damn, so is HD on the right side or not?
. You can’t “not play” without repercussions from some group or other. Because “woke people” aren’t silent.
Should HD weigh in on just this issue or every other political policy? Which should they refrain from? Why?
Maybe it’s best if HD simply sells building supplies and stay out of it? Pretty sure the gentleman doesn’t want to be publicly lectured by HD on the subject of ‘rendering unto Caesar’.
Black or white, who buys more building supplies?
Blacks in their zeal to dominate are futilely squandering white good will.
Don’t consider it to be “Blacks in their zeal” it is “Democrats in their zeal”.
Yup. It’s their “White Savior” self-image that drives these campaigns.
As long as the Left demonstrates that it can and will send mobs to Burn, Loot, and Murder any business that doesn’t comply, with active or passive support from the authorities, and the Right doesn’t demonstrate a similar mobilization, either to similarly punish the business OR to use lethal force to defend the business by removing the Leftist mob AND any authorities that protect it, the only rational business decision is to cave to the Left.
After all, we still need the goods and services they provide. The Left doesn’t know that.
Another “,Reverend ” heard from.
Just doing God’s work, stoking hate, distrust., alienation and separation
This is to rich
I’m boycotting Home Depot for donating to terror organizations (BLM specifically)
And now the Bolsheviks are boycotting too???
BRING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😮
Screw them all. It costs more, but shop small businesses, if you can find one anymore.
I’m trying to find a local appliance shop. I’m outfitting my new place in about six weeks or so.
I know of at least 3 small business hardware stores that have BIG customer service. They’re all great.
My schadenfreude meter went to Maximum when I saw an Apple store being burnt down. Sure, the employees may have lost their jobs, and for that I am sorry, but, all the wokeness and trendiness in the world didn’t help.
It looks more and more like the so called leaders of a particular 14% of the US population are itching to put it all on the line for a race war that a majority of that 14% don’t want and can’t possibly win.
A sad time in the Republic
The problem is those 14% are so damn silent about it.
It is THEIR silence that is the MOST violent. They are complicit.
Not all of them are silent about opposing self appointed “leaders”.
One thing I notice is that many pushing back against this nonsense can’t seem to express themselves without gutter language, and behavior that replicates much of what they claim to condemn.
It’s times like these that I think we may be heading in the direction of a white nationalist party.
Back when the 1964 “,Civil Rights Act” was signed into law, the old-,time “segz” said “we now haven’t control of [the N3gr0es]”. In my teen-age mind I found that harsh and horrible.
Now, I wonder. We’re they, in fact, right?
Were…
Lets hope not. Are we continuing to ‘sort ourselves’ yes. IMO, this is mostly by affinity for leisure activities. Sounds trite but, stay with me.
If someone wants convenient access to fish trout they don’t live in LA. If they want easy access to multi season multi animal hunting they live in a rural area. If they like to go ‘mudding’ every weekend they don’t live in the desert southwest.
The Rona has exposed the con on ‘culture’. Folks realized they could still experience Opera, Theater, first run movies, ext via internet. Not to mention educational services.
With more employers making the decision to make remote work a permanent option many people will lose the excuse of their job keeping them in a certain place.
Tribal sorting doesn’t have to be based on any immutable characteristics. Basic philosophical outlook is way more important IMO.
I moved to a rural County in a very Red State roughly 20 miles to a town of any type. Off a 2 lane highway to county rd, to a second county rd the last half of which is dirt. My ‘next door’ neighbor relatively speaking is African-American. Navy vet who moved here for the same reasons I did: to be away from large numbers of people and enjoy personal liberty.
My point is our common experiences, interests and beliefs are way more important indicators of social compatibility than skin color.
Will we continue sorting? Absolutely. Hopefully the folks who move to red States and Counties will keep in mind why they are moving and won’t attempt to import the policy errors they are leaving behind.
Food for thought. Thank you. I’m in NE TN. I have virtually NO common heritage with the native people, but I feel VERY MUCH at home here.
I think you are dead on with your idea of Americans sorting themselves ideologically moreso than racially, Unfortunately I don’t think the folks leaving the leftist cesspools are leaving their political policies behind when they relocate. I live in Western North Carolina and we started getting invaded about 20 years ago, take a look at the Asheville area now, it’s a failing liberal mess and more are coming all the time. A poorly remodeled 850sqft flip house will run you upwards of 350k this month.
Aaheville: Berkeley east.
Out of curiosity are you familiar with the research triangle and is it as bad as people say? If so how open could you be about your opinions there?
Doesn’t matter how you sort yourself within America, as long as moron states elect morons to go to DC and oppress everyone else. I’m sure you can name the top five, everybody knows them.
A Democrat Socialist in The American Republic. A progressive path and grade.
People of Black? Pro-Choice, selective, opportunistic, relativistic (“ethical”) religious leaders? Progressive sects. Trans-civil rights movements. Home Depot, take a knee, and pay the protection fee.
Good. Less assholes walking around Home Depot.
I remember a line from a humorous “listicle” I read in the Reader’s Digest circa 1961. It was entitled something like, “How to tell a Democrat from a Republican.” The line that stuck with me all these years: “Democrats repair their own cars and build on their own dormers. Republicans aren’t sure which end of a screwdriver to pick up.”
Wow, how things have changed. Maybe we did have a “Halftime in America” after all.
The very laws recorded in Democrat states. That said, third-world nations, to normalize civil rights, require in-person (i.e. one-to-one) voting and purple thumbs. Consider yourself fortunate that they don’t require colored thumbs in America.
Bless that special word, he wears it with congenital understanding.
Maybe HD actually read the GA bill before they deemed it worthy of criticism or not.
They aren’t restricting voting; they are restricting vote fraud. No wonder the Dems/leftists hate it so. They sure can’t win in the forum of ideas.
Remember food deserts? Well, there will be “business deserts” as a result of this leftist garbage.
Reading the bill before virtue-signaling about it is risky business. Letting its actual content STOP you from virtue-signaling? TO THE PYRE WITH YOU!!!
BFD, Bishop Racey McRacist.
Lumber is in scarce supply. Costs have shot up tremendously.
Go ahead folks, boycott HD. More for the rest of us.
Maybe prices will come down by a buck or two.
Sande Plywood ( 1/2 in. Category x 4 ft. x 8 ft.; Actual: 0.472 in. x 48 in. x 96 in.)
$41.35
I’m not sure how lumber is in short supply, I’ve seen more fully loaded log trucks in the past several months than I have in the past several years. Plywood I can understand since that’s the new plate glass. After the 2008 recession the Chinese bought up every struggling American sawmill they could and shuttered most of them so they could redirect our natural resources.
Speaking out sure helped coke didn’t it?
Coke, Procter & Gamble Announce Plans To Hike Prices As Deficit Spending Explodes Higher
They’re all pissy because Home Depot won’t come out in support of voter fraud.
No.
have a personal “demand” for all these “reverends”/sjws: STFU and instead be about the business of spreading the gospel and supporting the efforts and rights of christians to witness and be of service to our countrymen
They are priests of wokism not Christ you know that.
Need new air conditioners, Made up my mind.
Home Depot has been woke for a while.
My son was passed up on several promotions because they were given to less qualified people of cor or women. All with much less experience and qualifications.
People in HD cooperate have told me it’s very difficult for a white male to get a job with HD now.
APPROVED RACISM
“It’s difficult for white males to get a job now.” Home Depot and many corporations have decided to avoid hiring whites – especially WHITE MEN. It is racist and sexist. All the things that they complained about – they are now doing. In the last 50 years – society has opened up to women and blacks. Women that want to work can find a place in any trade or profession. Black Americans have gained economically more in the last 30 years than in the prior 100 years. White men stepped aside – some were pushed – for a greater good.
Now the woke say – that’s not good enough. They say WHITE MEN have to be demonized – especially if they are straight. (they define straight men as “toxic masculine”).
_____
To illustrate — Banks and brokerage firms do not want to hire white men anymore. Recently, I heard of a department head of a major NYC Bank that wanted to hire a white man after interviewing a dozen others (of all races) because the white man was the most qualified – he was told to go back and find another candidate.
——
I believe most people of all races and genders do not want to destroy the social fabric of America. But they are being led to this by a radical group of perhaps 3% to 5% of the population. This radical group happens to have infiltrated powerful positions in media, academia, corporation. Their goal is to undermine the primary socio-economic group in the US. They will not stop until they do so. They are at war with America. Some knowingly – others as useful idiots.
They pretend that they are for good (anti-racism) and use that as cover to achieve evil things like actual racism.
The problem is that there will be an inevitable backlash. White Men are not going to just sit by and have jobs and social position stolen from them. The backlash will tear this country apart.
Are there no Dem leaders who can push back against the radicals ? Who is that party has a backbone ? Who has principles ? It seems the entire party has been co-opted by the radicals. Witness the entire Dem party’s House members voting against a resolution to condemn Maxine Waters.
In these times, I’d urge any young white or non-brown Hispanic, to think about learning a trade, or manufacturing something special. Then, open a business and hire whoever you want. Avoid having locations in other states; that should keep the feds at bay. Do NO business with ANY government entity. NONE. If you fall into that trap, you will be faced with a stack of paperwork that includes a report on how many of your employees have indoor plumbing, black skin, or whose family history includes speakers of Spanish or Purtuguese.
A former associate of mine was a one-man shop. He produced a line of highly specialized software. for progammers. Uncle Sam wanted to buy several hundred each of his products, and he said “yes”. Next think to hit his mailbox was forms about his employees (none) and their pedigrees. He tried to explain he was a one-man shop. It all went round and round.
He finally told them: you want my product, send a purchase order. If you don’t, then don’t. I will not comply with your paperwork because it is not possible to do so. In the end, he got the order. Need won out over woke I guess.
Oh, and, this associate could not have been more white. Sandy-blond, blue eyes, English surname,.
The answer to avoiding corporate BS in general as an employee is to NOT be an employee…own your own business/be self-employed. The main problem is that the tax laws and other regs are a huge PITA which I’m sure discourages a lot of would-be entrepreneurs from hanging out their shingle.
Several long-term projects are at the stage of needing materials. Sounds like a multitude of runs to Home Depot are coming up.
A couple of notes on Home Depot’s foray into woke politics:
1. They initially issued a statement condemning the Georgia voter integrity law: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2021/03/15/georgia-voting-business/
2. Like Coca-Cola industries, they received immense backlash and thus, again like Coke, declined to sign this particular letter . . . both citing their earlier condemnation of the Georgia law.
3. Unlike Coke, I have not seen that Home Depot is forcing its employees to learn to “be less white.”
4. Home Depot appears to be trying to straddle the fence here: https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/home-depot-boycott-campaign-reaction-voting-law
Make of all this what you will.
I may have to walk back my earlier comment. I swore I saw something in the past two months about Home Depot doing the “less white” dance… but now I can’t find any record of it. The only wokism I can find lodged against HD is here, and even that was just something they “sponsored,” not something they were in charge of. Upon further review, it looks like a one-off screwup.
Speech is apparently violence. Now silence is too. When will anyone have the guts to point out the entire sophistry of the Left’s positions on seemingly everything? What credibility is their philosophy based upon? What are its foundations that we’re having such difficulty shaking them? It’s weird….
Over the past several months, I have also been wondering why the yammerings of these batshit-crazy radicals has been picked up and treated in America like revealed truth. My conclusion is that the mainstream media is conspiring to amplify everything they say and censor everything reasonable people say. Which is why I predicted any shooting war Is very likely to begin with a preponderance of newsreader meat puppets on the business end of the crosshairs.
