Pelosi, Trump Clash Over Democrat Push For Mail-in Voting

One of the items on Nancy Pelosi’s wishlist for the emergency Wuhan coronavirus relief package was related to various voting changes, including large-scale mail-in voting. Because that’s the most pressing need of the nation right now, apparently, holding the relief hostage to her attempted extortion was really necessary. Or something.
Democrats and the media (yes, I repeat myself) are still pushing the whole restructuring voting to make it “more democratic”—not, I am quite sure, an accidental phrasing.
Unsurprisingly, the push is being met mostly with disgust by everyone else, including President Trump.

Trump advisers say they are open to certain changes, such as automatically sending absentee ballot applications to voters over age 65. But they’re opposed to other moves Democrats are pushing, such as sending every voter a ballot regardless of whether they ask for one, which Republicans argue would open the door to fraud.

Sure, by all means let’s have mail in ballots.
Just as soon as every name on every voter registration list is compared and verified against IRS database, Social security database, prison records, military discharge records, selective service records, mortgage records, property tax records and of course against other state voter registration database.
Once that is certified by each state government and federal agency listed above as well as audited for accuracy then sure go for it. Since that will be the day after never…..not this time Madame Speaker, it wouldn’t be prudent.
I have done my part. I served in the military for 4 years. I have paid taxes on every dollar I have made. The last contact with law enforcement I had was at 4:30 in the morning back in 1974 when I was on my way to work in Reno. I was doing 40mph in a 35 zone. I paid the fine. I am in balance with the law, the government and my conscience.
I do not think a person who has crossed the border and is in this country illegally and has contributed nothing to this country should be able to cancel my vote so Pelosi can remain in power.
Nothing Screams voter fraud like a liberal. Now they don’t even have time for a cover story just full-on totalitarianism.

I actually think being prepared for mail-in ballots is a necessity, but that because because the chance of fraud is so high, this requires fingerprint registration associated with voter ID. I’ve wanted to throw out the voting rolls and re-register everyone for a decade, anyway. Can anyone else think of a way to keep vote-by-mail secure?
I can’t think of a system of mail in voting that would be truly secure. Nor can I think of one which would be acceptable to those who oppose voter ID at a physical polling place.
The goal of an election is for those eligible to vote to be able to do so if they so choose, then to have their vote accurately tabulated, recorded and the ballots secured for any recount while simultaneously preventing those ineligible to vote from doing the same.
There is no way to ensure the validity of a ballot from an individual unless that ballot moves immediately into a tabulation machine or ballot box directly from the voter’s hand. It just isn’t feasible. Not by U.S. postal, Fed Ex, UPS and certainly not by a purely online system.
Mail in votes with registered fingerprints and the ballot invalid without the fingerprints on the actual ballot is pretty dang secure.
The challenge is combining security against fraud with anonymity.
But if I have to pick one, I’d prefer security against fraud.
The next step down is to have the fingerprints on a separate sheet of paper: validate the fingerprints before submitting the ballot. Debating the two.

Fingerprint isn’t the answer. The premise of your question was in relation to our election this November and utilizing mail in ballots vs physical polling stations due to covid-19.
I am not aware of any state where the election officials posses a database of fingerprints for each registered voter. Aside from the obvious flaws of fingerprints, your plan would require the development and testing of fingerprint tech to support the plan, then require every registered voter to go to a physical location to supply a fingerprint sample.
The tech would have to recognize a set as valid but only valid once and it would have to do so across every precinct nationwide. You would have to convince voters to supply a fingerprint sample as well. That doesn’t seem feasible.
Normal absentee procedures for people out of town and one day of voting across the entire nation. Anything else is ripe for fraud.
If you need proof of that, come see how things are done here in Washington state. We’ve got vote-by-mail, registration at the DMV (“motor voter”), and a history of enough ballots mysteriously “found” after the initial count to swing the result in the Democrats’ favor.

Push back the other way, mandatory voter ID in all federal elections, and make ballot harvesting a felony.

IF someone is found to be guilty at a trial of voter fraud through use of the mail, the penalty is death by hanging with no appeals. Instant execution of the sentence withing 15 minutes of the decision.
We can have gallows outside the court houses as a reminder.
4fun, a person after my own heart. In addition to that, put a death penalty on lobbying. Those that lobby (bribe) a government official and the government official for accepting it. It might stop Congressmen entering the office a paupers and leaving as millionaires or billionaires. While they’re at it add the death penalty for insider stock trading as well.
Lobbying is not bribery, and it is explicitly protected by the first amendment. It is a fundamental part of our system of government, a basic freedom without which we would be a tyranny.

We moved out of CA 2 years ago….I submitted the formal request to stop the county from sending our mail-in ballots. Our CA republican ballots are still sent to our CA house. So yes there is 100% chance of fraud. Our son (who lives in our CA house) shreds our ballots.

Sherikia Hawkins, a 38-year-old registered Democrat, stands accused of altering 193 absentee ballots. She was arraigned Monday in Southfield on charges including falsifying returns or records, forgery of a public record, misconduct in office, and multiple counts of using a computer to commit a crime. She was released on $15,000 bond pending a March 10 hearing.
The alleged misconduct was discovered after the Oakland County Clerk’s Office noticed that 193 voter files had been changed to reflect that the voters failed to include a valid signature or return date, when all of the implicated voters had in fact included both items. The county clerk’s office later discovered the original voter files in the trash at the election-division office. The Michigan State Police then launched an investigation that resulted in Hawkins’s arrest.
