Is era of Ocasio-Cortez over? Candidate she backed gets 6% in Dem #HI01 primary

She’s still a media darling, so expect her to keep getting attention even though there is no Ocasio-Cortez wave.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a media darling. They love, love, love her. Her defeat of Joe Crowley in the NY-14 primary was to herald a new era in Democrat politics – a new, young Socialist face for the coming years.

Ignored was that Ocasio-Cortez won her primary with only about 16,000 votes in a primary that had an abysmally low turnout (just under 12%). Crowley pretty much ignored her candidacy, allowing her to win with barely a 4,000 vote margin.

Yet she was hosted on many of the anti-Trump cable and network shows. Her appearances were embarrassing. She had a degree in economics and international relations from Boston University. But her know-nothing talking-point responses on a wide range of issues is an indictment not just of Democratic Socialists, but also of our educational system.

Ocasio-Cortez, nonetheless, drove the Democrat agenda, with numerous likely presidential candidates jumping on her Abolish ICE bandwagon. Ocasio-Cortez hit the campaign trail pushing the Democratic Socialist message for candidates all over the country.

Anti-Israel activists were particularly heartened by Ocasio-Cortez’s willingness to criticize Israel, a sign that the anti-Israel Democratic Socialist agenda might be making a breakthrough. Ocasio-Cortez backing of Israel-hater Ihlan Omar in MN-05 must have heartened the anti-Israel community.

But the results have been abysmal. There is no Ocasio-Cortez bump, and candidates she backed have lost, including recently in KS-03.

She flew out to Hawaii to back Kanierla Ing in the HI-01 Democrat primary. He made her a centerpiece of his campaign.

Her introduction of the candidate went astray when she forgot to introduce the candidate at an election eve rally:

HI-01 was another abysmal loss, perhaps her worst yet. The results were laughable. Ing got only about 6% of the Democrat vote.

Progressive Democrats are in panic. The overwhelming winner of the primary was a so-called “Blue Dog” former congressman.

Is the era of Ocasio-Cortez already over?

No, because she still is a media darling. A media that is desperate for some life to be pumped into the Democrat body politic.

It is good to keep in mind that the media before the campaign season starts is desperate to pump life into the democrats and as such they are the only “campaign” right now. Remember that when reading the polls which are also skewed. This is setting up to be much like Hillary in 2016. The media can created her as a frontrunner that was gong to win handily and then when the real campaign started and especially at the end when people start taking their vote seriously there is the massive undecided move to the Republicans and away from the hype of the Democrats.

This is good stuff. However, the dems are definitely unhappy about Trump and I believe motivated to vote, while conservative voters are content right now. I hope conservatives vote. I hope they vote.

Midterms are not normally a national referendum. They turn more on local issues and local candidates. Trump supporters will not enthusiastically turn out to support and vote for a NeverTrumper Republican

They are not normally a national referendum, but the media/Democrat machine is making it out to be such and that in itself is motivating conservatives. In Wisconsin alone the senate fight just for the Republican primary is going down to who will help Trump the best and that is getting people out for just that factor alone. Come November the same theme except there will be the stark contrast between Republican and Democrat to make the focus much sharper.

Awww, give the girl a little Stevie Cohen Purple Heart . . .

I know the answer to the demand that she authorize BU to release her transcript, SATs. It’s the answer that all Ds give. Still the effort should be made.

But if the grades were really good, or in the case of a D, just plain halfway decent, not only would we have the academic records, we’d be hearing of how unbelievably brilliant the D candidate was. In the case of the One we only heard of the alleged brilliance* without proof. Actually we now have the proof of his 8 years of negative brilliance.

*Historian Michael Beschloss was interviewed Monday on Don Imus’ radio show and he made the claim that President-elect Obama’s IQ is off the charts and that he is the smartest president we have ever had. Here is the meat of the conversation,

I’m wondering how well she is doing in her district. From the looks of it, she’s been campaigning everywhere but there. It was a low turn-out primary and afterwards I read about many, who hadn’t voted, talking about writing in the previous guy in the general. Isn’t he still on the ballet in one of those weird NY only parties?

Would be hilarious if the guy she beat in the primary came back to whomp her in the general.

Apparently the low information voters in the district don’t know that under New York election laws the incumbent, Crowley, will still be on the ballot in the general election. I’m betting that he will easily defeat the media darling loco ACo.

Comanche Voter | August 12, 2018 at 9:58 am

She is a pretty little thing; easy on the eyes as it were. But “airhead” doesn’t begin to describe her. I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets whomped in the general election. There will be other races on the ballot in New York and Crowley’s supporters will come out.

Rats…thumbed the down by mistake going for reply. With her political stance and all… “High Maintenace” doesn’t even start to describe her.

She gives bartenders a bad reputation, most are much smarter than she appears to be. Nonetheless, she should go back to tending bar where her physical attributes will overcome her mental deficiency (at least if she has a cheat sheet on how to make mixed drinks)

She’s ok in the looks department. But imagine living with her?

    Ugh.

“Filming at Iolani Palace. We’re talking about how two millennials from working class families ended up running for Congress,”

Ocasio-Cortez’ father was an architect who owned his own business. That’s hardly “working class.”

Everything about this Che-loving chica is phony. She should go back to bartending (and stop cheating the waitresses, who really are “working class,” out of their fair share of the tips).

The Democratic Party is a crime family, pretending it pushes policy. The people in charge have no intention of surrendering their power to upstarts. They would resist this change even if the voters supported it, which they don’t.

Ocasio-Cortez may represent the young and idealistic in the party, but everybody knows that they don’t vote.

So was the Communist Party in Russia but they got away with murder for decades. Who called the CP “criminal” in Russia? The Russian courts did…..several tens of millions too late.

“She is a pretty little thing; easy on the eyes as it were”

If you find her that impressive, you need to get out more, and among people under 40. Friendly advice.

Well, the HI trip was not a total loss…she did get leis-ed.

Laura Ingraham calls her the D “It” girl. Perfect..

And those 6% were probably mostly dead voters, made-up voters and illegal immigrants, each voting multiple times in the best socialistic tradition.

It’s hard to light the fires of socialist revolution in a Trumpian downpour. Their play to evoke full on socialist shift of the party was too soon but is a good tip off of all that is left of the Dem Party. We have young adults living with only memories of “good times” bought with fiat money and hardships endured living with mommy and daddy buffered from the real world.

Prime example of fake news. She has nothing that normally would make her news worthy. With the exception of her upset in a primary she’s been a story of stupidity, vapidity and lack of experience. Yet somehow we find her all over the news.

Like a train crash you can’t just look away from. She’s being touted and when she fails bigly she’ll take some with her that were not expecting it. And the press has done it to itself and it’s masters.

Clearly, the 93.9% of primary voters who didn’t support Ing were just catcalling Ocasio-Cortez.

The Odumbo scam was akin to the Maddoff scam: another scam like it won’t work for another hundred years.

Cortez is a bozo no one is buying.

She has only won the primary to date. Shouldn’t she be campaigning in her own district?

Milhouse in reply to Mercyneal. | August 12, 2018 at 8:26 pm

No need. She’s likely to get about 80% of the vote, and the only campaigning she needs to do is some leafleting in late October so people will recognize her name.

In any case, even if she did have a fight on her hands, now’s not the time to campaign in NYC. Until the end of August nobody’s paying any attention, and then until September 13 all the focus will be on the state primary.

In Hawaii, an election should be decided not on how many votes you get, but on how much Aloha you generate, brah.

I saw a very humorous meme where she says she’ll consider debating Ben Shapiro if he’ll double the amount of the donation from $10,000 to $15,000……..

Here’s an idea for a comedy: Obdumba and Cortez debate each other (sans teleprompter and Candy Crowley).

THAT would be hilarious.

ACO has a terrible posture, she needs to hold her head up, her chin in and pull her shoulders back; just as the Marines teach in boot camp.

“Two weeks before my race, I was polling 35 points down,” Ms Ocasio-Cortez said Thursday, speaking at a campaign event for Mr Ing — the largest political event for a Hawaii candidate in years. “And we changed that in two weeks because we were talking to people who hadn’t been excited about the political process before.”

So basically, her own numbers show that she is screwed if there is any sort of real turnout and the voters recognize the incumbent on the ballot. Her only hope is to get a lot of straight-D pulls. My prediction is that by 11/15 we never hear from her again unless we read her neighborhood community paper.

the big question is how many votes would her preferred candidate have gotten IF she did NOT endorse.

Still on the whole, I want her to go to as many places as possible. Let the public see what she is and what she is peddling.

Many voters see her for what she is, a greedy sociopath who is as phony as they come. Those types are drawn to politics. The horse teeth don’t help.

Not over.
