I attended the Netroots Nation progressive convention this morning in Providence, Rhode Island. The session was titled “American Indian Caucus.”
When I asked the panel about Elizabeth Warren’s false claims to be Cherokee, they became defensive and accusatory, refused to condemn Warren or seek an apology even though genealogical information shows Warren is not Cherokee, and falsely accused me of being racist.
The American Indian Caucus panelists included Paula Dove Jennings, Daily Kos staff writer Timothy Lange, and Neeta Lind of Navajo Nation.
Dove Jennings spoke for an hour about her American Indian heritage, and the importance of the American Indian community staying visible. “I wondered to myself, what is a ‘real Indian,'” said Dove Jennings. “….It’s time we speak the truth.”
Dove Jennings admits in the video to falsely claiming to be Narragansett: “I know I’m not. I’m Niantic.” Dove Jennings on Warren:
First of all I don’t know how anybody can say she “falsely” identified herself. I think, from what I have read, that she has identified she has native blood in her. It’s probably or could be, Cherokee or some other nation….Elizabeth Warren–god bless her–I give her all the credit in the world, because there’s so many people don’t want to acknowledge who or what they are….I don’t think she’s falsely claiming it. I feel she has grown up being proud of this history of being, or having native blood in her then I say, “thank you Elizabeth Warren.”
Mid-question, Timothy Lange cut me off to ask me to identify myself. After I had finished asking my question, as the crowd began to shout me down, one of the people in the audience said, “she must be with Breitbart.”
A Daily Kos photographer rushed from the back of the room and began taking pictures of my face from three feet away. The woman from Daily Kos refused to tell me who she was affiliated with when I asked her. She said “i’m here for myself.” See the Daily Kos photographer’s post about me here:
This woman just trolled the Native American Caucus, shooting video while trying to provoke material she could use to embarrass Elizabeth Warren, presumably on behalf of Scott Brown. (I doubt she’s connected to his campaign. I presume she admires Breitbart.)
Take a good look at this picture, especially if you’re at NN in Providence:
She quickly ran out of the room once she got made unwelcome. Well, and right after I took this picture. Dopper ran after her, trying to get more info. I got the best picture of her, thus this diary.
And, please, people – don’t talk to her. Don’t give her anything she could manipulate or use in any way!!!

Nutroots.
As demonstrated. All is delusion. Truth is plastic, and “it depends”…
Truth is plastic, and “it depends”…
The preferred term is “nuance”. 😉
So, the indians are defending a woman who used and abused their ethnicity for her own gain, and they’re fine with it. Okey-dokey.
Seeing as how the indians have clearly chosen up sides with the dumbocrats, I guess the decades of talk about wanting to remain independent, fending for themselves, and all the talk about their dignity and so forth was just so much BS.. If it were true, they wouldn’t be defending Warren or in bed with the dumbocrats. They traded the indian reservation for a much harsher reservation, the dumbocrat reservation.
I guess it’s clear now why they lost the war.
The indian brand just isn’t what it used to be or is cooked up to be in the lying textbooks.
Whoa, Professer, you are brave!
Braver still, because it was Anne…
Now that’s what I get for not reading the byline! Sorry, Anne! And you are VERY brave!
Your first hint might have been the photo. The Perfesser doesn’t even look that good with full make-up.
Anne, buy a gun. Learn how to use it. Practice, practice, practice.
And I love the characterization of her fleeing the room. Boy that is the look of sheer terror on her face! (You take a nice photo, Anne!)
Welcome back home Prof to RI where everything is upside down!
There’s no rational explanation for irrational liberal viewpoints.
Perhaps they have been living a “lie” for far too long for now it has become the truth…
Oops, that would be “Professor!”
Is this being moved by concern about the potential repercussions for affirmative action preferences?
Anne: Good work!
Fascinating that those not offended by Warren’s claims are most offended by those expressing disdain for Warren’s false claims. It’s almost as though Massachusetts now has become a real life version of what Orwell’s Animal Farm portrayed. Or, maybe that woman who stood up to speak is really the “Queen of Hearts!”
The longer this Warren episode continues, the more unreal it becomes.
Please, next time don’t post a link to DailyKos. Now I have to get out the bleach and sterilize my keyboard and eyeballs. They really do live in a world of paranoia, don’t they? If you really wanted to get them upset, ignore them.
Elizabeth Warren, fake but
accurateIndian.“And, please, people – don’t talk to her. Don’t give her anything she could manipulate or use in any way!!!”
Behavior like…
a. cockroaches, or
b. convinced, idealistic people confident in their ideas?
Telling, no?
Be careful, Anne.
I was at the Right Online conference last summer, across the street from Nut Roots. Those people are crazy and they chased one conservative guy down the street and surrounded him.
Just be careful.
I love how liberal white folk think wearing some turquoise makes them Native American.
It compliments their blue eyes so nicely, too…
You can watch the loons live here.

1. The Left may be mulling whether to put on a Native Americans for Elizabeth media event. The session you attended could be a dry run/trial balloon.
The Warren campaign may be mulling whether she should appear at such. I’m not going to give them advice.
2. When I asked the panel about Elizabeth Warren’s false claims to be Cherokee, they became defensive and accusatory, refused to condemn Warren or seek an apology even though genealogical information shows Warren is not Cherokee, and falsely accused me of being racist.
Two remarks, hopefully constructive, about this sentence:
a. The answers might have been more candid if you hadn’t said that Warren “falsely claims” she is Cherokee. If you left out “falsely” or, better, said that Warren states she is Cherokee, you might have gotten even better material (without telling a falsehood).
b. …falsely accused me of being racist.
This choice of words sounds like it might be a bit defensive. I trust you understand that the Left could care less whether their accusations of racism are true or not.
3. Anne, your Kos image looks professional and attractive but a bit tired. Kudos for your valued work, but do pace yourself.
Too “truthy”, gs…??? I got it.
Behind enemy lines! Way to go, William!
Way to go Anne. Sorry. Now I’ve been over to Daily Kos. Those people are idiots!!
Careful Douglas… the Krazy KOS Kids are notoriously thin-skinned. Their jimmies having been recently rustled, they are liable to get into a turbo snit and ban you in abstentia. Trust me, that ain’t a bad thing, hoss… 😉
Isn’t that another way of saying “Don’t say what you really think in front of this lady because she’ll tell”?
I think Joe Biden our illustrious VP should get involved. Biden should proclaim Warren an honorary Cleveland Indian and a Washington Redskin.
Dove Jennings on Warren:
First of all I don’t know how anybody can say she “falsely” identified herself. I think, from what I have read, that she has identified she has native blood in her. It’s probably or could be, Cherokee or some other nation….Elizabeth Warren–god bless her–I give her all the credit in the world, because there’s so many people don’t want to acknowledge who or what they are….I don’t think she’s falsely claiming it. I feel she has grown up being proud of this history of being, or having native blood in her then I say, “thank you Elizabeth Warren.”
Then based on his analysis, we’re all native Americans! Feel free to check off the box when you encounter one!
Why should criteria be any less than what Obamacare is mandating.
There are 38 check points leading to being declared a “meaningful user” and eligible for Obamacare incentive payments.
The town I live in is named after an Indian tribe and our high school sports teams are the “Indians”. Does that make me native American?
Boy, they’re a catty bunch. Meow!
Anne, you are a liar.
I was in the meeting, and have uploaded a video clip of your entire interaction with the panel.
It can be found here:
http://www.fromoutofmymind.com/Question/Question.mov
As anyone can see for themselves, you were not called a racist. You were not shouted down. No “Daily Kos photographer” rushed from the back of the room to take your picture from three feet away (one of my DKos friends took your photo later from where she sat in the row across from yours). And, as the clip makes clear, Dove Jennings talked about claiming to be a Narragansett while actually being a Niantic to make the point that the state of Rhode Island has categorized her as a Narragansett, incorrectly, so she’s stuck with that. You completely misconstrued what she said for your own purposes.
(BTW, we have video of the entire panel presentation from start to finish, so don’t even think about claiming this clip was taken out of context.)
You were treated respectively at all times, even by Tim Lange who was not happy with the implications of your questions. You came into the meeting and claimed that Warren had lied, and that a “Cherokee genealogist” had proven her claim false, without providing any information about how to substantiate such a claim.
Why do you find it necessary to lie about your interaction with the DKos panel to make your point? Do you actually have a point, or are you simply trying to create trouble?
My video speaks for itself as to what the speaker says (it is the same exact content as yours). As to the crowd shouting back, both your video and mine were taken at the front. There was noise in the back and people stood up as I was talking. The photographer said she wasn’t affiliated with anyone but miraculously shortly after it’s on Kos with a full post. If you don’t know about the genealogical research on Elizabeth Warren then you obviously haven’t been paying attention.
“As to the crowd shouting back, both your video and mine were taken at the front.”
This is not what your diary says. It says you were “shouted down”, which is clearly not true–you asked your questions fully and were answered, perhaps not to your liking. Further, any “shouting down” would have been heard on the video, as the room was not very large.
That makes you a liar.
“The photographer said she wasn’t affiliated with anyone but miraculously shortly after it’s on Kos with a full post.”
The photographer is not affiliated with Daily Kos, and is simply a blogger there. I know her personally. It’s no mystery that a diary was put up after your performance–we’re bloggers, after all.
Your statement makes you appear stupid.
“If you don’t know about the genealogical research on Elizabeth Warren then you obviously haven’t been paying attention.”
You can’t be bothered to provide a name or a link or something else which allows us to evaluate your claim? That’s the last refuge of the coward–you don’t actually want your “facts” checked, do you?
Your statement makes you appear insipid.
If this is what passes for intelligent, effective counterpoints to Kossacks’ political positions, your side is truly without much hope.
Finally, Anne, if you appear in any other NN12 meeting in which I am present, I *will* make it a point to stand up and announce your presence before the meeting starts. You are welcome to attend NN12, and you are welcome to ask your questions and fully take part, but you will not be permitted to sling shit and try to “Brietbart” our people.
Here is the Boston Globe’s retraction of its claims about Elizabeth Warren:
“Correction: Because of a reporting error, a story in the May 1 Metro section and the accompanying headline incorrectly described the 1894 document that was purported to list Elizabeth Warren’s great-great-great grandmother as a Cherokee. The document, alluded to in a family newsletter found by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, was an application for a marriage license, not the license itself. Neither the society nor the Globe has seen the primary document, whose existence has not been proven.”

Elizabeth Warren lied about being Cherokee in order to get tenure at Harvard. She didn’t have any documentation: as an attorney she would certainly know that she needed it, and she gambled that Harvard would be so eager to hire a ‘woman of color’ that they would never ask for the necessary paperwork. She was right – Harvard never did ask. It was only when she entered politics that the real vetting began, and it turns out that she has been misrepresenting herself for personal gain.
The shame and embarrassment here is that the Democratic Party staff in Massachusetts did such a spectacularly bad job in terms of a background check. They failed to do their job, and now we are in serious trouble in terms of the Senate election in MA (yes, I’m a Democrat). I am not alone – to see what other liberals think about EW’s choices and what it says about her, check out the comments here:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-04/elizabeth-warren-s-cherokee-nation.html
“Elizabeth Warren lied about being Cherokee in order to get tenure at Harvard.”
How do you know she lied, and to what purpose if she did? Can you read her mind?
As far as I understand, in the past she made a claim about having Cherokee blood based on family stories. We all base what we believe about ourselves based on family stories, much of which might, upon further inspection, prove not to be factually correct.
That said, she says she never used her Cherokee claim to get her position at Harvard, and others back that up. This entire issue is a tempest in a teapot, compared to the baggage Scott Brown brings to the race.
“The shame and embarrassment here is that the Democratic Party staff in Massachusetts did such a spectacularly bad job”
This I agree with–it could have been handled better, then and now. That said, Warren is a representative of the people, and Brown a bought-and-paid-for shill for Wall Street. The choice is clear.
Even though I’m no longer a Democrat, there are several local Democrats who would done well against Brown. Why Warren, when the candidate pool for Democrats is large? National politics at play and the DNC wants Brown out, so Warren was hand picked and fueled with money from progressives.
I understand Democrats do not like Brown and will vote for whoever the Democrats is, but there are some great Dems here and the party is treating them like dirt.
The only one ‘slinging shit’ is you.
“The only one ‘slinging shit’ is you.”
If so–and I don’t agree, unless by “slinging shit”, you mean telling Anne in no uncertain terms that this diaries is full of lies–then I argue that’s it’s fully deserved. Upstream, she doesn’t bother to correct the lies, but simply changes the subject. She lied about being shouted down, she lied about being called a racist, she lied about the intent of what Dove Jennings said.
I know shit when I smell it, and Anne’s diary has it in spades.
With “…and Brown a bought-and-paid-for shill for Wall Street. “ gs is slinging non sequitors. (That stuff will stain your clothes.)
Do you have numbers showing who has collected the most Wall Street cash? Seems Conservatives out do liberal-progressive-socialists in having more small donors. 0bama collects plenty from Wall Street.
Whoops. My bad gs, I meant “geekmobile”. geekmobile is slinging non sequitors.

Whoops. My bad gs, I meant “geekmobile”. geekmobile is slinging non sequitors.
No worries.
Well, either English isn’t your first language, or you’re a moron, or you’re a liar.
I’ll take all three for a thousand, Alex.
Affiliated is an exact description of that relationship.
“Affiliated” implies a formal, often paid, relationship. The thousands of bloggers at Daily Kos are, for the most part, simply “members”. As is the person in question.
DKos staffers are “affiliated” with DKos. Members are not.
You, on the other hand, think that “affiliated” means “having something to do with”. Given that definition, I would wager that you not even “affiliated” with the thinking members of the human race.
Get that I just work here “peon argument” a lot while debating union knuckleheads about how aspects of their union contracts destroy opportunity for everyone else…
The entire episode was about shutting down debate with false charges of racism… first the Dkos staff writer asking where Ann was from then later saying he doesn’t respond to media who have a track record of trashing Indians … blah blah Racist!
Then Dove Jennings claiming that she was proud of Warren for coming forward with her brave feely of being Cherokee “because their are so many people not wanting to acknowledge who they are” because … blah blah Racist.
Then the Daily Kos “peon” who is bent on assuring denial of information and censorship of opinions not consistent with a particular viewpoint through mobilizing activists at future Netroot (blowhard with a bully pulpit) events.
I’m taking my soapbox and bullhorn and going home … blah blah Racist.
“Affiliated” implies a formal, often paid, relationship. […] DKos staffers are “affiliated” with DKos. Members are not.
In what language? Not English, that’s for sure.
It’s “Breitbart.”
That’s right, Anne! Free speech is only for liberal loons.
These events are not free, so you certainly paid admission, but don’t you DARE open your mouth.
The left is the antithesis of freedom, so get used to it.
Wow… internet threats. Although that may be cool over where you blog, it’s not going to make you any friends here.
Just wait for it…
Need I say more?
Remember your history, folks…
In virtually every Indian War west of the Mississippi, it took Indian trackers to help the Army catch and subdue their quarry. The ugly truth is that from time immemorial – well, early 1500s anyway – the Indian tribes, and sometimes even bands within the tribes, hated each other more than the white man. Time and again, the euphemistical ‘Indian scouts’ lead the Army into the hostiles’ redoubts, unknown to whites and tracked fleeing Indians the way no white person could, with the end result that the Army was able to out-Indian the Indians. One of the ironies of history, played out more than once, is that when the hostiles were subdued, they, along with the ‘friendly’ scouts were packed off together into captivity.
Now my point. The Progressocrats have their own ‘Indian scouts’, running interference with an Indian face, doing their work and carrying their water. Clearly, this is the case here. And as history shows us, once these Indian shills have outlived their usefulness, they’ll be loaded into the same boxcar as the rest of us and shipped off to a place where there are no buffalo, the water is foul and the TV only shows MSNBC and Lifetime.
Trooper John, I wonder if Elizabeth and the Kossacks are equally proud of the Cherokee actually owning black slaves.
Good work, Anne and very courageous walking into that den. Dishonesty and a total absence of integrity is a badge of honor for the left. Afterall, their standard is Ted Kennedy. Warren is the ideal candidate.
From in Daily KOS comment thread there’s a hilarious discussion on whether Ann was registered, official or sanctioned or would be disavowed by any claimed affiliation and of course its a matter should be taken seriously…
http://www.dailykos.com/comments/1098227/46352782#c14
Seems extremely hypocritical since that’s the debate along the lines of the fauxcahontas controversy.
The folks at KOS still cannot write for sh!t (I got mt IP banned from there years ago). Check out this poorly-written paragraph:
Without going full-blown “Grammar National-Socialist,” the first sentence just jacks up the whole paragraph. However, I think all the KOS-kids are connected via moonbeam generators, so their use of writing is probably superfluous.
Also, the photo hardly shows Miss Anne trembling in fear as the Kossite Kollective would have one believe.
Finally, I nominate Ms. Sorok for the Jane Goodall Award, for her outstanding work of rustling the jimmies of primates in their native habitat.
This is what is being “taught” to our public schoolchildren in lieu of archaic subjects like math, grammar, American history, etc.: your own personal “truth” is every bit as valid as anyone else’s. There is no objective right and wrong, everything is relative, and if it is “right” for YOU, you are entitled to believe it and everyone else must respect it.
That’s the sort of garbage we’re feeding our youth. That’s why they turn out for anti-American demonstrations. That’s why even actual Indians who are leftists won’t protest the fraud of Elizabeth Warren.
Indian, like progressivism, is a state of mind.
You people will never get it. The pinnacle of your existences was probably playing white, Little League baseball, on teams named Suquamish Suburbanites and such.
Elizabeth Warren has, at least, walked through fire to keep her spiritual and racially honoring claim.
As someone who is well over one-quarter Indian, was born in Oklahoma and has always taken my Indian heritage as something that is just part of who I am, I understand that American Indians have suffered incredibly. Like Ms. Warren, I could also call myself Indian, although not ‘legally’, but ‘passing’ as an Indian has never even been a consideration. In the culture from whence myself and allegedly Ms. Warren come, that’s seen as beneath one’s dignity as a person who’s really, functionally white (unlike Liz, I look like I’m Indian). It’s like pretending to be a war hero, except you’re stealing a hard-earned identity – one of spilled blood and genocide – to which you are clearly not entitled. That’s why she never tried to pass as Indian in Oklahoma or Texas; she’d have been derided, and rightly so.
And, I maintain that the hardest thing Ms. Warren ever passed through was that New Jersey bar exam with a kid attached to her teats.
You forgot the “/sarcasm” tag.
Because if you’re serious, your IQ is below 50.
Let the Nutroot trolls begin!
Seriously? If you’re looking for a sub-50 IQ, read up to the post to which I was replying.
Now, that is a lot of ignorance, not to mention racism, packed into one itty-bitty sentence. Substitute black or Hispanic for ‘Indian,’ and you could get a full-blown National Action Network / LULAC boycott and circus parade started! You could also get banned from KOS or any Lefty blog out there… you know the folks known their tolerance, if not their sense of humor.
You forgot to mention that, not only did Ms. Warren pass the bar exam with lil chief nipping on the nip, she did it in a foreign language because I don’t believe the racist white people give the exam in Cherokee.
An impressive woman to say the least.
You ARE good…
I find it hard to know when you are being serious or just doing parody!
liberal progressivism is a state of mind shown to be aligned psychologically with that of a child.
p.s. there was a friendly snake (cotton mouth water moccasin) passing by here earlier, it said they’d be willing to play with you over there on the shoreline riprap .. where you’ll likely find other liberal ideas washed up and rotting as well.
Oh, goody. Now all I have to do is say I have an Indian state of mind, and I’m entitled to shares in a casino. And a position on the Harvard faculty.
Thanks for the tip!
Better yet, start writing checks and tell the bank you have a multimillionaire state of mind so it’s OK.
Anne, thank you; you are a brave soul. Take care- these are not scrupulous people. I can only hope Netroots trots out native speakers by the score to defend Warren. Let’s suggest they also bring on her book publisher to talk about the false use of statistics to make political points; her New Jersey bar test proctor to testify on the uniqueness of nursing a child while taking the bar; some Occupy types who can discuss her founding intellectual energy…the list goes on endlessly, no doubt.
Wow, I had never read a comment thread on Daily Kos before but those people are absolutely nuts.
Anne really looks cute and not at all threatening.
As one who has been banned multiple times from KOS, they like their little echo-chamber preserved, as is, without any divergent opinion. They have my IP banned, but when I feel frisky, I get onto a proxy server (thanks, Sweden!), fire up a g-mail account, slip into some lead-lined hip-waders and go feed the ‘Kooky KOS Kommiez’!
Seriously, what you’re seeing here, with the trolls following Anne back to Castle Anthrax, would’ve already been shut down by the ‘KOS Kommisarz’.
What the hellz did we do before these Interwebs?
According to the Native Americans at Nutrats, being liberal qualifies you as a Native American. That blood-relation stuff is optional.
Yeah, there are SO many people with native american blood that are afraid to admit it, what with the horrible persecution (and casino money) they face every day. I’ve even heard Liz Warren can’t catch a cab because of her minority status.
These people are pathologically stupid.
I think the fat lady is Kenyan.

Would that Warren could do the same…apologize, not die.
Breitbart’s last tweet did indeed end with the words “I apologize”. The full text, however, makes it clear what sort of apology it was: “I called you a putz cause I thought you werebeing intentionally disingenuous. If not I apologize.” This was directed to a leftist penis (and I do not apologize) who had accused James O’Keefe of attempting to commit a felony.
Unbelievable if it weren’t completely predictable from these clowns.
“I don’t want to know the ‘truth’ assuming ‘truth’ exists, and if it does, I won’t let it influence my beliefs, you racist pig!“
It’s all about ideology. A leftist can claim they’re anything. No proof is needed.
If you’re not from the left, or challenge what a leftist says, no proof is sufficient.
We’ve just seen a perfect example.
Have you ever noticed how racist this claim that only American Indians can be Native Americans is? I am not an American Indian, I have no American Indian ancestry that I know of. I was born in this land and I am a Native American. You don’t like it you can hide out in the boonies and avoid reality.
No Indian calls himself/herself ‘Native American,’ unless they’re shillin’ for the Dash-D’s. In fact, this alone validates that Lizzie Warren is a fraud, just pretending for to come from poor and aggrieved minority stock. Her audience, a cabal of northeastern, Lefty academics, are willing to bless her pedigree and allow her little blonde/blue self into their rarefied world as an accepted and acceptable token minority. Otherwise, Ms. Warren would have to admit she’s just a po’ white woman from Oklahoma who has done pretty well for herself, but then we both know those types of pedigrees are beneath the dignity of those same culturally pure Hah’vad snobs.
Elizabeth, you’re Indian! There are hundreds of million ‘Native Americans’. You cannot be both PC and Indian.
The left only exposes their won hypocrisy and ideological bias when they refuse to acknowledge the truth as it is factual reality. But this is not knew, because like I have stated many time before, liberals cannot beat you on the truth, so they make the truth subjective by lying over and over again, and defending the lie to make the perception that what they say is real and good, when it is in fact wrong, a lie, and bad.
Amazing, but like I said, it’s a waste to time to use reason and logic against them, and thus a waste of time to argue with them, just defeat them. Stupidity and insanity are not to be given a debate priority and consideration.
