“I find this gesture from the Romney campaign to make them look very junior high”

“I find this gesture from the Romney campaign to make them look very junior high”

That’s Greta’s commentary on Mitt Romney’s campaign announcing it would send Newt a birthday cake to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of his censure by the House:

I don’t know about you but with all the serious issues confronting our nation and for our next President to address, whether it be President Obama or a Republican, I find this gesture … from the Romney campaign to make them look very junior high.  If Governor Romney even knows about this (and he may not), he should pull the plug on this prank.  It doesn’t make his campaign (and thus him) look presidential. He wants to appear Presidential right now.  It is one thing to point out and emphasize differences and experiences, it is another to ridicule.

Romney’s campaign manager tweeted about it today, linking to a page at Romney’s campaign site titled Happy 15th Anniversary, Mr. Speaker.

If Mitt wanted to deliver a cake Newt today, he had his opportunity this morning when they were both scheduled to appear at the same time at Tommy’s Country Ham House.  Newt challenged Romney to an impromtu debate, but Mitt arrived early and left before Newt arrived.

I think Greta had it right.

Pretty bush league, whether Romney approves or not. Campaign manager is #2 in a campaign.

    1. Agreed, but I prefer to call it Bush league. The Family’s campaign style is to present a front of statesmanship and rectitude while a Lee Atwater or Karl Rove does the dirty out of sight. Bush ally Romney is proceeding likewise.

As Romney’s political position deteriorates, so does the facade.

    2. The small-government conservative electorate has suppressed a lot of frustration with the Bushes. Perhaps their prolonged frustration influences their attitude toward Romney.

“Newt challenged Romney to an impromtu debate, but Mitt arrived early and left before Newt arrived.”

Either the Gingrich campaign or just a loyal supporter should follow Romney around wearing a chicken suit. We’re doomed if Mitt is the nominee.

So much for the narrative about Romney being Mr. Steady, Mature, and Conscientious. Sounds like he’s an immature twit.

It’s amazing how stupid people can be ….

What else can he do? Inspire people? That’s obviously a bust. This is all he’s got. He’s spent five years and a personal fortune running for President and he’s fading when he should be closing. So he’s reduced to JV stunts and old leftist cudgels.

That’s odd behavior for a guy a local talk show host (Jay Severin) said could be “Mount Rushmorian great” if elected president. Not that Jay is in the tank for Romney or anything. I’ve been trying to find a clip of that comment but haven’t had any luck…even if you like Romney you can’t seriously compare him to the guys on Mt. Rushmore.

    Jimmy Severino?

Given the man’s inflated ego, I am surprised that he didn’t suggest that his countenance should be chiseled into the rock next to Romney’s…

Inappropriate.

I question whether appearances are deceiving. A few things now have made me wonder about his social skills (e.g. the story that he exhorted a woman to give her baby up for adoption, the $10,000 bet, the dull personality.)

Sounds kind of unstable and zany to be playing pranks when you have so many issues facing our nation.

LOL…Newt should respond with a cake decorated like this

And once again Romney reminds me of a liberal. Childish tactics.

Romney, keeping it classy.

Romney’s crew may have figured this cute move would get attention in the news cycle for the day, while reporters are reaching for something to say, before they have results. They may be thinking it was not harmful to them, and a nice nudge to voters if they hear the censure cake reported on every hour.

Looks like it IS getting some coverage … though maybe it just serves as another reason to see Mitt as sophomoric, not ready for prime time.

If Romney didn’t know about it, he should fire the person that did it. If he was in on it, he should drop out of the race. We don’t need a 60 something child running the country.

I’d have to agree it’s childish. The only thing I disagree with Greta on is that it matters whether Romney knew about it or not. It doesn’t. He’s the leader, and to quote a Disney movie “First rule of leadership, everything is your fault.” It’s unfortunate this happened, and it hurts him with those of us that respected his professionalism.

Headline tomorrow…. Newt wins South Carolina but hates junior high school children which is obviously racist.

Who ironed Romney’s very carefully pressed, blindingly bleached, definitely not bought at Penny’s shirt, just perfect for doing laundry, the alpha (haha) male doing the laundry?
Remember when some dope called out to (Sen.) Hillary Clinton, e.g “iron my shirts?”
And his hair all perfect too. I must improve my appearance doing laundry.

LDS undergo several years of training which includes the art of laundry.

Anywhere in the world they uphold a norm of well presented clean cut LDS representatives.

Mens shirts have been standard wear for 100 years & I am certain the LDS have got the necessary cut , cloth & care down pat.

It is a great quality of theirs.

      You can mock.

Totally agree on this one. Trust me, being a LDS missionary, Romney can wash clothes, bleach them, iron & press them. He did it every morning before he went out and went door-to-door.

There are far more substantive reasons why Romney should not be the GOP standard bearer.

That picture is priceless. As good as the MOTUS shopping in Walmart, or Target, or wherever that photo event was held.

I’ve been open about my feelings for McRomney, but I always thought he had a certain class. So I am honestly shocked that he would do something like this. It’s tasteless and mean-spirited and not even funny.

Didn’t romney’s campaign send a half eaten pizza to someone’s campaign office in Chicago?

[…] Mitt knows about this stunt: Romney’s campaign manager tweeted about it today, linking to a page at Romney’s campaign site titled Happy 15th Anniversary, Mr. Speaker. […]

Yes, lack of looking presidential, no kidding already. For me, Romney is that self-absorbed frat boy who made remarks about the girls invited to the dance and in a snotty, oh so smartass condescending way–just a cute joke, ya know?

9thDistrictNeighbor | January 21, 2012 at 5:39 pm

Gee, the first thing I thought of as I read this was “Let them eat cake.” Should Mr. Romney’s campaign really be evoking phrases attributed to French royalty??

I think some of you are starting to realize why this campaign seems so dysfunctional sometimes…all of these guys have this sense of inevitabilty about the nomination. They really believe that Romney cannot lose. So they treat the other candidates with disdain.

JimMtnViewCaUSA | January 21, 2012 at 5:52 pm

Does anyone know if this is a presidential primary only?
I was wondering if Sen Lindsay “Grahamnesty” is on the ballot today.

Why doesn’t he just toilet paper Newt’s bus? Good thing Palin isn’t in this thing or we’d have a panty raid in the works.

DINORightMarie | January 21, 2012 at 5:54 pm

This story reminds me of the Ron Paul team tweeting on caucus night in Iowa to Huntsman about finding “the one voter” that voted for him – and that he should tell him thank you.

Petty. Very crass and sophomoric. Unpresidential.

And the Repub elites said Newt would “implode” or “self-destruct”?! Looks more and more like Romney (and Co.) is the thin-skinned one who is unelectable.

This is a chump move by someone who says he’s better than that. Then he ducks out on a potential meeting in a local restaurant. This guy is not a leader. He’s another smooth northeastern politician. I’ve had enough of them. As well as from Arkansas…

It looks like Reagan’s 11th Commandment is once and for all a dead letter.

Todd Starnes posted a picture of the actual cake https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=237741306300709&set=a.162386960502811.39685.128334087241432&type=1&ref=nf (sorry, I can’t embed)
Now for something that truly is juvenile, a “Vote Newt” parody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5z6Aqli41Q&feature=g-all-a&list=PL95AD78F8653AFBAF&context=G26e3ffeFAAAAAAAAMAA
I must be pretty juvenile, it made me ~snort

I am disappointed and campaign people should step down over this but I still support Mitt Romney. It’s not like he cheated on his wife 2x, was called up on ethics charges or claimed to balance the federal budget with gimmicks. It was a poorly thought out cake.

BannedbytheGuardian | January 21, 2012 at 7:02 pm

You guys are bi polar.

Mitt Romney is not Satan.

There are 2 aspects to consider. Domestic & International.

Whoever wins will need to be Rushmore worthy to keep the USA together /or solvent.

Internationally Mitt would be received warmly by allies & given every co operation for American survival.

Enemies will take 6 months to even begin to understand The Book of Mormon.

“very junior high”

way to advanced. However, Neener Neener Nyah Nyah (the traditional children’s taunt) fits perfectly.

TeaPartyPatriot4ever | January 21, 2012 at 8:52 pm

Extremely Jr High / Juvenile, is exactly right.. Romney and his crony superPAC, tried everything in their little cheating childish immature book, to smear and discredit Newt, which has absolutely failed, and conservative people all over America sees it and Romney, for what and who he really is.. A lying 2 faced coward weasel hypocrite of a politician, let alone a man..

For what it’s worth, Eric Ferhnstrom is “merely” a “Senior Adviser”, not the campaign manager…

Still, really really junior league of the campaign to pull this.

And “release the records”? You mean the records that are available on the web? Do these morons not know how to use Google?

Wow, Mittens must’ve gotten that idea from OZero. Same maturity level and all.

Mitt “Hat Rack” Romney proves how obsolete he truely is.
