As Legal Insurrection reported, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard shared the sad news on Friday that she would be resigning from the Trump administration to focus on helping care for her husband, Abraham, who has been diagnosed with what she called an “extremely rare form of bone cancer.”
“Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026,” Gabbard wrote in the letter she submitted to President Trump. “My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.”
“He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months,” she also noted. “At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle.”
After an announcement like that, one would expect people to set partisanship aside for five minutes and offer prayers and well-wishes as Gabbard and her husband begin what is undoubtedly going to be a very challenging health journey.
As far as Republicans go, there was nothing but support and encouragement offered to Gabbard.
But for some Democrats, it was a different story. For example, here’s how Rep. Shri Thanedar (MI-13) responded:
Rep. Norma Torres (CA-35) also skipped straight over an acknowledgment of Gabbard’s husband’s health, and tweeted this:
Rep. Dan Goldman (NY-10) also couldn’t resist a swipe:
I wish Tulsi Gabbard and her husband well as he battles bone cancer. As the search begins for the next DNI, Congress must insist on a leader not only defined by competence and institutional expertise but one who will not politicize our intelligence agencies or use intelligence for partisan purposes. At this time of intense global and domestic instability, this position demands an unwavering commitment to the Constitution and the American people — not loyalty to an unhinged, lawless president.
Oddly, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (NM-01) tried to turn Gabbard’s resignation into a War on Women thing:
Then there was Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who had a uniquely “Schiffty” way of addressing the DNI’s resignation.
It started off simple enough, with Schiff writing, “My thoughts go out to Tulsi Gabbard and her family, as her husband battles this serious health problem. I hope and pray that he makes a speedy and full recovery.”
But it didn’t end there. Schiff, whom Gabbard further exposed as a fraud in April 2026 with the release of declassified files from the 2019 impeachment, then began trashing Gabbard, saying the best part about her contribution to America’s national security was her resignation.
I mean, the lack of self-awareness here was off the charts:
While the circumstances around her departure are deserving of our sympathy, let’s be clear: Tulsi Gabbard’s only positive contribution to our nation’s national security is her resignation. She politicized intelligence. She dismantled critical agencies keeping Americans safe. She weaponized the IC to pursue baseless election fraud claims. And more.We must ensure that her tenure — marked by a devotion to the person of the president and not to the security of the country — represents a terrible exception at DNI and not the new normal.
The Lincoln Project, which for years has been dogged by allegations that it protected an alleged predatory groomer, jumped on the bandwagon by dredging up twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s “Russian asset” smear against Gabbard:
Meanwhile, the mainstream media insinuated, without evidence, that the real reason for Gabbard’s resignation was Operation Epic Fury:
Leftist influencer and Joe Biden groupie Joanne Carducci, aka JoJoFromJerz, was also her usual jovial and compassionate self:
As was bitter Biden clinger Neera Tanden:
This is just depravity on steroids. It’s like they just can’t help themselves.
