Biden’s DHS, DOJ Tracked Foreign Nationals Visiting Elon Musk

The Wall Street Journal reported that in 2022 and 2023, the DHS and DOJ under former President Joe Biden surveilled foreigners who visited Elon Musk after he bought Twitter.

It’s weird, though, the WSJ didn’t provide many details about the surveillance:

Several U.S. government agencies in 2022 and 2023 tracked foreign nationals coming and going to Elon Musk’s properties, according to people familiar with the matter. The investigation included the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department. It focused on people visiting the tech billionaire, from countries in Eastern Europe and elsewhere, who might have been trying to influence him. Until last week, Musk was one of President Trump’s closest advisers. The investigation didn’t progress to charges and its current status couldn’t be determined. Officials at several agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, had been briefed on it.The probe, predating the current Trump administration, highlights concerns about the number of foreign nationals in Musk’s orbit. Musk runs five companies, including SpaceX, with sensitive government contracts, and has had unprecedented access to top government officials.

Instead, the WSJ seemed to justify the administration’s moves because sources within America PAC claimed its staff “became concerned about who was joining him at meetings and events.”

An official with America PAC said the organization “had to institute extensive vetting to keep foreigners out of their efforts.”

The WSJ rattled on about how Musk acquired relationships with powerful people since becoming the world’s richest man, including Vladimir Putin:

The Wall Street Journal reported in October that Musk has been in regular contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin since late 2022. Musk’s contacts with foreign nationals led SpaceX lawyers to advise him against seeking a higher security clearance, for fear that he might have to explain the relationships or have his clearance revoked entirely, the Journal reported. As chief executive of SpaceX, Musk has top-secret security clearance, which gives him access to some national-security secrets. SpaceX, which Musk founded in 2002, has worked with national-security agencies since its early days.

Yeah, being in regular contact with Putin is not good.

But what else happened in 2022?

Musk bought Twitter in October 2022.

I want to link to Ed Morrissey’s Hot Air post about the news. I swear the two of us think too much alike because I came across it when trying to confirm when Musk made the big purchase.

Before Musk purchased Twitter, he became more outspoken against the government. He championed free speech, noting the shadow bans on the platform and the fact that those in charge banned people on the right but not on the left.

Musk dropped casual remarks about purchasing Twitter, even purchasing enough shares to become the largest shareholder before the purchase.

Musk reinstated many banned accounts. Then he helped drop the #TwitterFiles, exposing the Biden administration strangling social media accounts to suppress any damaging stories or thoughts towards the government, whether it be Hunter Biden or COVID.

The surveillance wasn’t about national security. It was all about protecting their butts. It was all about keeping Biden in office or making sure Trump didn’t emerge to the top again.
