NYPD Retakes Columbia University From Illegal Occupiers

NYPD Retakes Columbia University From Illegal Occupiers

The occupation of a key administrative building was more than even the weak Columbia administration was willing to tolerate.

It appears that the NYPD has started to retake control of Columbia University’s campus, particularly Hamilton Hall, which as been occupied by a coalition of Jihadist/Anarchist/Communist groups.

Arrest them. Jail them. Suspend them.

They’re already all suspended. Those who resist the police are being arrested.

      They’re already all suspended.

Says who? When were these dirtbags identified by Columbia? I know that the liars running Columbia made that threat … but they have made lots of threats. So far as I am aware, Columbia has not done anything to anyone.

And it’s already the end of the semester and students haven’t been able to be on campus for finals. Suspended, now?? LOL. It’s summer.

Milhouse is wrong… admin says “facing suspension” which we know means will not be suspended

Milhouse in reply to caseoftheblues. | May 1, 2024 at 7:04 am

Not true. According to the university spokesman’s statement cited here, they have already been suspended and are now facing expulsion. And that was before the police were called in.

Milhouse in reply to caseoftheblues. | May 1, 2024 at 7:10 am

In fact no need to go to another post. Right here in this post we have the president’s letter, explicitly stating that: “At this time all participants in the encampments are suspended, not authorized to be on university property, and are trespassing.” What part of that was unclear to you? What in that gave you the impression that they were merely “facing suspension”? Or did you just not bother to read it?

Azathoth in reply to caseoftheblues. | May 1, 2024 at 12:22 pm

What in that gave you the impression that they were merely “facing suspension”? Or did you just not bother to read it?

What in this told us it’s a lie?

They don’t know who’s in there. So no one could have been suspended yet. Being suspended NOW means nothing.

But, most importantly, they have made these types of statements and then failed to punish from amazingly similar protests in the past, including the recent past.

Milhouse in reply to caseoftheblues. | May 2, 2024 at 12:03 am

The university officially informed the police that anyone inside the building was either not a student at all, or a suspended student. It didn’t need to know their identities for that; anyone later found to have been there, or to have been in the encampment and not to have accepted the terms offered, has been on suspension since the date those two statements were made.

Hamilton Hall and the Tent Encampment area have been cleared

drsamherman in reply to Ghostrider. | May 1, 2024 at 12:20 pm

Good. That should have been cleared the first night they were encamped. I like what UTAustin did, Lord knows Jay Hartzell, the Spineless Bonehead finally stopped dithering and did something decisive for a change and actually called in the Texas State Patrol to boot the Hamassholes off campus. See the video of the one idiot whinging and crying like a baby when picked up like a roped calf at a rodeo. Rather funny, in a pathetic way. From what I understand, 45 of the 79 protesters arrested at UTAustin didn’t even have any association with the campus and were astroturfed protesters courtesy of Soros Rent-A-Riot (franchise opportunities in all major college cities still available!).

drsamherman in reply to drsamherman. | May 1, 2024 at 12:29 pm

Didn’t get this before I pressed “enter”:

It makes me wonder exactly how many of these Hamassholes at all of these other colleges and universities were also astroturfed. In NYC, it would be easy to “protest hop” from one campus to another, so to speak, until a lockdown. I am guessing that a large number of these Hamassholes are houseplants and bussed in for the encampment. Fox noted in a morning segment the homogeneity of responses from the rioters to its reporters questions, noting a few things: a) the mental vacancy of most college students—they don’t know who/what/why they’re protesting; b) they are being stage managed like the stooges they are—without the comedic timing; and c) a quite large swath of their generation is about to be rendered unemployable!

Milhouse in reply to caseoftheblues. | May 1, 2024 at 7:21 am

That’s your uninformed opinion. Considering that just above you denied that they had already been suspended, and doubted they ever would be, even though the post embeds the president’s letter to the police officially informing them of the suspensions, your judgment on this matter is clearly flawed. If “facing suspension” was followed by actual suspension, then it’s invalid to assume that “facing expulsion” will remain an empty threat.

Wisewerds in reply to caseoftheblues. | May 1, 2024 at 1:12 pm

Disagree with Milhouse. The Columbia administration may have been “talking the talk,” but it’s yet to be seen if they will in fact “walk the walk.”

Show me in September/October that there are at least 100 student protestors no longer on campus, then I will be both mildly suprised, and gratified.

All students in the building are expelled and charged with vandalism then denied re admittance next fall.
All graduate students have all financial aid cancelled and are expelled.
All non students are arrested and charged with criminal mischief then barred from the property forever.

The louts also must be charged and assessed the value of their damage, lost revenue for he school, added security costs, police costs, etc, and denied any opportunity to return to Columbia U Any non-residents involved must be deported as soon as their status is known. If they have any assets whatever here in the US, they should be seized and liquidated agaist the damages they have incurred.

Forget suspension. That’s a slap on the wrist.

Expel them. Make the point once and for all.

Expel them, and deport all foreign students.

I admit to being surprised. I did not expect any school admin to stand up to the Islamists/Left, let alone Columbia. If any “demonstrators” are harmed, they will of course be made into martyrs by the school and the Left nationwide. I still do not expect there to be any active prosecutions between Columbia and the Leftists running NYC. Nor do I expect any demonstrators to be held without bail like Conservatives.

“THEY HAVE FORCED OUT ALL PRESS TO PREVENT RECORDINGS OF THEIR BRUTALITY.” In CAPS no less. First good move by NYPD in a long time. Hopefully more than a few omelets are being made tonight. Since the NYC legal eagles are nothing to Bragg about… who knows.

Lots of school admins are standing up to them actually.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, they tend to be located in red cities and states. Away from the big blue cities and states who comprise the progressive center of gravity

Gosport in reply to healthguyfsu. | May 1, 2024 at 4:14 am

Or, they finally realized that they had allowed the situation to get completely out of control and were going to be held personally responsible for it.

That the fiasco had evolved to the point where the options were going to be taken out of their hands by the city/state and the result was going to be harmful to the public perception of their agenda.

Quite possibly whomever is pulling their strings told them it was time to quit while they were “ahead”.

Milhouse in reply to Gosport. | May 1, 2024 at 7:37 am

Also, as far as I recall this is the first instance of outright criminal conduct, not just violation of university policies.

          Naturally.

Milhouse in reply to Milhouse. | May 2, 2024 at 12:08 am

Occupation is only illegal if the owner objects. So long as the owner allows it to continue and refuses to take any action to remove the occupiers, they are de facto guests rather than trespassers. So until they committed an actual, objective crime, that did not depend on the university’s say-so, the police had no grounds to take any action. Once they did, the police needed no permission to act.

Milhouse in reply to geronl. | April 30, 2024 at 10:27 pm

No doubt. There’s nothing the police or the university can do about that. It’s all in Bragg’s hands.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Milhouse. | April 30, 2024 at 11:05 pm

That is why expulsion is in this case. Something that has to be done. As for the foreign students, not only expel them but report their names to the appropriate authorities for deportation.

healthguyfsu in reply to Milhouse. | May 1, 2024 at 12:22 am

Agree with TFG…the university can’t do anything about their legal matters but the university code is entirely in the university’s hands. Legal violations are not required to expel students.

Columbia President Shafik was born in Alexandria, Egypt, to Muslim parents who were both educators. May explain her reluctance to get heavy handed with the “mostly peaceful protestors”. LOL.

The first TV clip says NYPD was “given permission” to enter the campus. This is incorrect. NYPD does not need permission to enter the campus for any legitimate purpose, such as arresting criminals. What happened here was that the university requested NYPD to come and remove the trespassers, and then to remain to make sure they don’t come back. Without the request there was no reason for the police to enter, since no crimes had been committed except against the university itself, so as long as it didn’t want anything done about it the police had no business there. Had someone made a complaint about being assaulted, the police would have come in to arrest the assailant, and wouldn’t need anyone’s permission.

Ghostrider in reply to Milhouse. | April 30, 2024 at 10:45 pm

Is it safe to assume that the City of New York will send Columbia the bill for raid and rescue services that were deployed this evening?

    I hope so.

Milhouse in reply to Ghostrider. | May 1, 2024 at 7:40 am

No, I don’t think one can assume that at all. Evicting trespassers is a standard service that the police do for property owners, at no charge. It’s part of their job. But they can only do it at the owner’s request, since without that the people aren’t really trespassing.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to Milhouse. | April 30, 2024 at 10:48 pm

Without the request there was no reason for the police to enter, since no crimes had been committed except against the university itself, so as long as it didn’t want anything done about it the police had no business there.

That’s not true. There are thousands of New York and city codes and regulations that were violated and the NYPD doesn’t need permission form anyone to enter private property in those instances. You might own a 1 bedroom and want to rent it to 40 people and those 40 people might want to rent it from you but you and they are not allowed to that. There are occupancy regulations, and the city inspectors enforce them rigorously.

There is no question that what was happening on the COlumbia hamas lawn and in the Hamilton building violated tons of New York codes and laws. The NYPD could have moved in any time they wanted. Kathy Hochul had the responsibility, frankly, to send the National Guard in and yank these twerps out by their hair.

But we all know that the hamas-supporters are the democrat party, which means they are one with Hochul and Adams and Columbia and Alvin Bragg and all the America-hating scum of New York. The hamas lovers are the democrats. Period.

Code violations are not the police’s problem, or business. The police do not raid private property because someone has an illegal basement, or exceeds occupancy limits. And the National Guard certainly doesn’t get involved.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to Milhouse. | May 1, 2024 at 12:46 am

The cops certainly take part when a politico wants to leverage a code violation. If the fire inspector declares a hazard then they would have no problems calling the cops in to forcibly remove anyone there. People have been SWATted for much less. All it takes for that is an anonymous phone call, and there doesn’t even have to be any proof of that, only the police’s word.

My mention of the national guard and Hochul had nothing to do with code violations but only with her powers and responsibilities as governor. Obviously, Hochul is a treasonous worm and I would never expect her to do anything decent or right.

The fire department or buildings department may call on the police to assist them, but only they can do that. The police have no authority to simply raid a premises because they suspect a code violation.

You were suggesting that the police could have raided the Columbia encampment before any crime had been committed, and that Hochul could have sent the National Guard, again before any crime had been committed. And you suggested that they could have done so on the basis of code violations. That is incorrect. It would be up to the relevant city department to take any action, with or without police backup.

The Feds could have gotten involved a long time ago for hate crimes… remember when they sent 12 agents to investigate a garage pull …..

Milhouse in reply to caseoftheblues. | May 2, 2024 at 1:36 am

What hate crimes were committed? Remember hatred is not a crime, and can’t be. The term “hate crime” refers only to the reason a crime is committed, not to the crime itself. They can send as many agents as they like to investigate anything they like, but if no crime has been committed (as in the case of the garage pull) they can’t do anything about it. Even if someone had put an actual noose there on purpose they’d have to find a crime first.

Well, the dems are and always have been the party of slavery, racism and totalitarianism.

It was obviously a mostly peaceful kidnapping…

Milhouse in reply to caseoftheblues. | May 2, 2024 at 1:40 am

That was after they broke into the place. And that’s when the university asked the police to come in. We are talking about before the break-in, when no crime had been committed.

Once the break-in happened there was definitely criminal activity, and the police needed no permission to go in. Had one of the janitors called 911 the police would definitely have gone in to rescue them, and not asked anyone’s permission first.

“Had someone made a complaint about being assaulted, the police would have come in to arrest the assailant, and wouldn’t need anyone’s permission.”

Two janitors were supposedly taken hostage. And then released? I guess we’ll never know.

Yes, and then released. That’s how we got their stories in the first place. If they’d called 911 for rescue the police would have gone in, and would certainly not have asked the university’s permission first.

I’m glad to hear confirmation that the workers were released. That bit is news to me. Thanks.

I wonder if the anti-Hamas reporters purposefully concealed that part of the story – there are numerous ways we hear about people being taken hostage – namely via the hostage takers themselves.

The fact is that Columbia has been arab-terror central for decades. They enthusiastically hosted Edward Said for years … and after he thankfully headed straight to hell COlumbia turned around and invited Mahmoud Ahmedinijad to come in and recharge the university’s anti-American/anti-Western credentials.

Columbia is a sh*thole that should have been overrun and burned to the ground by the denizens of Harlem decades ago.

A nice little Gaza in the middle of Nevada with a containment wall would be ideal. Let the idiots misgovern themselves.

Omg listening to them scream “help , help” on these videos , what babies. Nothing is happening to you , just leave the area and you basically get no punishment no consequences; these are the worlds biggest cry babies. Oh no your stupid pointless “occupation” party has been broken up , I’m sure they’ll be back on the streets tomorrow harassing Jews.

Ok, but you’ve misspelled “Genocidal Anti-Semites” again.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | April 30, 2024 at 11:55 pm

I have to say, as I was watching the NYPD clumsily make their way into the building through that small window opening on the second floor – with cops waiting in line to crawl in – if all looked pretty amateurish to me. It was lucky that one of those cops didn’t fall to the ground trying to slither into the window, which wasn’t open enough to get in. Some cops went in head first, some feet first, some tried both ways. It was not very professional.

Usually, to breach a building in this sort of situation -where they had no idea what was inside or who – you don’t mess around. If you can’t ope a window far enough you just break it so that you can WALK in, upright, and don’t put you and everyone behind you in jeopardy as targets as you are trying to limbo into a tiny slit window opening. I really couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

There’s a whole stack of reasons why the NYPD entered *carefully* on the second floor without breaking out the window. Odds are the window only opened that far anyway (because students are stupid, and allowing them to open windows all the way has never been the policy of any univ. I’ve seen) plus there had not been any gunfire to that point. If there *had* been a student with a gun opposing them at the window, it would have ended badly for the student, and it would have rained shell casings down below. NYPD doesn’t take chances, and in that case they would have stormed the building and zip-tied anything with arms and legs, dead or alive.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to georgfelis. | May 1, 2024 at 12:09 pm

Watch the video. More than one cop almost fell off the ledge trying to get into the window. It was extremely awkward. And the rest of the cops were waiting on that platform in line – sitting ducks.

I’m telling you, it was not done correctly. There was no reason for them to do it like that. Watch the video that played on Fox News, which shows their entry directly. It’s AWFUL.

Also, it looked to me like lots of those cops were little women.

Yes, but that’s what you get when you defund the police. Actually, the preferred method of taking a building is from the top down. Insert onto the roof via helicopter and follow gravity to sweep down and out.

I’d bet a week’s pay that the terror supporters wouldn’t have thought to fortify the higher floors/doors and even if they did so what? Roofs are very easy to cut through while brick walls are not.

Imagine them scrambling to remember who had the keys to the bike locked doors when tear gas cans followed by riot cops started rolling down the stairs from the floors above trapping them in place.

But this is happening in Bragg’s county so he’s the only one relevant

Every person arrested should have their photo and name in the New York Post today. Period. Identify them. Let employees know who they are and what they are about.

This is an interesting comment on X. It comes from Tony Seruga – a tech bro with a background in data w/experience with our alphabet agencies – who has been (legally) tracking digital device data of illegal caravaners who have illegally crossed the border.

https://twitter.com/TonySeruga/status/1785322084362801531

“Remember all of those criminal illegal invaders we’ve been tracking from the caravans to our borders and into the interior of the U.S., today, over 1,000 of the same devices are present at over 21 protests and growing across America.”

How does he track these devices? He has a pinned tweet in his X profile that explains it. The tl;dr is your data is for sale and easily obtainable by anyone who wants it. How is this legal? Because when you first turned on that device – whatever it is – you approved to the service/user agreement.

I am sure those arrested, suspended and/or expelled will still demand that their student loans be forgiven.

OMG so many times, the best part about all of this; and how utterly clueless and pathetic the actual students here really are (not the professionally paid agitator/protestors). They really have no idea that they just can’t immediately go home and take their finals. No moron you denied all of the Jewish kids at your school the right to attend their classes and take finals; but you think you are better than them, don’t you? But still my favorite thing is when they demanded snacks, errr, umm, I mean “Humanitarian aid.” Do you think Joe Biden was planning to build a floating island of snack food for them, or drone drop in fruit roll ups? Possibly Turkey was going to organize an emergency flotilla to end the siege of these brave young crusaders, they must have their mineral water ASAP!!! How else can the wash down those melatonin gummies they need to sleep? Hopefully AOC will pose with them and sign autographs for them while they temporarily get arrested. And then she can organize a freedom parade for them when they are quickly released and back to screaming for the death of Jews and blocking traffic. I’m sure Gaza will name a street after all of them; and most public school districts will dedicate a week out of Black History month for teaching us about these wonderful losers, and their brave stance against the Zionist machine; only to be brought down by the lack of snack food! Oh why are the Jews in control of the snack food industry; with their blood matzah; the Unfairness of it all!
