NY AG Letitia James Sues World’s Largest Meatpacker For Supposedly Overstating Commitment to Climate “Net Zero”

NY AG Letitia James Sues World’s Largest Meatpacker For Supposedly Overstating Commitment to Climate “Net Zero”

The proof? James doesn’t believe JBS can stick to its promise of net zero emissions by 2040. Maybe, just maybe, you don’t cave to the climate change loudmouths.

Oh, God. New York Attorney General Letitia James is never going away now, is she? I cannot stand this woman.

James thinks she is a YUGE deal since she “defeated” former President Donald Trump.

Never forget that pride comes before the fall.

Now she is now suing JBS USA, the world’s largest producer of beef, because they’re exploiting families by lying about…their carbon footprint.

I kid you not. The proof? James doesn’t believe JBS can stick to its promise of net zero emissions by 2040.

It’s 16 years away. How the heck does she know? (rhetorical question)

Look at these tweets. The lack of self-awareness and awareness of the real world is something to behold.

This lady does not live on this planet.

She’s on Fantasy Planet with the rest of the weirdo progressives:

Beef production emits the most greenhouse gasses of any major food commodity, and animal agriculture accounts for 14.5 percent of annual global greenhouse gas emissions. In 2021, the JBS Group, JBS USA’s global parent company, reported total global greenhouse gas emissions of over 71 million tons, more than the total emissions of some countries. Attorney General James seeks to stop JBS USA from continuing these false and misleading marketing practices, pay disgorgement of all ill-gotten profits, and penalties.

“As families continue to face the daily impacts of the climate crisis, they are willing to spend more of their hard-earned money on products from brands that are better for the environment,” said Attorney General James. “When companies falsely advertise their commitment to sustainability, they are misleading consumers and endangering our planet. JBS USA’s greenwashing exploits the pocketbooks of everyday Americans and the promise of a healthy planet for future generations. My office will always ensure that companies do not abuse the environment and the trust of hardworking consumers for profit.”

  • 1. I do not think that all people are likely to buy environmentally friendly products. I don’t. I don’t care. Most of that crap is expensive. I don’t have money for that.
  • 2. Lying about a carbon footprint doesn’t exploit hardworking families.

Do you know what harms hardworking families? Forcing a company to limit its output.

The cost of food is high enough, so yeah, let’s limit the output, which could lead to fewer beef items. The price will likely increase because someone must pay for the litigation.

Do you know what else harms hardworking families? Kicking a company out of the state or potentially bankrupting a company. That means NO jobs.

These people do not care about the middle class. Not one bit.

The climate change/environment-obsessed people are probably vegans eating grass and bugs. Or they run their own farm, raise their own animals, and slaughter them for food. I highly doubt that, though. That takes work and effort. They wouldn’t have any time to stand on a soap box and lecture people.

I wonder if James is a vegetarian or vegan. I also wonder what kind of car she uses and how often she flies. Does she use plastic bags? How about her house?

This should also be a lesson to companies. DO NOT bend the knee to the rage mob.

James is trying to use JBS’s words against itself. The company promised to get to net zero emissions by 2040. It even acknowledged (with what proof?!) that people want to purchase environmentally friendly products!

Do. Not. Cave. To. These. People.

Thankfully, there’s no violent crime in New York and she can focus on this trivia.

Lot of politicians making promises about Net Zero that won’t happen – can we sue them for fraud?

    That’s a prosecution I can get behind.

walls in reply to PrincetonAl. | March 2, 2024 at 2:34 pm

Hey – let’s sue PoopyPants Biden, the black Shirley Temple, and Mayorkas over their constant claims that the border is secure. Works for me.

How does an AG in NY sue the subsidiary of a Brazilian company (traded on the Brazilian stock exchange) that is headquartered in Colorado? They don’t even have any locations in NY. Their closest location to the state is in Vermont. I guess there aren’t any jurisdictional issues when Democrats are engaged in vanity lawfare.

Soo…what is keeping any large conglomerate from moving? Why would anybody, other than a small, local company, be in New York?

GWB in reply to Dathurtz. | March 1, 2024 at 11:11 am

Why would even the small, local companies be there?

Dathurtz in reply to GWB. | March 1, 2024 at 2:33 pm

I get it if you have a family business. Or you know the area. For instance, it’s hard for an appraiser to just get up and move and learn a new area and have to attract clients that already have an appraiser they like/trust. Or if you have family in the area you can’t leave. I am in the location I am in because I love my church, even though I otherwise wouldn’t be in the area. Now, I’ve been here so long I am established in my career, I understand my community, I understand the demographic that I teach, my good friends are here. It would be hard for me to leave, even if the government sucked.

I’ve heard several sob stories from conservative organizations this year over their earlier decisions (usually on advice of corporation counsel) to incorporate in New York. The NRA is a big one. Also, VDARE — Tucker just did an interview with the wife/co-owner where she explains this. Letitia is after her, too, because they avoided the left’s strategy to heckler-cancel every venue they booked for conventions by buying their own guesting facility in West Virginia, and the commies are furious they cant stop VDARE from speaking to their own supporters anymore. The interview is worth watching.

Milhouse in reply to Dathurtz. | March 2, 2024 at 9:04 am

This company isn’t based in NY, but it does business there. You can’t really run a large company of any kind without doing business in NY. Especially because that’s where the stock exchange is.

Are NY businesses paying attention? Pres. Trump was right: the scourge of Letits James is now spreading. Let her turn NYC into a food and business desert. It’s what they voted for.

Stop the wokefestation.

When is a lawsuit considered frivolous? Asking for a friend.
NY is in a world of hurt.

Most states have law against ‘vexatious litigation’ although they do not generally apply to prosecutors.

thalesofmiletus | March 1, 2024 at 7:23 am

Kevin O’Leary asked, “who’s next?” Now we know.

AG James is essentially saying ‘X entity promised Y result on a particular timeline but the AG office doesn’t believe X entity has made enough progress to produce Y result on schedule’.

Given that the State of NY itself has implemented an incredibly foolish statutory requirement that 70% of its electric generation MUST come from net zero carbon emissions sources by 2030 will the AG also go after those responsible for this over promise and under delivery?

The Trump fiasco just opened a world of possibilities for this woman. See how fast Democrats get tired of her. Power corrupts and absolute…..well you know.

Martin in reply to Whitewall. | March 1, 2024 at 8:42 am

Why would they get tired of her. What she is doing is approved of by 50-80% of people in her party depending on the case. Plus she is bringing tons of revenue for the state of NY.

Whitewall in reply to Martin. | March 1, 2024 at 8:58 am

As somebody wrote somewhere, even a flatworm knows to move away from pain. The average Democrat is approaching ‘flatworm’ status.

henrybowman in reply to Martin. | March 1, 2024 at 3:45 pm

“James thinks she is a YUGE deal since she “defeated” former President Donald Trump.”
And the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre, practically in the same month.
It’s already been a multi-orgasmic year for the Left against their biggest legendary boogeymen.

healthguyfsu in reply to Martin. | March 1, 2024 at 10:25 pm

On point 1 you are correct, on point two you are lacking the whole picture.

Revenue in what? Civil penalties? The expense of these trials are massive. The amount of business that will be lost as a fall out of these loony prosecutions is going to whip around much higher than any penalties paid. Revenue means jack when you lose more than you gain.

Halcyon Daze | March 1, 2024 at 7:53 am

With any luck at all Letitia James will continue her antics until she is good and well in over her head.

I am doubtful that she selected this target on her own. So who is directing her?

UnCivilServant | March 1, 2024 at 7:56 am

It’s long past time to either throw Lelita in prison or run her out of town on a rail.

Remember the Spanish Inquisition, a legal system set up to prosecute heresy? Fun Times they were, so let’s do it again.

GWB in reply to George S. | March 1, 2024 at 11:14 am

And this is less sarcasm then you would like.
Because Progressivism actually IS a religion. And all of its “cancel culture” is a populist Inquisition. Folks like Letitia are a more official one. (The Inquisition and the French Revolution were both actually abused to destroy people expressly to gain their property.)

DaveGinOly in reply to George S. | March 1, 2024 at 11:48 pm

That’s a great idea. Remember? Yes. Expect? No.

AF_Chief_Master_Sgt | March 1, 2024 at 8:49 am

So, help me understand.

The judicial system refuses to consider ballot harvesting and illegal vote manufacturing prior to an election because there has been no harm.

But a slave master in New York can prosecute a company for a pledge to decrease emissions by 2040, sixteen years away, even though the company has not had a chance to make wholesale changes now, and there has been no harm.

And since when is a promise to reduce emissions a prosecutable offense?

Close The Fed | March 1, 2024 at 8:50 am

Hochul told NY businessmen not to worry; they weren’t anything like Trump.

Well, she didn’t figure in, that James is still James. Everywhere you are in N.Y., James is there.

I’d get so far from New York…. Let them implode. They didn’t care about the border until it hit them – not smart.

Now they won’t care about beef, until they have to do without. So be it.

What makes you think “they” will have to do without? More likely people like Hochul and James will figure out how to get the state of NY to pay for their steaks. That is, even more than it does now. If there’s a little extra expense to truck them in from Jersey, so what? The people’s rulers have to eat, right?

AF_Chief_Master_Sgt | March 1, 2024 at 8:53 am

Disgorgement. The new Reparations.

Black folk all over New York are salivating because they will believe they will somehow get their paws on some of this loot.

Steven Brizel | March 1, 2024 at 9:00 am

This is our taxpayer dollars hard at work subsidizing frivoulous lawsuits

Now that she is done with Trump, she’ll continue to abuse the authority she has. Climate change is a joke and so is she. Remove her from the position she has.

Hopefully AG Flynn will call me. We’re sampling the creaky door to the truck ramp at Westbury-sounds like something from an old horror movie.
Once processed and looped, it will be the backdrop for the guillotine executions in Times Square
We plan on auctioning the cord pull for the really big fish, which should eliminate the deficit and 10% to the little guy (me) take care of a few nagging bills
Absent setting a vivid example for tyrants, the Republic remains in dire peril.
Am I kidding? Perhaps. But I’m not communicating a threat to anyone-I’m predicting a lawful sentence for convicts of capital offenses….

There is a lesson to be learned here: never bow down to these insane woke zealots. However low your grovel, it will never be low enough. Instead, tell them to pound sand.

amatuerwrangler | March 1, 2024 at 11:09 am

So. Move for dismissal of the suit, with prejudice.

If that fails, immediately notify their outlets in the state that no further shipments will be arriving. And prepare to increase distribution to neighboring states to take advantage of the NY consumers making adjustments to their shopping patterns.

Nice idea, but have you ever heard of a company that fought back instead of cowtowing?
Way back when Florida sued Winston tobacco for the health issues, “caused” by cigarettes, I was surprised that Winston didn’t tell Florida that it would clear the shelves of its products and inform NASCAR and NHRA that it would no longer sponsor any of their events in the state of Florida

henrybowman in reply to MarkS. | March 1, 2024 at 4:01 pm

I know of few bright and shining examples.

The one most people have probably heard of is Goya. (Although they weren’t attacked directly by any government, just by their proxies.)

Firearms manufacturer Ronnie Barrett, maker of .50-cal rifles, informed the state of California that since they decided to ban his products for their citizens, he would no longer sell them to California law enforcement, nor repair any already purchased.

nordic prince | March 1, 2024 at 11:28 am

The beef industry is one of the largest contributors to climate change…

Beef production emits the most greenhouse gasses of any major food commodity, and animal agriculture accounts for 14.5 percent of annual global greenhouse gas emissions.

A whole boatload of assumptions there, not the least of which is that “greenhouse gases” are unequivocally “bad”….

Fergit ’bout beef; beans are terrible for the planet
They produce a lot of “Greenhouse Gases”
when I eat them anyway

Expect a quick summary judgement from a willing judge.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | March 1, 2024 at 1:05 pm

There is no lie bigger or more destructive than the Global Warming lie.

James should forgo meet entirely, she should try a salad now and then.

E Howard Hunt | March 1, 2024 at 1:55 pm

No straight white male would be permitted to conduct such antics.

No shipments of beef to New York, including Peter Lugar and all of the high end restaurants–they voted for this, now let them live with it

thalesofmiletus | March 1, 2024 at 7:54 pm

Where are the resident trolls? Why aren’t they defending this woman’s actions with specious reasoning per usual?
