Trump’s New York Hush Money Trial Set for March 25

Trump: “I’m here for something, it’s not a crime, it’s election interference and it’s being run by Joe Biden’s White House.”

A judge refused to dismiss the charges against former President Donald Trump regarding alleged hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016.

The trial begins on March 25 with jury selection:

Trump and his attorneys sought to have the case dismissed altogether, but Judge Merchan on Thursday denied the request.

Before entering court, Trump blasted Bragg for rising crime in New York City, and the case.

“I’m here for something, it’s not a crime, it’s election interference and it’s being run by Joe Biden’s White House,” Trump said, calling it a “terrible time for our country. A real dark period.”

He added: “This is just a way of hurting me and the election because I’m leading by a lot…If I hadn’t run, they would have been extremely happy.”

Trump said he should be out campaigning, instead of in court, ahead of the South Carolina primary on Feb. 24.

The Manhattan grand jury indicted Trump on 34 counts of falsifying business records.

DA Alvin Bragg inherited the case when he came into office in 2022 but suspended it. Then, he brought it back when Trump announced his 2024 presidential campaign.

It sure sounds like Trump might have a point about it being political.

Supposedly, Trump paid Stormy Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about an alleged affair. His former lawyer, Michael Cohen, said he set it up, paid it out of his pocket, and the Trump Organization paid him back as “legal expenses”:

Cohen paid Daniels personally, but was reimbursed by the Trump Organization under the guise of legal expenses – leading federal prosecutors to charge the money had been falsely accounted for.

Bragg’s case hinges on the allegation that the crime of falsifying business records — bookkeeping fraud — was done in the commission of another crime, a campaign finance violation, The New York Times reported in March. The Times reported the charge would amount to a “low level” felony.

If Trump is convicted of bookkeeping fraud as a felony he could face up to four years in prison.

The charge usually has a five-year statute of limitations as a felony, but those are extended when a defendant continuously lives out of state, as Trump did during his presidency, the Times reported.

The statute of limitations was also extended by more than a year in New York due to the coronavirus pandemic.

lefty suspended common sense longggggg ago..since the beginning

now america is facing that wrath as we were beaten down for the last 50+ years and the covid wars sealed the lefts victory as the burning down of the police stations and cities was the crowning moment for the left

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to destroycommunism. | February 15, 2024 at 1:19 pm

There’s a lot of territory in America the left does not control.

I suggest a national divorce due to irreconcilable differences. Let the left have the shitholes, and the rest of us can live our lives in peace, not pieces.

The shitbags and perverts can have the rest.

      Fat_Freddys_Cat in reply to AF_Chief_Master_Sgt. | February 15, 2024 at 2:10 pm

That’s the sensible solution but the Left would never accept it. The idea that there would be people living somewhere who are not under leftist authoritarian control would drive them absolutely bonkers. Our happiness would be too much for them to bear.

I was planning on moving to South Dakota, but their real estate prices are crazy, $100,000 and acre and up, even for larger parcels like 10-20 acres. Another problem is that developers are building new roads in the Black Hills, it is not clear if those roads are built to normal road standards, so buying those properities could have

There can’t be a ‘national divorce’. Not just because, as noted, that the left simply can’t countenance people NOT living under leftist dominance. But out of necessity.

The left controls nearly zero food/energy/manufacturing areas.

There are no ‘blue states’. There are only deep blue islands surrounded by oceans of red.

        AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to Azathoth. | February 16, 2024 at 11:52 am

Correct. While the left may control some ports, the red areas control the means of production. I suggest that we allow these blue nation states to exist. But they must negotiate with the red controlled areas, and that we prevent travel from blue to red. Since they should no longer be part of the United States, the nation states of New York City, Baltimore, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, et al., must seek visas to enter red areas.

The Constitution does not require the nation’s capitol/capital to be Washington DC. It only establishes a requirement of 100 sq miles. Set up the capital elsewhere.

The red areas can simply build our own airports and other needed infrastructure. They can buy food from the productive areas.

Set a certain date, and anyone who lives in a blue area must remain in a blue area.

Harsh, but our national survival depends on it.

I can’t wait for Biden to blow out his rectifier and do something insane like physically attack someone that dares question him or to blindly reveal he is NOT in control.

I wonder if Trump can get to the court in time ofr Fani Willis’s testimony.

Time for Trump to bring out “the missing” folder with the CIA et al Russian Collusion documents the Fibbies were looking for at their illegal Mar-a-Lago raid…shut these scumbags lawfare operation down.

I’m just a simple ol’ bear, shambling through the forests of life. So, here is my question:

I thought blackmail was illegal? Trump allegedly paid someone who allegedly demanded money to keep quiet about an alleged sexual crime.

Should not the alleged blackmailer be brought up on charges, if not solely, but as well as, Trump for allegedly paying the alleged hush money?

AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to The Gentle Grizzly. | February 15, 2024 at 1:23 pm

Well, she is a whore, so I guess that should be considered a payment in full.

thalesofmiletus in reply to The Gentle Grizzly. | February 15, 2024 at 1:28 pm

Why bother? She’s not running for office. Further, they might need her to testify.

E Howard Hunt in reply to The Gentle Grizzly. | February 15, 2024 at 2:23 pm

I can see this getting murky. Suppose a tabloid offers Stormy $200,000 to give a tell-all interview about Trump. She has a perfect right to engage in this transaction and she needs the money. Being a hooker with a heart of gold, she can see that this would hurt Trump and offers him the opportunity to kill the story for only $130,000. She has sacrificed $70,000 and Trump has received value for money without having been threatened. This is not blackmail.

Of course it’s not blackmail. It’s extortion: “The practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats”

Blackmail is for when you actually have something solid as evidence. The dirty secret is *everybody* who reaches a certain level of power, influence, or money has these kinds of little weasels (no offence to weasels, mind you) come crawling out of the woodwork with their hands out. That’s one reason we have lawyers, after all. Some extortionists can be threatened in return by countersuit, some are just blithering nuts and can be ignored away (Cough, Carol, cough), and some could actually do harm because they’re reasonably credible and willing to go through with the threat. The last case can normally be made to go away with an NDA and a check, normally.

    It wasn’t a crime.

What they got up to was between two consenting adults, which is probably what is triggering Democrats as they only way they seem to get sex is via rape.

If there really was a question about this being sexual predation the left would have been all over this angle years ago and we’d have heard it every night on every regime propoganda news broadcasts.

No fuzzy , President Trump should NOT be charged

Dead God

thalesofmiletus | February 15, 2024 at 1:29 pm

Again, nothing a Democrat would be on trial for.

“Cohen paid Daniels personally, but was reimbursed by the Trump Organization under the guise of legal expenses – leading federal prosecutors to charge the money had been falsely accounted for.”

That is incorrect, Trump’s lawyers said that Trump wrote personal checks to reimburse Cohen and never claimed it as a business expense, or a tax deduction..Copies of the checks show them written on the accounts of “Donald J Trump” and The Donald J Trump Revocable Trust”, not business accounts!

John Edwards.

The letter signed by 50+ former intelligence officials that cast Hunter’s laptop as “Russian disinformation” was written, and the opinions and signatures were solicited, by the Clinton campaign. These opinions and signatures were of inestimable value to the campaign. (Otherwise, why would the campaign expend the resources and time on the project?)

Were the opinions and signatures collected on the letter “unreported campaign contributions”? This is no more far-fetched than Trump’s payments to Stormy Daniels as a “campaign expense.”

The truly torturous lengths the Democrats have gone through to make this a ‘crime’ is truly insane.

And remember.

Congress has a huge slush fund specifically to pay people hush money to not press sexual harassment/assault charges against them. Funny how not a single one of THEM is getting prosecuted.

Stormy is a porn star whose actual job is to get paid for sex. If Trump and her did the nasty and he paid her so what? None of this is going to help Babbling Biden get re-elected. Everyone watching knows what is going on with this persecution

    mailman in reply to diver64. | February 16, 2024 at 5:43 am

Seems the big problem Democrats have is that it was sex between two CONSENTING adults. They don’t know what the word consenting means.

It’s a campaign finance violation to pay an extortionist?
