‘None of These Candidates’ Beats Nikki Haley in Nevada Primary

The Nevada primary is weird. It has a caucus and a primary. The primary happened yesterday without former President Donald Trump on the ballot.
The state runs the primary. The Nevada GOP runs the caucus. The Nevada GOP decided those who ran in the state primary could not participate in the caucus.
Trump, not Haley, will appear on the caucus ballot that happens on Thursday.
Residents can vote in the primary and caucus.
Anyway, you could say that Trump beat Haley in the primary because voters chose the “none of these candidates” option.
Yes. Haley lost to no one in Nevada.
The campaign did not spend money in Nevada or paid attention to the state. Haley and her team insisted the Nevada GOP rigged for Trump.
“Even Donald Trump knows that when you play penny slots the house wins,” explained Haley’s spokeswoman Olivia Perez-Cubas. “We didn’t bother to play a game rigged for Trump. We’re full steam ahead in South Carolina and beyond.”
It sounds like Haley’s team was not wrong:
Washoe County Republican Party Chair Bruce Parks, who pushed for the GOP to hold caucuses, said that he told voters who called his office — and Trump supporters — to participate in the primary by voting for “none of these candidates” over Haley.
“They basically told us they don’t care about us,” Parks said in an interview after the race was called. “By marking ‘none of these candidates,’ we respond in kind — we don’t care about you either.”
Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald, a Trump ally who faces state charges for serving as a so-called “fake elector” on the former president’s behalf, said he left it to each county GOP chairman to decide if they wanted to promote “none of these candidates.” He said Haley’s seeming disrespect of Nevada voters was “reciprocated” with the results.
Haley’s team attempted to brush off the defeat:
While her name was on the ballot, the former two-term South Carolina governor who later served as U.N. ambassador in the Trump administration ignored the Nevada primary.
Haley didn’t campaign in Nevada ahead of the primary and hasn’t been in the state since speaking in late October at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership conference.
“In terms of Nevada, we have not spent a dime nor an ounce of energy on Nevada,” Haley campaign manager Betsy Ankney told reporters on Monday. “So Nevada is not and has never been our focus.”
As the vote count continued, the former president took to his Truth Social network to take aim at Haley.
“A bad night for Nikki Haley. Losing by almost 30 points in Nevada to “None of These Candidates.” Watch, she’ll soon claim Victory!” he argued.
Next up is Haley’s home state of South Carolina.

I was think of changing my name to None of the Above and getting put on a local ballot.

Interesting factoid: This is a basic principle of the Libertarian Party, used for all internal party balloting, and is (3.6 here) and has been practically forever an official plank of its platform plans for governance outside the party.

I would not completely dismiss the possibility of the Democrats dumping Kamala Harris (who would go on to some sort of “dream” job such as a university president), and having Nikki Haley join the Biden ticket as VP nominee. It’s unlikely, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
All Haley would need to do is voice a frustration with MAGA, and then publicly declare herself to be independent.

Even if the courts do get rid of Trump, we aren’t stuck with her. GOP primary campaigns have been “suspended,” not ended, so it would come down to the delegates to the Republican National Convention to pick a candidate, and they will definitely not pick #NeverNikki.
At least I hope not, there really is no precedence for this situation (obviously), but I can’t imagine her getting the GOP nomination in this–or any–circumstance. (Maybe I am thinking wishfully. Does anyone know how a nominating convention would work if Trump is out for any reason? Being stuck with #NeverNikki makes me sick to my stomach, no way on earth will I be able to hold my nose long enough to vote for her. Trump, yes, her, no way on earth).
I’m rather puzzled by her. I like that she is enthusiastic but claiming victory in both Iowa and NH is odd since she lost both races coming in 3rd in Iowa. Nevada is strange because of the primary/caucus split and she is down 20pts in SC where she has the best chance of winning. I have no idea what she is doing now other than giving voice to the Never Trump wing of the party.
She should suspend her campaign like DeSantis and back Trump or remain silent. If something happens where Trump can not run then both of them can reenter the race at the convention.

I had never heard of Nikki Haley until she gave the establishment U.N. hell in a speech. I thought that she might be alright. I now think that she, her campaign peoples, and the Republicans (not the Dems, that’s another topic) that are bankrolling her have no business dealing in national affairs. She and they are nothing but Swamp gas and should never be trusted.
Haley admittedly did a good job at the U.N. Since that tenure, though, and, especially during her campaign, it’s been made abundantly clear that she is far more attentive to and devoted to what Dhimmi-crats and faux conservatives think and want, than the concerns of actual conservatives.
She did, but in all fairness it wouldn’t be hard to be a great UN Ambassador… all you’d have to do is tell them to STFU and get out.

The Western Journal is reporting that Trump is ahead of her in South Carolina by 37 points! If that’s the case, she will be gone shortly after that primary.
Only 37 points? She doesn’t have a chance to win, but that a good chuck of the primary electorate is voting against a de facto incumbent is not the bestest of signs for November.
Can we stop pretending that Trump doesn’t have baggage or that the media doesn’t have influence? He can probably still beat Biden though.

The primary/caucus boondoggle here in Nevada is such a fustercluck that there really is no takeaway to be found. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling you spin.
Let me try to help everyone understand just what is going on.
The state legislature passed a law to have a Presidential Preference Primary, though it is not binding on the parties. The state party, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Trump campaign decided to hold a caucus two days after the Primary in order to rig the caucus for Trump.
First, they declared that anyone who filed for the primary would be barred from the caucus, and to appear on the caucus ballot you had to pony up $45K to the state party. Everyone knows that the state party was, come hell or high water, hand over all the delegates to Trump, so most candidates last Fall didn’t bother with the state at all and signed up for the Primary in protest. Even the ones who did initially sign up for the Caucus quickly stopped bothering with the state when it became clear it was being rigged for Trump.
Then they decided to have the caucus take place at 5 P.M. on a Thursday. In previous Caucuses, they’d hold it on a Saturday to maximize participation. But they’ve made it explicitly clear that they don’t want filthy casuals to have a say, explicitly saying that if you can’t spent hours right after work at a caucus on a Thursday evening, then they don’ want you to have a say.
Outside of a single flyer send last month to (purportedly) all active registered Republicans, there was no indication that there even was a Caucus, with the state party saying that they were relying on central committee members to spread the word! Why, it’s almost as if they wanted to keep the hoi palloi out!
Everyone got the Presidential Preference Primary ballot that said it’s illegal to vote twice, which many people took that you couldn’t vote in both the Primary and the Caucus. Even many hardcore Trump supporters went ballistic over Trump not being on the ballot and blaming the “deep state” and the “Swamp”, despite Trump not being on the primary ballot was entirely due to the state party’s prohibition.
And then there is the Caucus itself. Even if you knew that there was a Caucus, you needed to go out of your way to find out when it even was. And to find out which caucus location to go to? You had to jump through multiple hoops and several websites to find out what you precinct number was and then check it against a perpetually changing list of locations.
Oh, and the locations are just now being finalized for tomorrow’s Caucus.
Oh, and the location database was showing multiple locations for the same precinct, so people didn’t know which one they had to go to.
Oh, and which location to Caucus a precinct is assigned was perpetually changing, with the latest change being done last night. this means that someone who check over the weekend might have been reassigned without their knowing and they might show up at the wrong precinct and not have time to get to the right one, assuming at this point they’d even bother.
The self-selected knowledgeable insiders have purposefully made this a fucstercluck to keep out as many people who aren’t part of the Trumpian Establishment Swamp. This is the real reason why no one was talking about the importance of Nevada as “First in the West” or third state overall to choose.
