I recently noted that the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference is convening on November 30 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is the annual meeting of climate cultists, formally titled the 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 28), and has followed event failures for many years.
Legal Insurrection readers may recall the climate cultist antics at these conferences have been a mixture of troubling and entertaining:
- At COP27, China and India were not agreeable to the ridiculous temperature goals being proposed, which is part of a proposed global pact.
- The COP26 event featured a lame dinosaur ad promotion (Don’t Choose Extinction campaign).
- COP25 ended in complete failure (or success, if you like reliable energy at reasonable prices).
However, I don’t even have to wait for opening day to predict that this conference will likely be the biggest failure yet. To begin with, our stealth Vice President is on her way, bringing her own special blend of charm and persuasive power.
Harris will join COP28 on Friday and Saturday during a two-day stretch of speeches from heads of state such as French President Emmanuel Macron, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.Harris will be the highest-ranking U.S. representative of the dozens of lawmakers and agency officials participating in the nearly two-week negotiations, which begin Thursday. President Joe Biden is not expected to travel to Dubai for the conference despite attending the last two COPs that have taken place during his presidency. .
Some on social media have taken to preparing Harris’ speech for her.
Even before opening, one panel of “experts” admitted the Earth’s climate was not warming as fast as they first asserted. And this reduction is occurring without the cuts promised in the first place.
Even though emissions of heat-trapping gases are still rising every year, they’re rising more slowly than projected from 2000 to 2015. Before the Paris deal, scientists at Climate Action Tracker and the United Nations Environment Programme were projecting about 3.5 degrees Celsius (6.3 degrees Fahrenheit) of warming over pre-industrial levels based on how much carbon dioxide countries were spewing and what they planned to do about it.That 3.5 “is totally out of the picture. It will not happen,” said NewClimate Institute scientist Niklas Hohne, who works on Climate Action Tracker. “Our number is 2.7 (4.9 degrees Fahrenheit). It could be even lower with pledges and with net zero targets.”UNEP’s Emissions Gap projected 2.5 to 2.9 degrees (4.5 to 5.2 degrees Fahrenheit). The global goal is 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit).Countries are promising and even starting on actions that should eventually reduce emissions, but those cuts haven’t materialized yet, said Climate Analytics CEO Bill Hare, also of Climate Action Tracker.
Finally, as the bureaucrats dine on gourmet food, United Nations officials will try to persuade us to give up our meat.
A lead United Nations agency overseeing food and agriculture policy is expected to issue a road map in the coming weeks which will call on the West, including America, to dramatically reduce its meat consumption. The UN’s Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) will publish its so-called global food systems’ road map during the upcoming COP28 climate summit in Dubai which will kick off on Thursday and extend nearly two weeks until mid-December. FAO’s first-of-its-kind document will recommend nations that “over-consume meat” to limit their consumption as part of a broader effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Bloomberg reported.
If hypocrisy caused global warming, we would rival the temperatures on our sister planet, Venus, at this point.
